This is the talkback thread for Robert Culp 1930 - 2010 (http://www.toonzone.net/news/articles/33051/robert-culp-1930---2010).

No love yet for the late, great Robert Culp?

I first encountered him as a teenager in The Greatest American Hero, and I remember that I liked disliking him because he was playing Bill Maxwell as an abrasive, not terribly likable guy that you liked anyway. It was only afterwards that I discovered his work on I Spy with Bill Cosby, which I also enjoyed watching a lot in syndication. I really should get those shows on DVD and see how well they hold up.

He was one of those actors who I'd see in things and think, "Cool! Robert Culp!" and I'm sad that I won't get to have any newer moments with him any more. Mark Evanier also has some awfully nice things to say about him (http://www.newsfromme.com/archives/2010_03_24.html#018700).

R.I.P. Robert Culp. You will be missed.

I'll remember him as Debra Barone's father (kinda weird how several people from Everybody Loves Raymond are deceased now), Dr. Breen (from Half-Life 2), and that guy from the "Guilty Conscience" music video.

I just heard about this.

I had the honor of meeting Mr. Culp in person for the first (and now, last) time at the NYC Comic Con in February 09. We talked for a few minutes about the Greatest American Hero, and he joked about how his character was the "real heart" of the show. I told him that his character was definitely the most interesting, and the most entertaining -- despite the fact that most youngsters watched it for the super-hero aspect.

He is irreplacable. Period.

Anyone remember reruns of I Spy? Robert Culp and Bill Cosby were inseparable as a TV duo. I also remember Culp appearing on The Cosby Show as well as on NBC's 75th Anniversary Special when Bill Cosby, joined by the cast of The Cosby Show, asked Robert Culp to join him on stage, and he did. I wonder how Bill Cosby is dealing with Robert Culp's passing? For Robert Culp, rest in peace and thanks for the memories. For Bill Cosby, all we can ask of him is to be strong- his I Spy co-star is now in a better place.

I've only ever caught the occasional reruns of I Spy, but Mr. Culp was great in The Greatest American Hero. He and his wife Frances Nuyen (sp?) were scheduled to host the 2nd episode of the infamous comedy show Turn-On (1969), but of course the show never aired.

A fine talent. He will be missed.
