This is the first time I'm doing a poll so please be kind! I was skimming the boards at Superhero Hype when I came upon an interesting topic: How much will Spider-Man gross in it's opening weekend? So - I thought I'd bring this topic over here and see what you people have to say. The selections are in the poll and feel free to explain why you choose your numbers and other comments. Will it gross more or less then what I have up there, etc...

I went with 60-65 mil, but I think that might be a bit conservative, considering how well X-Men did ($57 mil, I think) and Spider-Man is far more popular. Also, May is prime movie time, and the first weekend has been getting bigger and bigger (last year it was Mummy Returns making like $65 mil).

(I just replied to bump this back up, I'm curious to see what other people think)

I'm not sure what's going to open the same weekend, because then I would have an accurate estimate. But as a guess that only one other good movie is coming out the same weekend, I put 40-45.

I like the 60-65 mil mark and figure that's where the film will most likely be at - altho if it does better that's fine by me :D

Let's keep this thread going! The competition seems pretty light for that weekend. The only other 'big' movie opening isd the 1950's drama 'Dueces Wild' - which actually looks pretty good. There were previews for it before 'Blade 2' and it looks interesting. Spider-Man will likely take in about $65 - 70 million in the opening weekend and gross $100 by the middle of the next week. By the time SW2 comes out, I say it'll have $175 million under it's hat.

Whoa! I love Spidey as much as the next guy, but I think you guys are way over-shooting this. $45 million, with $50 as the max.

Unfortunately, I'll be out of town on (School) Spring Trip when it comes out, but I'm going to do my damnest to get a free 2 hours on Friday night so I can go see it. If anyone here lives in Gatlingburg, are there any good theaters nearby?

I would say somewere near $55 million. It could be more, seeing as Spiderman is more well known then X-men, and we saw how that made.

I think it will be big becuase everyone knows Spider-Man. Even if you don't read comics, you know Spidey from somewhere. It's the same deal with Superman or Batman. You know who these characters are almost by default. Even if you've neevr picked up a comic in your life, people still know who this character is. I think this'll be huge.

I'd say 65 million minumum. X-men made 57 million, so Spidey will make more than that for sure. He's more well known, the movie has been in the making for years and it's been getting more coverage than X-Men. Honestly, Spidey could even maybe rake in 80 million. Here's hoping.

It REALLY depends on how many screens it opens on. Harry Potter beat The Lost World for the all time box office record for opening weekend BECAUSE it opened on a RECORD breaking number of screens. The previous record holder was Mission: Impossible 2. If Spider-Man opens on a lot of screens, then it's gonna get a huge opening weekend.

Spider-Man may not open on as many screens as HP, but it'll still open on about 3500 screens, which is still a huge amount.

I have no doubt in my mind that it's going to make at leas $75 mil the first weekend, with a chance to push $90 mill.

It's safe to say that Spider-Man will open huge, although I fear the big drop offis it might have. Blade 2 fell almost 60% in it's second week, and I'd hate to see Spider-Man do the same thing. Spider-Man has the potential to reign at #1 for at least two weeks before the evil Star Wars opens on Thursday...which is anodd day.
