Opening in 3,777 theaters the big budget ($125 million) remake of Clash of the Titans easily claimed number one with a $61.4 million opening and set a new Easter Weekend record breaking 2006's Scary Movie 4's record of $40.2 million. Reviews though for this have been quite bad. 31% at RottenTomatoes with only 51 good reviews, but 113 bad (http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/clash_of_the_titans_2010/).

Opening to strong numbers but a distant second was Tyler Perry's Why Did I Get Married Too? which brought in $30.1 million.

Not losing any theaters at all but actually adding five and coming in third place was How to Train Your Dragon which dropped 33.2% in business and made $29.2 million this weekend and a total of $92.3 million.

Opening in fourth place was The Last Song with $16.2 million and a $25.5 million total since opening on Wednesday.

And rounding out the top 5 is Alice in Wonderland which lost 404 theaters and dropped 53.3% in business. It made $8.2 million this weekend and has become the first film to in 2010 to reach $300 million with a $309.7 million total.

Out of the top 12 is Avatar (13th) which saw itself lose 419 theaters this weekend. It's in a total of 511 theaters and made $985,000. It's total after 16 weeks in theaters is $742,340,000 and a worldwide total of $2,686,340,000. Also out of the top 12 is Our Family Wedding (15th), Repo Men (17th), and Remember Me (19th).

Opening next weekend is only one new movie and that is Date Night (http://www.comingsoon.net/films.php?id=48066) (rated PG-13) starring Steve Carell, Tina Fey, Mark Wahlberg, James Franco, Leighton Meester, Common, Taraji Henson, Kristen Wiig, Ray Liotta, Mila Kunis, Mark Ruffalo, William Fichtner, and Olivia Munn.

I wonder if Titans' reviews would be better without the 3D criticism. At least two on the first page of RT's "top critics" factored the failed 3D heavily.

But it hasn't left our hearts. ;)

Ouch, Miley bummbed down to fourth. But what about the fans?
Where are they, under a rock some where? Same thing happened with Remember Me, suddenly the fans disappear when the actors really need them.

Good to see HTTYD is still hanging in there. Take that, Miley Cyrus!

By the way, Alice surpassed the first and third Pirates of the Caribbean movies. So, it's Johnny Depp's second highest grossing movie. Unadjusted for inflation, of course.

The Last Song cost $20 million to produce. It has grossed $25.5 million since Wednesday. So, it didn't flop. Sorry that you got excited for nothing. Remember Me, on the other hand, barely broke even. And it probably didn't once you count advertising costs.

I agree. It's a great movie that should be doing better. Like Lord Dalek tends to say, it'll probably finish with about $150 million. A far cry from Alice's $309.7 million. Studios are now gonna realize that 3D isn't always the answer. Avatar and Alice did great, but Dragon and Titans are gonna be nowhere near as successful.

Probably because having seen it in 3D, I can fail it as well. There is zero 3D, except for that crappy View Master type of 3D, that seems to be prevalent today.

All this was was a cash grab, because Avatar did so well. And maybe I would be kinder to this film, if it wasn't lame on top of being terrible 3D as well. :(

While that is very good money it made.
However I expected it to stay number 1 for a while longer due to the big fan base she has.

Probably. I mean, Roger Ebert's relatively positive review was based on a 2D screening, and something tells me he'd hate it in 3D.

Not necessarily. I went to go see HTTYD in 3-D at the only theater in 20 miles showing it and it was sold out. The real issue is the lack of multiple 3-D screens in a theater. Both HTTYD and CotT would do better if there were more screens for 3-D.

Don't forget The Runaways. Technically it's not a new film, but it expands wide next weekend.

Also, Clash of the Titans' gross so far is really more like $64,055,000, factoring in its Thursday early showings.

Clash probably did make more for its opening weekend than it would have without the 3D, but I fear it's probably damaged its longevity due to backlash from sub-par 3D. It didn't help that the movie was delayed a week for the 3D, building expectations.

Both HTTYD and CotT would do better if there were more screens for 3-D.

Dragon opened with $43.7 million even after Alice had already been out for three weeks. And, Titans opened higher than that even though it had Alice AND Dragon to compete with. Even then, Titans is getting poor word of mouth and could be affected in the coming weeks. So, even had their been room for all these movies, I don't thing Dragon and Titans would have reached $300 million like Alice. And DEFINITELY no where near the $700 million that Avatar grossed. So, the playing field has been evened and studios will realize that 3D is not always the answer.

"Take that, Miley Cyrus?"

Yeah, Hut Tub Time Machine is getting beaten down by The Last Song, in case no one has noticed, which is ironic (and sad), seeing as the movie (unsurprisingly, maybe) references Miley at one point...

Hell, my theater had The Last Song, but not HTTM. I think my theater was kinda stupid.

(Like OMG, I'm gonna see Hanna Montana in a new movie, oh wait, that not Hanna Montana, or Like OMG, i'm gonna see Edward Cullen in a new movie, wait, that's not edward,! Waaaah, I want a refund!) At least we had the dignity to not typecast William Shatner as Captain Kirk, Mark Hamil as Luke Skywalker, or Tobey McGuire as Spider-Man despite the fac that these role are what they're most famous for.
