I'm guessing they're aiming this show towards kids in the 12+ range; it strikes me as a more grown up Flapjack, which I like.

I loved this episode more than last week. Marceline was a very interesting antagonist in this episode. Loved every minute of it, from the song, the animation, and the final fight. Can't wait until April for it finally premiere.

What an awesome show that was. It was just 11 minutes of fun cartoon nonsense. Great themesong too. You've got this epic looking shot of the land and then suddenly you get such an anticlimactic yet awesome song. And Jake is just too amazing for words.

Wasn't it explained in the song? She's been alive so long that she has a warped understanding of good and bad (and I'd assume that goes for her value for life as well). She's not explicitly evil, she's just looking for a thrill and will be as much of a jerk as need be to get that rush.

This episode was pure gold. Seriously, I mean it.

Marceline, that "sexy vampire lady". She's awesome. I just can't help but love her character and personality, even if she is a bit of a selfish witch. I can't wait to see more of her, especially her supposed rivalry with Princess Bubblegum which was spoken of in the series bible.
The animation is impressively smooth and flow-y once again. In terms of aesthetics and production values, this is EXACTLY what TV animation should be like.
Finn and Jake's quest to find a new home is so sweet, especially the little bits of friendship between them. Awww.
The song montage accompanying said quest was beautiful. Simply beautiful.
Loved the final confrontation between Finn and monster Marceline. Seems like all she wanted was the thrill of a real fight.
The worm-cuddling at the end was so random and out-of-nowhere. Awwwwwww.
Like Rho said, CN had damn better roll out the "Team Marceline" merch in time for the show's official premiere. Though sadly, I get the funny feeling that she and Bubblegum will get shut out from the inevitable slew of merchandising simply because they're female characters (if they prove me wrong, I'll be happier than words could ever describe).

10/10, A+. An absolutely perfect 11-minute segment that fires on all cylinders. Adventure Time is on track to become one of CN's all-time greatest shows (and biggest hits).

And one final thing I just noticed... the Frederator Blog entry mentioned here actually links to the "I love Marceline" TZ social group created by Generator James (which I suggested to him). So this means they are definitely reading our feedback on this forum. That's pretty cool.

First time I've posted in ages, just to add my own spin on this since it seems to be taking over the discussion...

When I first saw the episode, I was broadly certain I heard "get ready for an UPPERCUT YOU DIE!" Which was hilarious and made perfect sense to me. You've got to remember that the Land of Ooo is essentially crazy-asperger's-fantasy-roleplay-world, where Finn has numerous call-out-attacks at his disposal and a constrained vocabulary with which to describe them.

An UPPERCUT-YOU-DIE! is essentially an attack command from the battle menu inside his mind. Very blunt, very direct, and does exactly what it says: an uppercut, at the end of which you die, thanks to the power bestowed from random shouting and Finn's pique of righteous fervour.

I love the world, love the crazyness, love the conceit of the 8-bit era rule-of-cool universe that Finn has to navigate like any other denizen, love Marceline strictly from a narrative perspective :ack:, and can't wait for more!

Ohhhh, it makes a good deal more sense now that you've explained it. It's easier to imagine it as kind of a single word. Almost sounds like a joke about making up a name for a kung-fu move.

Still, I'm glad it's "you dog," at least for the sake of clarity. An "Uppercut-you-die" joke would only make sense if we, like, saw his vision and he had an 8-bit attack menu in front of him. Everytime I've seen the episode, I've heard the "aw" sound of "dog" rather than an "I" sound.

Talking from a bit of a different perspective from everyone else here because I actually didn't have really high expectations for this show. The previews seemed a little stupid to me. This was the first episode that I watched. The show exceeded my expectations and I can see it growing on me. It didn't leave that unbelievable feeling that this will be one of the greatest CN shows ever like Chowder's premiere did for me. But it was still pretty good.

First thing's first: the theme song. I hated it. It didn't leave a good first impression for me and get me psyched like a theme song normally should. Good thing that the show picked up quick. I'll start with the voice actors. I really liked Jake's, it seemed to fit him perfectly. Finn's didn't. I just couldn't picture his voice going with that character. However I got used it pretty quickly and I think that that thought will disappear the more I watch it. Marceline's voice seemed a tad out of place at first, but I liked it eventually once I got a better feel for who her character was. Moving on to the characters themselves.

Jake was my favorite. He's got a great personality and I can see him being the comic relief of the show. It's a really original idea to have him be able to morph into different shapes. Finn on the other hand was only okay for me. His voice had something to do with it but also the character design. It's a bit plain and I can't get it through my head that he's a human. I really liked Marceline's character as well. The beginning creepy scenes with her were awesome and I loved the part when she turned into a bat for the epic fight scene. Speaking of which, let's get to the episode.

The beginning quickly made me forget about the theme song and my previous doubts of the show. I knew it was off to a great start with a scary story theme, especially when they worked the animation scenes well with Marceline in the background. I also was starting to get a hint that the show would push the PG rating when Finn said that Jake was "Full of it" and it got more mature as the episode progressed. Specifically the use of the word "Dyke" and "Sexy vampire lady" in the song. However, while sometimes there was more suggestive humor, there was also some that seemed particularly for kids. I can't seem to think of any examples but I remember instances where I was thinking, "Man, that was pretty lame." It seemed almost like the creators were in denial for what kind of show they wanted to make it.

Now, back to the plot. It was a really good idea for an episode, but I still feel like they could have done more with it. All of the meat was in the beginning and the end, but the middle was a little boring. Maybe they really need Marceline's character to spice up the episode. And that's a bit of a trouble spot that the creators need to work on. I'm not sure how good episodes will be with only Finn & Jake. 2 characters just aren't enough for a show that's so far "out there." Hopefully there will be some sort of antagonist or backup character most of the time. So yes, for the strengths there still are weaknesses. But I still see a lot of potential coming from the show. It may be obscure but so is my second favorite movie, Alice in Wonderland so I can really appreciate it. I hope that they make good use of the oddity and I see the show heading in the right direction.
