"Ending months of speculation and wild goose internet rumors, Nick Stahl (IN THE BEDROOM) has been cast as John Conner in T3: RISE OF THE MACHINES. He steps into the role after T2’s John Conner, Edward Furlong, could not reprise the mantle because of personal problems.
The casting rounds out the film’s cast which includes Arnold Schwarzenegger as… well, I don’t have to tell you… and Kristanna Loken as the new villain, TX.
Jonathan Marstow (U-571) will direct."

Shane West (A Walk to Remember) was highly rumored as of last week to be the front runner for the role. Guess not now. It makes me wonder what Furlong's personal problems are. In not really reporting but more of making a statement, one of IGN's reporter's had said that possibly a reason that Furlong would not be coming back is because he's not exactly the good looking type of actor that they want Connor to be. He had let himself go and has become somewhat ugly. I find that hard to believe myself. I know Arnold would have wanted Furlong in T3 if he could do it. After all, they both reprised their roles for that T2 ride there at Universal Studios.
Regarding the still highly rumored Vin Diesel participation in T3, IGN had this to say... (note: this report was posted before being known that Nick Stahl had been cast.)
"With the recent casting of actress Kristanna Loken as the film's T/X female Terminator, the Connor part appears to be the only major role still uncast. But there's another casting rumor we keep hearing that begs to be reported. Take this with a grain of salt, but a source of ours remains convinced that Vin Diesel is still involved with this Terminator 3. He would play the same character that he's been rumored to play in the past, another Terminator that would fight alongside Arnold. It's also important to note that The Hollywood Reporter has Diesel listed on the Terminator 3 listing. And the information in those listings is typically submitted directly by the productions. With the film getting set to start shooting in Los Angeles over the next several weeks, the truth is bound to come out soon."

This little quote comes from IGN regarding Claire Forlani's possible role in T3...
"Widespread reports indicate that actress Claire Forlani (Mallrats, Meet Joe Black, Mystery Men) revealed during a recent appearance on MTV Europe that she's already landed a role in the film. One scooper writes in to Coming Soon, "Claire Forlani...talked about her next movie. She said it might be with Arnie and she's playing a med student called Kate. She said its a futuristic movie and its big!"
Special effects wizard Stan Winston is also back bringing to life the robotic Terminators.
