I used to love watching Duck Tales & Darkwing Duck. :D
These two TV shows existed together as one "Universe," in the same way that Batman:TAS, Superman:TAS, Justice League, and Batman Beyond exist in the same "Universe." And, Darkwing Duck also took jabs at Batman and Superman and their relationship with each other as "deus ex machina"! :p
Am I the only person who misses these two TV shows?
Walt Disney's Duck Tales was the first daily animated cartoon show to air weekdays on the Disney Afternoon. Duck Tales debuted in 1988. The 1988 - 1989 season consisted of 65 episodes. The next season (1989 - 1990) included an additional 35 episodes, totaling 100. Duck Tales is an extremely unique and original cartoon.
Scrooge McDuck was cool. He swam in piles of money and traveled the world! :)
If you remember "Darkwing Duck," then you remember the spinoff to Duck Tales. Darkwing Duck took place in the same "Universe" as Duck Tales did, but in a different city on the opposite coast of Duck America. (Basically, Duckburg was Los Angeles, and St. Canard was New York City.) And, whereas Duck Tales was an adventure, Indiana Jones-style show, Darkwing Duck was a superhero show. In fact, Gizmo Duck -- the superhero of Duck Tales -- made regular appearances on Darkwing Duck, and Darkwing Duck and Gizmo Duck played off each other as different kinds of superheroes. (Darkwing Duck was the "Batman" and Gizmo Duck was the "Superman" of that duo.) Also, there was a two-parter where Darkwing Duck went to Duckburg and met Scrooge McDuck & Co.!
When will Duck Tales and Darkwing Duck come out on DVD? I want them on DVD bad!!!

I love this show, but I can't say that I miss it, because I still watch it every day on Toon Disney. Darkwing Duck was also a crossover, because it featured Launchpad as DW's sidekick.

I don't remember that being an actual episode.I remember there being a fanfic like that.
Although, one thing that puzzled me: they never did explain why Launchpad left Duckburg for St. Canard.
I have two theories:
1)Scrooge finally got tired of Launchpad crashing all the time and finally gave him the boot.
2)Launchpad finally got tired of Scrooge being such a cheap employer.

There were references to Duckburg in Darkwing Duck, as well as appearances by Gizmoduck (he used to always get on Darkwing's nerves, like a Superman/Batman relationship). And yes, the biggest link between the two was Launchpad McQuack, Scrooge's pilot. If memory serves, the origin of this spin-off went down like this:
In the first episode, Darkwing ran into Launchpad and Launchpad revealed he was a huge fan of his. He later showed up to help Darkwing in a customized plane he'd built (a real Batwing-type deal). From then on, Launchpad was Darkwing's trusty sidekick. If there was a Duck Tales crossover episode, I don't remember it.
One very hilarious Superman reference was Darkwing's memories of being born in a faraway planet. His parents put him on a spaceship headed for Earth before his home planet blew up. But Darkwing's father had a rival of sorts, who had made his own spaceship. He was the father of baby Negaduck (Darkwing's arch enemy). Both of Negaduck's parents greedily tried to bail out of the planet in the spaceship before baby Negaduck fought his way in, shoved them out, and took off. On the way to Earth, the two babies were bumping their spaceships into one another. I haven't seen this episode in many many years, so some of the details may be off, but that's the jist of it.
The whole series was absolute genius. I keep hoping they will make a full-length Darkwing Duck movie for theatrical release. But I'm sure I'll keep dreaming.

One of my favorites of Darkwing with a pretty good parody of Superman was the hero from another planet (and no, I can't remember the name). Darkwing hel[ed the hero return to his home planet. But instead of everyone being like a "normal" person, everyone on the planet was super powered, except for one man. And so, every hero on this planet devoted their lives to protecting the one unpowered man. This man then becomes a supervillian, in kinda of an Unbreakable sorta way.
OK, so its not much of a Superman parody. To be fair, though, at the time, I thought everyone on Krypton was superpowered, too.

LOL! That Superhero thing was hilarious! And their weakness was like if you rang a bell they would start dancing and not be able to stop until they heard a whistle. :p That's where I learned one of my favorite little life lessons. Turn a weakness into a strength.
I never heard of that DW reference in Ducktales either. Frankly I thought DW was made after Ducktales so that wasn't possible, but there were a handfull of awesome references, including with Gizmoduck.
In case you haven't guessed already I miss the hell out of those shows too! I have the themes in WAV format. I have a whole disney afternoon Winamp mp3 list on my lap top in fact. I'm just THAT bad! Hey, you'd get all nostalgic too if all the shows kids NOW grow up with are cold, stupid, and/or imported, compared to the brilliant cartoons I was priveledged to grow up with! Kids today are deprived for that fact, let alone all the screwy narrow minded moms like that Indiana lady from a recent thread.

I missed the shows before Toon Disney came around, then I got tired of them, because their on everyday, twice a day. I missed Gargoyles, and I miss it when its not on, but it comes back on everyday. Also, I think Talespin was a helluva lot better, and it was based on a someone's real life story who recently sued Disney for it. A little late if you ask me. Also did anyone notice that alot of those Disney shows episodes were based on old movies. "A Guy Named Joe" later remade into "Always" was done for Talespin.

I loved Talespin just as much (got that theme too). And I'm not that suprised some of the episode stories were based on movies from long ago. First of all they're very enjoyable. Hehehe. But secondly because Talespin was uniquely set in like a 1940s type of dealy, so I guess it just fit nicely. :)

I use to love these shows. ( And I still do.) By the way, I'd like to make A correction. DuckTales deuted in 1987, not 1988. A crossover of the two shows would rule the world! Launchpad & Gizmoduck would be the only connection to the two shows. Disney should be making A DuckTales/Darkwing Duck crossover movie instead of those stupid video sequles.

No, they should have a new one hour Gargoyles series on the air coupled with the Buzz Lightyear and Tarzan hour. Heck with all the New York love going on, make it post-Sept. 11 and have them take on new villians and of course Xanatos.

I've long been pining for DW, and mainly since we have no TD here, so I get frieds who have it in nearby towns to tape it for me. Stupid College-ville.
Besides that I have every video alternative of DW Disney made availble, All four packaged episode tapes, and the Chirstmas Goof Troop DW episode tapes.
This show was so freaking good, I mean Emmy's aside it was a great show, and Jim Cummings was the most fantastic actor and he pulled it all together with Drake/DW, Negaduck, Tuskernini etc....
If I could have gotten 5 minutes alone with Eisener a few years ago I could have gotten a DW movie made. I mean Goof Troup, yeah okay, but DW had potential to be a great serial for Disney and they ignored it. Hell I'd give them the 90 Minute script I wrote for a DW movie for free if they'd consider making it. As it is now It's sitting under a stack of Serial Killer screenplays I wrote 4 years ago, and the wicked draft I actually finally got a few people to read until Memento went and came out and ruined 3 YEARS OF MY LIFE!
Heh, back to DW. It's a great show, It needs to be revived, I need Toon Disney.
Best episode of DW EVER: Time and Punishment
DW: "For stealing an ox, the penalty is...DEATH! Coveting wives...DEATH! Stealing grain...DEATH! Tracking mud through the kitchen - hoo hoo - DEATH! Being cranky in the morning? Hmmm...DEATH!"

I belive Kenneth Mars (King Triton from The Little Mermaid) voiced Tuskernini. Anywho, Jim Cummings was clearly the star of that show, as was Terry McGovern as Launchpad, and Christine Cavanaugh (Dexter) as Gosalyn.

Scrooge never appeared in person on Darkwing. His face was seen on a billboard briefly as Gizmoduck, in the first crossover eppy, changed into mild-mannered bean counter Fenton Crackshell.
Very talented man, Cummings. He voiced D.W., Negaduck, Prof. Molearty, and Herb Muddlefoot, as well as assorted minor players.
And who could forget the JL parody, the Justice Ducks (Giz being one of the members, along with a couple of ex-villains). "I'm not a duck." "I used to be."
Something I always pondered: Megavolt created Negaduck accidentally when one of his gadgets split Darkwing into positive and negative counterparts--but how did he become his own independent villain personality? Megavolt eps were always great; esp. the time he and D.W. were forced to work together ("I know the electromagnetic spectrum like the back of my hand--WHOA! What is THAT?" [looking at back of hand]) and D.W. learns that Megavolt ("I sent him to the electric chair--TWICE.") is actually former schoolchum Elmo Sputterspark.

That's A good question. In the episode, "Negaduck", (Great episode, by the way.) Megavolt's tron splitter makes two Darkwings, Positive, and Negative. However near the end, Gosalyn, and Launchpad zap him back together. They never made it clear that the Negaduck who wares red & yellow is the same negative spawn from Darkwing Duck. Also, I don't seem to buy the premise of "The Secret Origin Of Darkwing Duck" episode, unless it's A parody of alternate universes. I seriously doubt that Drake Mallard was born from another planet ala Krypton. (or Howard The Duck when you think about it.) It's stiill A funny episode despite that. Here's another good DuckTales connection. In the episode with Goldfeather, you'll find The Beagle Boys, Flintheart Glomgold, and Magica DeSpell at the villians convention.

I use to watch Tailspin, Darkwing Duck and Duck Tails all the time. I still watch them whenever I catch them in reruns. Infact I'm watching Duck Tails right now. I would defently buy a DVD box set of any of them.

...raise your hand if you thought Mighty Ducks could have worked as a futuristic spinoff of the DT/DW universe if it wasn't for the fact they turned their planet into one bad hockey pun (Puckworld. Urge to kill...rising...)?
Ahh, well.
Anyway, yes, DT/DW were da bomb back in the day. Anyone else recall the movie 'Treasure of the lost Lamp'? I think it was an actual feature film at one time...definately an underrated film...
a shame Darkwing never got an actual movie.
Am I the only one who recalls that Darkwing had about a dozen 'origin' stories? There's the Krypton thing, and I also recall one where he went to train with Tibetan monks (or are they the same episode? I can't remember well). And yeah, Negaduck does seem to have more than one origin story-the Megavolt one and one other. Negaduck also had his own alternate future where everyone was bad (and Gosalyn was a cute little darling that wore a dress. Scaaaary.)
Anyone got a fave villain from either show? I personally have a bit of a debate between Bushroot (He had a pet Venus Fly that barks!) and Liquidator (I dig T-1000 like water dog ex-salesmen :P :p :P)
And now I'm off, but before I go...
"I am the terror that flaps in the night! I am the clueless soccer mom who sues every cable company on the planet because Jimmy gets queasy from seeing someone get a papercut!"

Yep, that was a great show - I really wish Disney would show these and make movies off of them rather than tarnishing their vault for ideas. Seriously - are they trying to say Chip and Dale aren't as famous as say Quasimodo? A person is more likely to run in to Chip and Dale than they ever would Quasi at Disney world.
While we're on the topic, what about Gummi Bears? I actually enjoyed this show for a while and would like to see a new movie on their adventures.

Man, those were the days. To this day, I still wonder why Di$ney never put the Gummie Bears on video. (Lorenzo Music will be missed though.) If they can't make movies based on their old shows (Which they should) They should at least put the five part episodes of DuckTales (Treasure Of The Golden Suns, Time is Money, Super DuckTales,) and Rescue Rangers (To The Rescue) on DVD for the time being just to generate interest. Same gose for the DuckTales theatrical movie. It may not look as lavish as the features, but it would make A nice DVD, though.

DuckTales was a great show. I still occasionaly watch DuckTales The Movie: Treasure of the Lost Lamp.
Darkwing Duck is another story. I love the show (can't you tell from my avatar?) but I haven't seen an episode in a very long time. Maybe it's time to go looking through all the old tapes I have of cartoons to see if there's an episode of DW in one of them.
Rescue Rangers was another amazing show, but same story as DW.
If any of these shows were ever released on DVD I would buy them in a second.

So, you named Duck Tale, Darkwing Duck, Gummi Bears, Chip 'n Dale's Resue Rangersm and Tale Spin....but you left one off.
The Wuzzles.
How come TD doesn't air them? And does anyone remember them?

Wuzzles? Vaguely, but yes. Same goes for Gummi Bears. So long ago.
Over on the other end of the spectrum with the more recent toons, I would watch Goof Troop occasionally, but I wasn't a fan. Quack Pack, however, was GREAT. I loved it. Another hilarious duck show.

Negaduck and Megavolt, you may have guessed, are my #1 and #2, but Steelbeak is a close third. I always wondered how he got an iron bill--I presumed it was an homage to James Bond, but it might have been interesting to see if Darkwing himself was responsible for it, hence their feud. I always liked the voice Rob Paulsen gave the character--a high nasal Brooklyn accent and a machine-gun Fran Drescher laugh. Notable Steelbeak eps include the one where D.W. and Gosalyn switch bodies, Steelbeak's reluctant partnership with a fellow evil agent who's a whackjob clean freak, and his final, briefest appearance, the resurrection of Taurus Bulba.

I get Tuskernini and Molearty confused, but Jim still rocks he would have made an excellent Tuskernini I'm sure!
Negaduck by far was my fave, he was just pure tee evil. And Evil is so cool. The whoe Tron splitter incident also bothered me, Negaduck part fo DW or Negaduck from the Negaverse?! Who knows. Both work, but I'm partial to the whole Negaverse thing. Alt-Gos and Alt-Honker/LP/Muddlefoots were a fricking riot.
Bushroot, aaaaaaahhhh, I'm not so sure, I mean he was an absolutely horrible villian. He was a fantastic sympathetic character, but grade A supervillian he was not. I like him because he was a truly sympathetic opponent to Darkwing. Megavolt was like that too, but he was crazy and just pathetic, but I still loved him.
I tell ya who I do think was a great villian, Taurus Bulba. Ohhhh man, tell me you aren't afraid of that guy. He's like the Keyser Soze of the DW universe, and THEN they went and made him a Cyborg. *shudder* His eps were great, and the Pilot ep is still one of the best, the Scenes between DW and Gos are my favorite (yeah I'm sappy)
I like Steelbeak also, cause Rob Paulsen is the man, love the voice and he had some great liners. Quackerjack (and Mr. Bananabrain!) was nuts especially with Megavolt.
Villians I could take or leave The Liquidator, That cleaning Lady whose name I don't even bother to remember, The Alien Duck bad guy from the Ep where Launchpad became King of the Universe or something. (That ep annoys me)
That's all I can think of at the moment, but I'm sure more will come to me later.
Oh, oh, oh if we're mentioning other Disney Afternoon stuff, don't forget Bonkers! That show was great, Lucky was the best, Miranda was ehhhhh, so-so.

Wuzzles did air on Toon Disney for a time last year, early in the mornings on the weekend, but it seems to have been replaced by Hello Kitty.
