This is the talkback thread for Tim Burton to Direct 3D Stop-Motion "Addams Family" (http://www.toonzone.net/news/articles/32986/tim-burton-to-direct-3d-stop-motion-addams-family).
Here's hoping Christopher Lloyd is involved. The man is Uncle Fester.

I still can't decide which Gomez I like best. Both Astin and Julia left such distinctive marks on the role that whoever follows them will have big shoes to fill.
I'm also wondering which direction they're going to take this. Will it be the lighter humor of the classic 60s series, the edgier, darker humor exhibited in the 90s movies and original New Yorker cartoons, a mix of the two or a whole new direction altogether.
I've got to say this has to be the Burton project that's intrigued me the most since the unfortunately shelved Believe It or Not.

Addams Family and Tim Burton go together like peanut butter and jelly.

I personally think Tim Burton's grim-dark-Goth-weird shtick began to get stale and tired around the late 90's, but I agree the man was born to direct an Addams Family feature.

I would say his shtick usually leans closer to candy-coated dark surrealism than grim-dark-Goth-weird. There's a certain Gothic sensibility to it, but other than his Batman movies, it's usually played for comic effect.
Besides, people always seem to forget Pee-Wee's Big Adventure, Ed Wood, Planet of the Apes and Big Fish, which were so far away from his usual style that it makes one wonder just what Burton would be capable of if he weren't both a brand name and a guy so set in his ways that there's an actual style named after him.

You forgot Mars Attacks.

What could he add to it that Sonnenfeld didn't already?

Geez, how could I have forgotten that one. It's one of my all-time faves. Burton and crew were able to take the practically unfilmable EC horror-inspired bubblegum card series and turn it into a rather entertaining send-up of 50s B-movies about alien invasion. It was nice to see a spoof that didn't rely on the butchered remains of the ZAZ formula laid out by Airplane 17 years prior. The 90s were kinda infested with that kind of film.

Odd timing, given there's also going to be an Addams Family musical on Broadway soon. Any connection between projects?

I've been unsure what to think of Burton's career in the past few years, but thinking about the Addams franchise, this shows a bit of potential for him.
As long as he doesn't try to add Johnny Depp in as Fester, at least.

It's animation, so Depp could play every single character if he wanted to. I know Depp only did the voice for one character in Corpse Bride, but maybe it'll be different this time.

Knowing Burton, he'll probably be Gomez.
This stop-motion Addams Family project sounds interesting nonetheless.

Quite interested in seeing how Burton will handle Addams Family movie. I think he could capture the feel of Addams Family. Though if Johnny Depp is going to be in in, I can see him as Gomez. I'm actually looking forward to this and the Broadway play as well.
Hum, This sounds great, I wish there were designs out already, what's going to be taken from all the other incarnations.
The musical is super good guys, I saw it in Chicago, Nathan Lane was great.

It's really amazing what an impact Nightmare Before Christmas made in Hollywood. That movie is entirely responsible for why Stop-motion movies are still occasionally being produced in this digital era, since it typecasted the entire technice as the one to use in "quirky, semi-gothic" animated films (which appears to be pretty much the only kind of animated films that Hollywood considers "safe" these days other than "computer animated comedy").
Anyway, yay, the Addams Family. I made a thread a few months back about how i wanted to see them in animated form again, see this is good news.

Do you think we will see anything other than the black and white striped costumes of Sonnenfeld's films?

That's a shame. I was looking more forward to this than anything on that list. And I guess this means that Believe It or Not is officially completely dead.
