In the movie, Sharpay realizes her dream and moves to New York with her pet dog Boi after being discovered by a talent scout. SHARPAY EVANS IS BACK IN THE SPOTLIGHT IN

"SHARPAY'S FABULOUS ADVENTURE,"

A DISNEY CHANNEL ORIGINAL MOVIE SLATED

FOR A 2011 PREMIERE ON DISNEY CHANNEL

-- Ashley Tisdale Stars and Executive-Produces --

The irrepressible diva Sharpay Evans, recent graduate of East High School, seizes the spotlight in "Sharpay's Fabulous Adventure," a Disney Channel Original Movie scheduled to begin production this summer for a 2011 premiere. The incomparable Ashley Tisdale will reprise the role she made so popular in the "High School Musical" TV movies and feature film. Tisdale will also serve as executive producer of the movie which was written by Robert Horn (producer of Broadway's "13" and writer/producer of "Designing Women"). Barry Rosenbush and Bill Borden (both of the "High School Musical" movies) will also serve as executive producers of the movie.

In making the announcement, Gary Marsh, president, Entertainment, and chief creative officer, Disney Channels Worldwide, said: "In 'Sharpay,' Ashley Tisdale brought to life one of the most memorable comedic characters we’ve seen in years. This movie captures the absolutely perfect next chapter in Sharpay’s life, as she tries to cultivate the humanity buried, deep, deep within her - a challenging and hilarious endeavor."

Aspiring thespian Sharpay Evans, who was once a big, fabulous fish in a small pond (a man-made pond at a resort country club that her father owns), is finally about to meet her destiny on Broadway, and luckily, theater lighting highlights her hair and skin tone beautifully. Her big break comes after a talent scout spots her performing with her dog Boi at a charity gala, and now there’s not a marquee big enough or lights bright enough to contain the glorious fame she plans on having. Sharpay and Boi head to New York, but theatre is a dog eat dog world, and nothing turns out as Sharpay expects, especially when she meets her match in a rather daunting Broadway starlet (who arrived in Midtown Manhattan as a recent winner of "So You Think You’re America’s Most Talented Performing Idol").

The Great White Way is all Sharpay's ever dreamed of, especially since she already has everything else. Life in the big city is a shock, but there's an even bigger bombshell when Sharpay finally realizes the Broadway role is really for Boi, not her. Putting her disappointment aside, she sets out to make Boi the most fabulous canine star to hit the stage, with the hope that his fame will become her fame (after all, she is his entourage and she holds the leash). Before long, Sharpay makes a new friend in a student filmmaker, Callem, who finds her to be a fascinating subject. Meanwhile, Boi finds puppy love on a Big Apple adventure of his own.

We have to call her "The Sharpay" now?

Well not everyone can be a star. Tisdale, Song and Stone are unfortunately mid-carders in the world of stardom.

Is the Disney Channel so creatively bankrupt that they have to dip into the HSM well the fourth time!? How is this any different than Nickelodeon trying to prolong Rugrats with the All Grown Up series!?

HSM4 is supposed to premiere on Disney Channel later this year, and that stars an entirely new cast since the original cast 'graduated' at HSM3's end.

When I first read this I thought, please it be an Aprils Fool joke.
Than it turns out to be true. What a shame, I was so hopeful for Ashley.
Looks like her job as an actress isn't going the way she dreamed :(

I wouldn't feel so bad for Ashley Tisdale! I mean, she's not where Lindsay Lohan (another Disney princess of recent past) is at the moment (not even able to get a decent job)!

If it is anything like HS Musical, my dad will probably make me watch it eventually, once he finds out about this. But hey, at least if it was good as HSM3 was, it might let Tisdale get out of the Disney bubble.

All that we need now is a Disney Channel version of Saved by the Bell: The New Class with Sharpay being Screech to Ms. Darbis' (didn't HSM3 state that Sharpay would stay around East High for a year to help Ms. Darbis with the drama program) Mr. Belding.

No it isn't. So far I have not found one reliable website about the movie. Each website I visited, like the one you linked to, has the same old thing and no source. It's a fake.

Before you get defensive let me let you in on something. Real press releases always have the city and state written first before anything else. Followed by the date. At the end of the press released there's always the source. Such as the name, address and most times the website. The ones written about HSM EMW have none of this.

I back you up on this. I haven't seen any new information on this movie since the announcement made earlier by Disney. In fact, Disney Channel Media Net (Disney Channel's Press Release Website) has removed the HSM4: East Meets West section from the website which means that HSM4 is no longer happening. Disney probably realized that fans would not watch this movie as none of the original characters would be in the movie.

Disney probably thought up this new Sharpay movie, and gave Tisdale the right to be an Executive Producer so she would actually do the movie.

This is all following Disney Channel's newest ways of using their actors/actresses as puppets. They've been making their DCOM'S with Disney Channel stars since 2008, so thjis would add another one to the list in 2011.

Wasn't one of the High School Musical sequels originally going have a Halloween theme? But Disney I guess, Disney realized how utterly stupid or far out (even for a musical) that premise would sound and instead, went back to the "basics".

What kind of bothers me about the Disney Channel's original movies of late is that they all have to be designed as vehicles for people who already have shows on the Disney Channel. I'm sure that the HSM franchise still makes Disney a lot of money, so they're going to squeeze that cash cow until the very last drop.

Hmmm... you right. I don't see how I missed that. It's not really a bad move though. At least some of the non-Disney cast will be better known and get bigger roles from it. Some may even find themselves on Disney channel.

Actually it would be the 3rd time. You can't count the first movie.

How is this any different than Nickelodeon trying to prolong Rugrats with the All Grown Up series!?

I'm not sure if either is/was an attempt to prolong anything but if they are/were, what's the problem?

Well you may not like it but it is their prerogative (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e46AdcReIPA). ;)

E! should know better than anyone that Lindsay is a lost cause. They may think that just because Britney the Queen of train wrecks made a somewhat comeback, anyone can. But that's not the case with Lindsay. And they may over hype her death but that doesn't mean that people who don't care will start to care. Only paparazzi and crazed fans will.

It's not a bad move, it's actually kind of smart if you think about it in a good way as they know the stars of the movie so people will watch it.

If they look back at all the movies Disney Channel has made for television, you can see that they did do alright if they are still airing them on Disney Channel. For example the Halloweentown Sega, they seem to have did alright, and to tell you the truth, the older DCOMS have more of a family name then the current ones about celebrities and making money.... nice move Disney.

PRODUCTION HAS BEGUN ON "SHARPAY'S FABULOUS ADVENTURE,"
A DISNEY CHANNEL ORIGINAL MOVIE DIRECTED BY MICHAEL LEMBECK
AND STARRING ASHLEY TISDALE

Austin Butler and Bradley Steven Perry Join the Cast

Production has begun on "Sharpay's Fabulous Adventure," a Disney Channel Original Movie directed by Emmy Award-winning director Michael Lembeck ("Tooth Fairy," "Santa Clause 2" and "Santa Clause 3."). Ashley Tisdale stars as the scene-stealing drama queen Sharpay Evans in the role she made so popular in the "High School Musical" TV movies and feature film. "Sharpay's Fabulous Adventure" is scheduled to premiere in 2011 on Disney Channel.

In addition to Tisdale, the movie stars Austin Butler ("Life Unexpected" and "Ruby and the Rockits") as confident film student Peyton Leverett and Bradley Steven Perry ("Good Luck Charlie") as a precocious young dog owner and Sharpay's nemesis, Roger Elliston the 3rd.

Rounding out the cast is Cameron Goodman ("Phineas and Ferb") as a Broadway star with Sharpay on her radar, Alec Mapa ("Ugly Betty") as Broadway show director Gill Samms, and Jack Plotnick ("The Mentalist") as the upbeat and enthusiastic scribe, Neal Roberts.

"Sharpay's Fabulous Adventure" will feature four original songs by songwriters Randy Petersen and Kevin Quinn ("I'm Gonna Shine"), Matthew Tishler and Amy Powers ("My Boy and Me" and "The Rest of My Life"), David Lawrence and Faye Greenberg ("New York's Best Kept Secret").

In the movie, a New York casting director spots aspiring thespian Sharpay Evans performing with her dog, Boi, at a charity gala and offers to arrange an audition for a new Broadway musical. Sharpay packs her bags with Boi in tow and heads to the Big Apple to fulfill her destiny on Broadway. Her father has given her one month to make it to center stage, or else she will have to return home and learn the family business. However Sharpay's dreams are turned upside down when she discovers the Broadway role is really for Boi, not her. Pushing her disappointment aside, Sharpay sets out to make Boi the most fabulous canine to hit the Great White Way.

The Emmy Award-winning "High School Musical" has reached more than 290 million viewers, in 24 languages. Its soundtrack was the #1 album of 2006 and the DVD was the year's #1 TV movie on DVD. Its sequel, "High School Musical 2," ranked as the #1 basic cable telecast of all time (18.6 million viewers) and has been seen by nearly 300 million Total Viewers in over 27 languages. The "High School Musical 2" soundtrack is triple Platinum and its DVD release was the top-selling TV property on DVD for 2007. Walt Disney Pictures debuted "High School Musical 3: Senior Year" in 2008. It grossed more than $250 million at the worldwide box office.

Tisdale will also serve as executive producer of the movie, along with Barry Rosenbush and Bill Borden (both of the "High School Musical" movies). "Sharpay's Fabulous Adventure" was written by Robert Horn (writer of Broadway's "13" and writer/producer of "Designing Women").

Disney Channel is a 24-hour kid-driven, family inclusive television network that taps into the world of kids and families through original series and movies. Currently available on basic cable in over 99 million U.S. homes and to millions of other viewers on Disney Channels around the world, Disney Channel is part of the Disney-ABC Television Group.

Mod Note: Let's avoid all-cap subject titles in the future, please.

I'll be surprised to read about how well this movie performs on TV. With Starstruck, Dadnapped, Hatching Pete, and Harriet the Spy: Blog Wars as some of the lowest-performed films on the Diz, this movie needs to step it up from the High School Musical trilogy.

Not so surprised about Harriet the Spy and Hatching Pete not doing well in the ratings, both seemed to only get made to cash in on their respective starts popularity.

While Starstruck didn't seem that interesting to me it did look it was going to be good movie and I figured it'd do well with the current Disney Audience. Dadnapped, I really liked it, but the movie seemed to tame at times, I felt it had an excellent cast, but there was just something lacking from it.

I'll be interested to see has this new Sharpay movie turns out, Sharpy was a great character, but it always seemed like the creative team behind the High School Musical trilogy kept hitting the reset button erasing any character development she had during the previous movie and I wonder how she'll be on her own especially without Ryan(who was actually my favorite character in the HSM trilogy) around.

I get the feeling that Sharpay will be the spoiled, rich wanna-be celebrity we remember from the trilogy only for her to realize that it doesn't hurt to help someone in need and become a good person. Wait, you're right about this being repeated throughout all of the High School Musical films.
