Naruto #488+: "The Line is Drawn! Clash, Converging Strings of Fate!!" (Spoilers)

Well, it's that time of the year again: time for a new thread for Naruto (One Piece is due for a new thread quite soon, too). With only Killer Bee of the Eight-Tails and Uzumaki Naruto of the Nine-Tails yet to have lost their biju to Uchiha Madara's forces a Fourth Great Shinobi War has been declared by Madara upon the five great nations. Banding together, Raikage Killer A will lead this united army. With Danzô recently deceased after a duel with Uchiha Sasuke, Hatake Kakashi is poised to become the new Hokage..

Meanwhile, Naruto has drawn his mark and made his challenge to Sasuke. If Sasuke attacks, Naruto will face him head on. The only outcome with be Sasuke's return or both of their deaths?! Taking on his brother Itachi's eyes, Sasuke will attack Naruto with his fullest power, to steamroll over him into Konoha...but the Sage Naruto is not to be triffled with.

If there's one villain I don't really care to see it's Kabuto. I usually like villains that're cocky (anyone that talks down to Naruto gets a plus in my book), but Kabuto just rubs me the wrong way. While I do agree with you, I can certainly see how Paul would come to that though. The info that Kabuto gave to Konoha didn't have anything on Tobi/Madara. I'm not one to think/try to think that far ahead (Heck, speculating's not my thing at all. I hate speculations) but I can see where he's going with that.

I have noticed in fiction there are two types of Xanatos Masters.

There is the Thrawn: A leader who, though maybe evil, does not waste the lives of those under him. He will execute someone who is completely incompetent.

But if someone fails at something, yet tries to their best to complete their mission. He would more than likely either spare their life. Or also promote that person in rank.

This type of leader is known to create productive, positive changes to their organization, even if they are killed.

Madara and Danzo are this type of Xantos Master.

Then there is the Palpatine type Xantos Master.

The Palpatine type throw lives away without a second thought. Is very evil, without question.

To leadership, they take the "you have failed me, now die" approach. They are very wasteful and that is ultimately their undoing.

Good examples of this type are Orchimaru and Aizen (from Bleach).

I can see Orochimaru like that, sort of. (No doubt he's evil) However, I don't recall anything about the "you fail you die" thing from him. To me he always came off as the type who don't care whether his underlings live or die. That's still throwaway, but I don't think it's for the "you fail, you die" approach.

This week's chapter seems pretty full. Spoiler summary below:




The lords of each country formally agree to the ninja alliance.
Team 7 returns to Sakura's group. Kakashi tells Sakura that she owes them an apology. There's some comedic arguing between Naruto + Kiba and Sai when the others wake up.
Carried by Kakashi, Karin watches this and sees that Naruto's chakra is "cheerful and warm" and completely unlike Sasuke. All well and good but hands off, thou Harlot!
Some root members show up wanting to know what happened. Noting the loss of their cursed seals, Sai announces that Danzo is dead and refers to Kakashi as their future Hokage.
Back in Konoha, on a more serious note several of the rookies challenge Naruto on how he dealt with Sasuke: Shikamaru, Kiba, Neji, and Tenten. However, it ends with Naruto saying that Sasuke is his responsibility and that the others shouldn't fight with him.
The village elders seem ready to appoint Kakashi as the new Hokage. However, it is revealed via Shizune that Tsunade has woken up. Hooray! But this could be potentially awkward.
The chapter ends with Sasuke having already had Itachi's eyes transplanted. Bandages are over his eyes. Madara tells him to rest and that it'll take time to adjust. With a grin, Sasuke says that he's already feeling stronger.....

For good measure, a rough translation of the rookie argument:

2. Kakashi's coronation is unceremoniously interrupted by Tsunade's return! And I doubt after Pein and Danzo's 14 day reign she'll be willing to part with the title of Hokage.

3. Naruto has made Sasuke's plotpoint his own. As much as I...loathe this whole bromance angle, I do appreciate that Naruto is not willing to drag anyone else down with him.

4. A nip and tuck and now Sasuke's lost what was left of his humanity...

Oh wow, having read the chapter...it was great. You could really tell Kishimoto was having a lot of fun with the art and I think with those shots of Naruto being a bit more 'Part I-ish'. Wise sage man, I tell yuhs, wise sage. Troubled, but also at peace. This is a fusion of both sides of his character. Damn, I feel pumped now.

The ten-tails hasn't even been formed yet. Madara has to collect all the Biju before he can reform the ten-tails. It would have to be one of the lower tails that was given to Susuke. The "darkness" in Susuke's heart that Karin senses is likely just a reflection of Susukes current personality. She senses the opposite type of personality in Naruto's chakra.

On the other hand, as we saw with Garra, a biju can warp the personality of its host so that could be why Sasuke seems to have gotten much more extreme. Back when he was with Orochimaru he wouldn't kill if he didn't have to and now he seems to have abandon any notion of mercy. Also, when the host uses their biju's chakra there is a noticeable chance in the type of chakra the host is giving off. Its quite possible Karin was observing Sasuke using his biju's chakra without realising what was happening.

An ironic in-joke, it was, however that's shônen for you. I'm not entirely sure Tsunade will want to retire, but bringing on a second Hokage can't be entirely impossible.


Now I have to wonder if Shino will continue to complain about not being included, similarly I have to wonder how Sai and the other Foundation members will feel about being free now. Party time?

This was a good chapter. I still want Kakashi to be Hokage even if Tsunade is still alive. It's good that she's well and alive but I want Kakashi to be Hokage. I lol'd at the jokes Sai and Kiba pulled cause it was true. I hate when the rookies complain about Naruto when he's right.

With Sasuke taking Itachi's eyes (gross), and Itachi's "gift" to Naruto not showing up yet, I'm thinking it was in case Sasuke did go ahead with the eye replacement..(as in it will activate when Naruto see's Itachi's eyes being used by Sasuke).. bet we'll finally find out what Itachi did to Naruto when they actually fight next. (Not holding my breath for it to be anytime soon.)

Hmm... This chapter is like last week for me. Not bad, but not good either. (As I've stated before, the slowdown moments generally tend to bore me) I am curious about a couple of things though. But the main one is with Kakashi hearing about the elders and Danzo, will he take any form of action, or rather, what form of action will he take?

Another thing I found interesting was the talk between the rookies. People questioning Naruto and stuff. (People feeling the same way I'm feeling about this stuff) I'm still not convinced that he's not defending Sasuke. Although, the one I think that should've kept their mouth shut was Sakura. "Madara was there too. You're oversimplifying things"... Uh no _____ (insert derogatory word), you nullified whatever chances of killing Sasuke (while Madara was away) by putting the rest of your team to sleep. (Oh but she just so happened to leave that part out)

I do believe Naruto is giving himself little credit (I can't believe I'm sticking up for this guy), and I'm agreeing with Neji and Kiba here. Sasuke being so weakened from both battles I do believe that Naruto would've definately came out on top, hell I don't think that fight would've lasted long at all either, but whatever.

He would likely implant Sasuke with a tailed beast that fit Sasuke the best in power. Even though Sasuke leans to lightening chakra, he uses fire in a lot of his abilities.

So the likely tailed beasts would either be the Two-Tailed Cat (http://naruto.wikia.com/wiki/Two-Tailed_Monster_Cat) or the Four-Tailed Monkey (http://naruto.wikia.com/wiki/Four-Tailed_Monkey).

On a side note, if Madara is going to start making Jinchurikki. If Madara was every able to warped and control the minds of people, he is a master of every other type of mind screw ability in the series. So why not. If it took control of the rookie ninja of the leaf, a number of them could easily be paired with a number of the tailed beast to amplify their potential and skills even further.

Wow, Naruto claims that he can't beat Sasuke at Sasuke's current skill level, in my eyes I would call that a bit suprising as I would figure that Naruto would believe that he could take Sasuke one on one by now. Damn, just as they were about to appoint Kakashi as the new Hokage Lady Tsunade wakes up, that sucks for Kakashi because she will probably re-enter into her role as the village Hokage, I felt Kakashi was the perfect candidate too and even he felt he was ready for the position.

The Kages rules over the ninja villages. The Feudal Lords rules over the land where the villages are located. Also according to Kakashi in chapter 9, the Kages don't answer to the the feudal lords instead they are equals.

Yeah, the Hidden Villages a pretty much akin to private militaries that are supported by the daimyo of each nation. The reason the Sand Village decided to join with Orochimaru was because the Wind Daimyo was downplaying their support to the Sand.

You'll notice the Land of Water's daimyo was not quick to approve the alliance, probably because of how Madara had controlled the Fourth Mizukage and was therefore fearful that the village would gain too much power again.


As for Naruto's friends, I think they don't quite understand what it is Naruto knows from his clash with Sasuke. It's easy for them to sit around and pretend like they know the whole deal, but Naruto's job is a bit more complicated than they realize. Even Sakura had poisoned Sasuke he'd have kept coming back, even if Sasuke and Naruto kept fighting at that place he'd have kept coming back, and that ten-tails...image within him probably would have continued to fuel him. Naruto will likely spend some time meditating on his plans, right aft'a some ramen and Hokage-huggin'.

I think you should at least try reading without seeing the negatives of the show and more like the good elements. That way you will have a better enjoyment of the manga.

Such as? (And please don't say Naruto's growth) If I recall, I once stated that I didn't find many good elements to this series. (Not trying to rain on fans parade of the series either) Some may ask why am I even bothering doing this... I'm just trying a little something, and also trying to piece everything together.

People are so into over analyzing Naruto that they sometimes forget what it's like to sit back and enjoy reading the manga, I became that way back before the Pain saga and I caught myself and made myself snap out of it because I found that the more I over over analyzed things the less and less I was enjoying myself. There is no such thing as perfect writing and sometimes things are going to pop up into the story that either don't make sense or that you don't agree with (Star Wars anyone?), people just have to learn to let it roll off of their shoulders and just read the story. Afterall. if the mistakes in the plotlines or the core story itself is so bad then why continue to read?

So you don't read Naruto for the story or to see the progression of the main cast (heroes), but instead you read it because you like the villains and the battles? Interesting, odd but interesting. Well, whatever your reason for reading it at least your a fan, lot's of people enjoy something from a different aspect than others may so thats cool, I have just never heard anyone put it that way before.

They never fully gave recognition to Kakashi as Hokage yet though, it was interupted due to Tsunade's awakening but I'm sure they will straigten out this mess over the next chapter or two. I hope Kakashi get's the position, he definitly deserves it.

But all he really did was try to hijack the Kage summit and die in a fight with Sasuke. It was a cheap bit of drama that went nowhere really and I'd be suprised if Kakashi actually gets a promotion either.

A little update since I recently finished with the Naruto vs Orochimaru fight. I'll talk about the Sakura and Chiyo vs Sasori fight first since I read and saw this last night. When I was watching it, I found myself being split on it because of Naruto's rashness (again) and then there were a lot of things that just wasn't needed. Anyway, that 10 vs 100 puppet fight was really good, and it's too bad that that was Sakura's only shining moment because when I first read through this arc, I thought she was actually going to be decent and thought that she redeemed herself from the crap I had to put up with in part 1.

Now for this fight between Naruto and Orochimaru. While it wasn't as nearly as bad as it was when I first read it.. Well, let me put it in another way. The fight itself was good, but I still found myself rolling my eyes at Naruto when he said "Give Sasuke back" (I know I'm probably getting on everyones nerves with Naruto's rashness and Sasuke's obsession now, but whatever), but I think because I've gotten so used to it that it didn't affect me as much as the first time around. (That was the moment that initially caused me to drop the series the first time)

And thinking about it now, after seeing Sasori fight I think I would've liked to have seen a fight between Sasori and Orochimaru at that bridge instead of Naruto, but that's just me.

I forgot about Yamato again and forgot how good a character he is. So that's Kakashi and Yamato that I can actually look forward to seeing out of the heroes. His faces are freaky.

I agree, but I'm glad he didn't go down that road. If handled wrong it would have just delayed everything even further, with each chapter having Danzo say, "ALL ACCORDING TO PLAN."

I don't know why but I decided to read some spoilers online anyway and I noticed that there is a chance of Tsunade jumping right back into her role as Hokage, this makes me a little upset because I really feel like Kakashi deserves the title for everything he has done for the village.

IIRC, when Orochimaru used this technique the Third tried to take out the Zombie First and Second with explosive tags, and they regenerated. So this bunch is going to be tough to kill (again). But one of Naruto's Rasenshuriken essentially vaporized one of Pain's bodies, so he might have the best chance of taking the dirt zombies down.

I wonder if Madara's going to implant some of his sharingan collection in Kabuto's new toys.

In these last few chapters, I have gained a new respect for Madara. Not many Big Bad Villains care enough to warn their servants of danger and plan ahead ways to keep their servants alive. And also bring back their servants from the dead.

What if this whole "Moon Eye" plan Madara is doing is not so much meglomania, but a way of attonment for him. For Madara to undo all the horrible mistakes he has made through his life.

It occured to me, Pain basically sacrificed himself to resurrect those of the Leaf Village, to undo some of the evil he had done.

Pain was a good guy when he died. If he is still himself, he is smart, which he is, and keeps his mouth shut about now being a good guy. He might later betray the Akatsuki at a future date.

I wonder if Kabuto has the guts to resurrect Jiraiya, Asuma, and Nawaki to screw with Naruto, Shikamaru and Tsunade's heads.

I realize it was expected for this jutsu to be used again, but it is kind of obnoxious. His technique is pretty powerful when used correctly, someone just needs to be there to make sure that he isn't an idiot like last time. I also suspect that this means Konan will be resurfacing sometime soon, she is just too powerful to be at the sidelines right now. If she doesn't get in a decent fight I will be pretty upset.

And...well, yeah. Interesting chapter, somewhat annoying yet awesome at the same time. I can't wait for Killer Bee to train Naruto and I also can't wait to see what Kisame can really do.

Oh my god! I just realized something. The frog key mentioned "that jutsu" again! The same "that jutsu" that Jiraiya mentioned at the beginning of Part II. If Naruto meets Killer Bee in the near future, then he can learn how to control the Kyuubi. Control over the Kyuubi gives Naruto the ability to finish "that jutsu," and "that jutsu" will give Naruto the ability to defeat Sasuke and Madara.

I am calling it now. "That jutsu" will be perfected with the help of Killer Bee and will be used to defeat Sasuke and/or Madara.

I just finished reading the current issue of Green Lantern. Now I'm convinced that either Naruto Shippuden's ripping off GL or Green Lantern's ripping off NS.

This is what I actually think happened. Orochimaru was planning to resurrect the First, Second, and Fourth Hokages. When the third coffin first appears, it was trying to put the Fourth's soul into the body within. However, souls sealed by the Reaper Death Seal cannot be returned. This is when the coffin realizes that it cannot bring the Fourth and disappears. Orochimaru did not know the details of the Fourth's dead so he was shocked by the failure of the third summon. The Third had no idea was going on so his shock was of lack of knowledge of the resurrection.

Yes, it was. The Third explained the Reaper Death Seal to Orochimaru as he sealed the two Hokages and working on sealing Orochimaru. Orochimaru is shocked when he learns that it was the jutsu that sealed the Kyuubi.

Going by the anime, dont know if it was different in the manga but he did stop the third summon using some jutsu, he says "I have to stop the third no matter what!" Then does the hand signs and the third coffin stops half way then goes back into the ground.

Looking back at the manga, chapter 117 he says "I must do something about the third one" Then does a hand sign as well. Then says the third one didnt work, I was able to stop it.

Unless your saying he just assumed he stopped it but in reality there was no reason to bother because the coffin would of been empty? But why would the Third Hokage even bother knowing the 4th had been sealed away.

I loved Karin in this chapter, she acted like a complete victim and then got all demanding when it was really time for her to give up Sasuke to the leaf village, great moment! Who knew she could eat like a horse too, lol....

Centuries old?, Madara is in the generation before the 3rd hokage, he could easily be in his 90's, maybe even 80's. The 3rd Hokage was 69 when he died, and the 1st & 2nd hokage were his teachers, and Madara was the 1st's rival. Madara would not be that old, he definitely isnt.

Dude, about the pick were Itachi sais Madara is a founding father of Konoha, Konoha was founded less than 80 years ago, this is not exactly ancient times. Kakuzu being alive long enough to fight the 1st hokage means that he fought the 1st hokage less than 80 years ago, not ancient times.

EDIT: by the way, Kakuzu is 91 years old when he died, not even he was over 100.

I seriously doubt Madara would be into his hundreds, i mean come on, remember the Kage summit?, Madara once fought the current Tsuchikage in the past!!, he just cant be that old, unless you think Tsuchikage is that old too?

I mean look, every student teacher relationship weve had so far there have been less than 20 years difference between them. Kakashi is 14 years older than Naruto. 3rd Hokage was 19 years older than Jaraiya. 4th Hokage was in his mid 20's when he was Kakashis teacher 15 years ago (kakashi was 12-13). The 3rd Hokage was a student of the 1st and 2nd, they were probably less than 20 years older than he was too, just by looking at the ages in which ninja usualy take students.

With Madara being of the same Generation as the 1st and second hokages, its very unlikely that hes in his 100's.

Wow, Madara and Kabuto formed something of a small alliance with the promise of Sasuke being handed over to Kabuto, this was unexpected to me, yet I almost saw it coming. Strange. This chapter is very good if only because Kishimoto has quickly made the threat against the good guys many times more credible between Kisame's spying and Kabuto's insane newfound powers, as well as the established fearsomeness of Madara's near-invulnerability and Sasuke himself. It's quite a turn around from a short while ago when Kisame was allegedly dead and Sasuke seemed to be getting set up as Akatsuki's primary trump card.

Given how this is going, one almost wonders if Kabuto will end up being the true biggest threat in the end. But Madara's still a mystery in many ways and is no fool, and he's the villain with the direct ties to the Naruto/Sasuke conflict.

The story could be marching forward very quickly if an all-out attack on Madara's hideout is imminent. But Kisame's subplot suggests that the villains will see it coming, so far all we know there'll be a preemptive strike or the attack won't go as planned...in short, this may not quite be a final battle in the making. What it does mean is that Naruto probably only has a few short days to master the Fox and get even stronger.

I remember seeing some references as far back as Part 1. I think around the point Sasuke started to lose it when he realized just how quickly Naruto was improving. Of course I was only following the anime at that point so it could have been earlier than that.

The main charachter, Guo Jing, is a pure hearted Guy who starts off as a bit of a simpleton and semi-useless at martial arts. He's been trying to learn all his life with little success until he meets an old priest who teaches him to control his "inner energy". later on, he gains a kind of "innocent wisdom" which is best described by his girlfriend, Huang Rong, as "The man with only one face".

The rival, yang Kang, is a stuck-up guy from a rich family who is considered extremely talanted at martial arts, and has a presitgious family line with a secret technique that he ends up betraying. He's smart and cunning, and a bit of a hothead. He eventually seeks out the big bad of the series Ouyang Feng, who controls Snakes, to teach him to be more powerful.

Through the beginning of the story, Guo Jing and Yang Kang become "sworn Brothers", but get separated as Yang Kang becomes maddeningly jealous over How powerful Guo Jing is becoming, and how his power soon is completely eclipsed by Guo Jing despite his original standing.

And unlike romantic comedy animes/mangas, the Naruto series is constantly evolving and changing, nothing seems to state the same.

Naruto is sort of like Spiderman, meets Ninja Gaiden, meet Heavy Metal (movies).

Naruto is sort of like Peter Parker, he cannot seem to get his life together, no matter how many battles he has fought and won.

If it wasn't for the fact that Sakura and Hinata were nice girls, they would likely have one hell of a cat fight over Naruto. Think A-ko versus B-ko, only more destructive.

Yeah, I'm thinking Naruto is going to go seek some guidence from Killer Bee but I don't think he's fully going to learn how to work alongside of the Fox, instead I think the Fox is going to find a way to take over Naruto again and cause some major damage the next time he and Sasuke come face to face. Either that or the Naruto will lose control and something bad will happen to Killer Bee, which would lead to some kind of major conflict.
