I understand it was a re-imagining, but still, the movie was really bad. Good make-up does not a good movie make.

POTA worked all the way thru for me, including the ending. The ending was perfect for the way the movie was set up for it. I really hope Burton gets to do his sequel.

The title of this thread fooled me. I thought it would be about the Oscars.
Having not seen anything mentioned here, I won't comment.

Burton has gone on record saying he WILL NOT do the sequel. I have no problem either with POTA. It's another vision, not a remake.
And Charlton Heston was a Supporting Actor in POTA?? Did they see the right movie?? I have no doubt about Freddy Got Fingered being terrible, but calling Estella and Charlton supporting actors?? They did not see this movie.

Why won't he do a sequel? Geez, if Fox gives it to some loser director....(has flashbacks of Batman and Robin and has a siezure)

I think I also heard that Tim Burton doesn't want to do a sequel, but Mark Wahlberg is contractually obligated to come back for one. It could be a big moneymaker if they go ahead with it, even without Burton. But I don't know how good it would be. I personally thought Burton's remake was OK, very entertaining. Tim Roth was amazing as Thade. I never saw the original though, so I have nothing to compare it to.
Maybe we should break this off into a Planet of the Apes thread. ;)

Burton said "I would rather jump out of an airplane, then do a sequel".
Remember that Burton's only sequel was Batman Returns. Obviously, it was very difficult to make a movie that can live up to the original. Burton saw what happened to Batman when he made a sequel so therefore if someone makes a sequel to POTA, he has nothing to do with it.
Besides, the original POTA had sequels so of course the 2001 version will.
