At 6:58 pm Pacific time, the world of animation got a big boost when Shrek won the Oscar for Best Animated feature, beating out Moster Inc. and Jimmy Neutron, Boy Genius. The first award of it's kind.
Shrek is the kind of animated movie that is deserving of an award of such magitude.
(Stands up and applauds)
Congrats to Dreamworks, the writers, animators, directors, Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, Cameron Diaz, John Lithgow (and everyone else who was involved) for their hard work on making such an award

Shrek was definitely the best of the ones nominated...I wouldn't go so far as to say it was that great, It was okay, I like it a lot better than some of the movies I take my little sister to.

I'm glad that Shreck won, now only question is will the academy include hand drawn animation, or only CGI?

They are supposed to be able to include any kind of animation.
Whether they will choose to do that in the future is another question.
Seriously, sarcasm aside, I think that the traditionally-animated Spirit should be a nominee for next year. It looks like it deserves to at least make it that far. Much moreso than Jimmy Neutron. Lilo & Stitch might be a contender too.

No big surprise there. Shrek had no real competition other than Monster Inc.
I like both those movies and I'm glad that Shrek got it. It's nice to see a studio other than disney being recognize.
But if the academy were really serious, Final Fantasy: the spirit within should have been at least nominated. Story wise it's not so good, but animation wise it blew everything away and I think that should have been recognize for the amazing work that the animators did.

Yeah, Shrek was very good, I'm glad it won the Oscar! Although I DID like Monsters Inc.
A sure enough contender for next year's Oscar is Ice Age.

Good Question why wasn't Final Fantasy nominated. The animation is miles ahead of Jimmy Neutron (one of the worst movies I've ever seen).
Although I'm glad Shrek won,its the type of movie kids and adults can both enjoy.

I`m insulted that Jimmy Neutron was even considered at all....

It should have been. Heck animation wise, it could have beaten Shrek, but it also got major beef (Squaresoft lost $80 million on the movie, but they made it back from Sony's investment.)
I look for Lilo & Stitch vs Ice Age for next year.

I thought Monsters Inc. was great, and wouldn't have been at all surprised if it had won instead of Shrek. Either way, this is great for animation in general. Now that I think about it, I'm quite surprised FF didn't even get nominated. Animation wise, it was the best, even though storywise it was about the worse.

Well, Shreck didn't have much competition anyway since Di$ney spent the entire year making cheapquels. ;(

The reason other companies like DreamWorks and Fox are able to compete is because of producers and animators who learned the ropes at Disney.

See, you can't hand out Best Picture awards for movies that, storywise, "weren't so good". You give it a special effects Oscar for that. But to be recognized as the best, a film should be the best in all aspects.

In his Oscar picks, Ebert had this to say about Shrek: "'Shrek' will win. In fact, if this new animated category hadn't been introduced this year, it had an even-money chance of being nominated as best film. It was that admired and liked."

I'm just grateful the Academy finally decided to include a Best Animated Film category. I was still rooting for Monster's Inc. all the way though. Just wish Atlantis could've been nominated somewhere in there.

I wish Monser INC won. I liked Shrek and own the DVD but the Disney fan in inside of me wanted Monster INC to win since Disney baiscally started Feature Film Animation. Yes, I know that Monster is a Pixar not a Disney one but it was produced by Disney.
