Note that "Shrek" actually won for "best animated feature" (vs. a Disney movie). Though wonder why they didn't nominate "Final Fantasy"/"Waking Life" or somesuch instead of "Jimmy Neutron" (besides the Academy probably having the "animation is for kids" mentality....).
Pixar did take home the best animated short subject prize for "For the Birds"...
Also in animation, the "in remembrance to" eulogy segment, we saw flashes of images of Chuck Jones and William Hanna (for Jones, they played snippets of "Duck Amuck" and a Roadrunner cartoon, IIRC, and for Hanna, snippet of Scooby Doo (him laughing from the title scene of the original show) and the Flintstones). Later on, in some other montage segment, we saw a snippet of a Pepe LePew cartoon as well...
Other than that, the usual award show clutter (bad dresses, excessively long ceremony [guess they figure "we're out on the west coast, so we can take all night if we want"...], dubious award decisions, etc.).
