I'm surprised. That game to my knowledge barely sold over 250,000 copies. Still, it's nice to see them give it another chance.

Yea I read that on IGN this morning. I was a little surprised not just because it didn't sell amazing but because it didn't also get great reviews either. Still I'd rather have more games like this on the Wii than the massive amounts of shovelware that seem to come out for the system.

Well I didn't care much for the original game but if High Voltage can pull a "Red Steel 2" improvement. for the Conduit then I'm all for it.

I'll be the first to admit that, while it had some faults, overall I liked the Conduit. Because my Wii doesn't currently have an internet connection (limiting me to the singleplayer mode), I rented it instead of buying it, but I don't regret doing it. So, this comes as a great and pleasant surprise to me, because I had thought that the somewhat disapointing sales would have made a sequel out of the question. What's more, they seem to be comitted to fixing all things they got wrong in the first game, and improving and expanding what they got right.

Since I felt that the gameplay was actually pretty solid in Conduit 1, I'm glad to see that they are going all out to making it spectacular instead of just good. Improved AI, interactive enviroments, and boss battles all sound like great additions. I especially like that all the original weapons are coming back, as they were probably the best part of the entire game. What's more, the new weapons and customizeable armor could really make the sequel even more diverse - the ones they revealed in the Nintendo Power article sound specially cool.

Also, while the graphic style of the first game was somewhat generic, it was highly detailed and incredible for the Wii. Besides, I think the real problem was what they highlighted in the article - the setting. Since almost the entire game took place in a real city, there wasn't much they could do to make the enviroments more interesting. The sequel, on the other hand, is taking place all across the globe and features several fictional locations, so hopefully that problem will be rectified.

One more thing I ought to mention is that it looks like the new campaign will start off with a much bigger bang. The original game didn't really pick up until around the fourth level or so (when the aliens were introduced) - until then you were just fighting generic human mooks. Having the sequel's first level begin on an oil derrick in the middle of a strom and ending with a boss fight against a sea monster sounds a lot more interesting, not to mention cool. Also, while I liked the storyline in the first game to some extent, I'm glad to see it's going to be a lot more epic in scope - and yet I kind of hope it keeps a focus on in-game conversations. I really wouldn't want it to devolve into a cutscene fest, much like the Halo series has increasingly become with each new installment.

Anyway, looking foward to this, and if I get my Wii's internet working again by the time the game comes out, I may just have to purchase it this time. :)

I was a little surprised not just because it didn't sell amazing but because it didn't also get great reviews either.

Actually, considering High Voltage Software's previous track record, the scores Conduit got were pretty decent. Many sites gave it at least a 7/10, and IGN's main review gave it 8.6/10. The only sites I can remember who gave it lower than that were Gamespot and Giant Bomb - but keep in mind that the former has a record of giving games lower scores than average (it gave Metroid Prime 3 an EIGHT POINT FIVE!), and the latter is run by a guy who has openly expressed his bias against the Wii. :p

Huh... A sequel to a decent rental-only FPS? Interesting. Didn't think it would happen. When I played it, it just SCREAMED "One game only."

Yeah... about that...

The multiplayer is love it or hate it. This isn't just what I've heard, it's from personal experience.

When it works, it works good, save for some lag here and there. However, I've had some issues trying to connect to the servers, and a couple of times (Not very often, but it's happened), I joined in the middle of a game and I was stuck into a wall. At one point, a hacker joined in late in the game. How do I know? Because he was invincible to everything. Grenades, bullets, you name it.

Not that I should stop you from playing the multiplayer.

Well, they said in the Nintendo Power interview that multiplayer would also be improved, especially in the area of eliminating cheaters. Hopefully they will be able to learn from their mistakes in this area as well - they seem to be comitted to fixing the problems of Conduit 1, at least, and I wish them success. :)

Still, it's nice to see them give it another chance. Is 250,000 copies really that bad?, i mean, Demon's Souls sold pretty much that amount and thats considered a success by the publisher who brought it to the states, hell, even Sony came out and was like "we shouldn't have let them publish that and published it ourselves" (they thought it would bomb).

Added, to points made
The fact that it's on a Nintendo Console and DIDN'T have Local Multiplayer?
Did hurt it.

So, in the 7 months since this topic was created, IGN has released both a full trailer for Conduit 2 and several gameplay videos for Conduit 2. I've got to say, it looks like the game is really shaping up to be an awesome sequel to an already serviceable shooter. It's nice that the Wii is finally getting a Co-op FPS, and now even those without internet will be able to enjoy the game with friends.

But it gets better: High Voltage Software has gotten permission from Nintendo to implement a patching system, which means that the hacking issue will now never be nearly as much of an issue. Between this and Goldeneye, it looks like the Wii finally is starting to get some quality online shooter multiplayer. :)

One other note: in the IGN gameplay videos, it initially looks like the enemy Ai has horrible aim. In reality, HVS merely activated an invincibility mode so that Craig Harris could film a continuous gameplay feed. So, expect the game to be much harder than it appears to be in the footage. ;)

It's generally set to the easy difficulty to show off stuff.

Seriously? Wow my mind just exploded. Considering how well the first one did I'm surprised a sequel is happening...let's just hope this time it does better (and that I can actually play it this time :p)
