Given the current slate of upcoming Animated Films for 2002, which ones do you think will be nominated for next year's Oscar?
Metropolis
Escaflowne - A Girl in Gaia
Peter Pan II - Return to Neverland
Ice Age
Spirit - Stallion of the Cimarron
Lilo & Stitch
Hey Arnold! - The Movie
Powerpuff Girls - The Movie
Spirited Away
Kaena - The Prophecy
Treasure Planet
Adam Sandler's 8 Crazy Nights
The Wild Thornberrys
Jonah - A Veggie Tales Movie
My picks:
Spirited Away
Treasure Planet
Spirit - Stallion of the Cimarron
Powerpuff Girls (although I think Metropolis would probably deserve it).

Ice Age will definitely be nominated as it is CGI.
Spider-Man

Just becuase it's CGI, doesn't mean it'll get nominated. I don't think there are many CGI films coming out this year, to my knowledge. This seems to be a prodominantly (thankfully) traditional animated film year.

Oh please...we all know that no matter what, Ice Age WILL be nominated...there's no disputing it...

Ice Age will probably be nominated, but not because it is CGI. Final Fantasy didn't get nominated, and its CGI beat the pants off of all the Oscar-nominated films this year.
(Too bad they spent all their time on the graphics and only realized the day before the release that they forgot to write a plot! Ha ha ha!)

The only other CGI film is Kaena - The Prophecy and that may end up being released in 2003 so Ice Age may be the only one. While Ice Age is certainly the biggest animated film of the year so far, I would be HIGHLY surprised if it got nominated considering all the other films coming out this year. Then again, Jimmy Neutron got nominated so who knows.

Wild Thornberries Well I don't have very high hopes for the Thornberrys movie, so PPG has a shot. Unless Lilo & Stitch bombs, the evil mouse company will put all its support a comedy rather than a Japanese import it didn't deserve to get or animated action flick(Treasure Planet). So again the mouse keeps forcing the cartoons are for kids idea on the populace. What will be nominated is:
Ice Age
L & S
PPG
Spirit(I saw the trailer, and it looks like it has potential, but proabably nothing will come of it(Prove me wrong Dreamworks, prove me wrong))
Who will win? CG rules the roost, and Ice Age takes the Oscar, at least knocking out Disney for another year, and telling them that quality matters(Not that I'm saying L & S doesn't look quality, but this goes to their cheap-quels)

I heard if there are 15 contenders then they can have five nominees for Best Animated Feature Film. What are the odds of the Cowboy Bebop Movie coming out this year?
Also Nightflower, if there were 5 nominees, I bet you Final Fantasy would have been one.

Well we all know Ice Age will get nominated, I didn't even see it and I know that. Powerpuff Girls is kinda iffy for me. I think Metropolis should be nominated, but does it count if its Japanimation? I think that Spirit movie will get a nod. And just what in the flying monkeybats is this "Adam Sandler's 8 Crazy Nights". I thought I knew everything about what was up with him. Direct me to a sight.

As a big "Hey Arnold" fan, I'd love to see it nominated, but it's not going to happen. I bet that Nick doesn't even put it up for consideration. (In Nick's eyes, the "Klasky-Cuspo Machine" responsible for "The Wild Thornberrys" will beat the "evil Craig Barlett and his Cartoon Network dealing ways" any day.) I also have a question. The feature film "The End of Evangelion" will be arriving in America in July. Is that movie eligible to be nominated considering that it was released in Japan a few years ago?

I thought these movies had to be...hmm..."American Made" movies, not imports. Isn't there some sorta rule about that?

Hey dj_gir, is the owner of wormbaby.com registered here? I nominated his site to be on Toon Zone links. Just wanted you to know.

No, there's no rule stating that an animated film has to be American made. It does, however, have to be released into theatres in the US before the end of the year in order to be eligible for that year's Oscar. Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust was one of the eligible films for this past year's Oscar, but obviously, it wasn't nominated.

My picks would have to be:
Lilo and Stitch - if this film is as good as the trailers I've seen than it will be the fan favorite IMO
Ice Age - good film, full of laughs and a lot of fun
Spirit - Stallion of the Cimmarron - I didn't think this would be any good but the recent trailers have sparked my interest, could be a masterpiece
Treasure Planet - Disney will never support this film to be nominated so this is just in case Lilo and Stitch somehow bombs (something I don't see very likely to happen)
Powerpuff Girls: The Movie - If there is five noms, this one makes the cut.

Ice Age (Fox/Blue Sky)
Lilo and Stitch (Disney)
Hey Arnold: the Movie (Paramount/Nickelodeon)
Treasure Planet (Disney; screw not wanting to have two films in competition with each other! It's because of that irrational frame of mind that "Atlantis" lost its well-deserved slot to "Jimmy Neutron")
Powerpuff Girls: the Movie (Warner Bros./Cartoon Network)
Wild Thornberrys? Return to Neverland? Puh-leeze!
