"Shrek" has won the first ever Best Animated Picture award tonight at the Oscars. The film, from Dreamworks, took five years to make. "Shrek" was critically acclaimed, has won numerous awards and broken box office records.
Monster's Inc. won for best song: Randy Newman's If I Didn't Have You. "For The Birds" won for Best Animated Short Film, giving Pixar two awards for the night.

During the awards, the Academy and Kevin Spacey prayed for victims of the World Trade Center Attacks. As well as honoring celebrities that passed away recently such as Chuck Jones, William Hanna, and "Beat-All" George Harrison with clip biographies.
