View Full Version : Improving the Swim

Adult Swim is pretty alright these days but that doesn't mean it couldn't be better. The variety is rather lacking for one thing and they replay some shows to death while others nary get a rerun even in a "bad slot".

What would you do to improve Adult Swim?

Oh and putting anime on weekdays would be nice but let's just assume that's off the table because there's no reason to believe they're going to expand anime beyond Saturday again nor do they really "need to" for ratings purposes. They have a much larger comedy back log they could be using. But I'm all for making all of Saturday anime again. Having the 2 hours of comedy upfront seems rather pointless in my opinion. Even if it's just more Inuyasha and Bleach from 10PM-12AM it'd be nice to have an entire night for action. Or at least play some more actiony comedies that night like The Venture Bros. and Titan Maximum.

Got a little side-tracked there but keep that in mind... no anime on weekdays unless you can make a very compelling argument for it to be on weekdays. Otherwise I guess the sky's the limit so to speak.

IMO, one hour of comedy before anime is fine, but two hours is pushing it. Do we really need Stroker and hoop again? At least air american dad.

IMO, anime needs to stay where it's at for now. I used to be one of the fans wanting more of it, but in recent times I have a falling out with it. So one night a week is fine.

As for it's comedies, I can't imagine Squidbillies staying much longer. I wonder if they want it to be like ATHF and last forever.

I'd argue they need at least 1.5 hours of comedy to have a reason to air comedy on Saturday at all.

I'd also argue the anime would do better 10PM-12AM than 12AM-6AM because those fans would have an easier time tuning in those earlier hours and it's good counter-programing to SNL.

Look at it this way. If CN were to play action shows in the 9 hour on Saturday having an hour of KotH (it's about all they can air in that time slot) followed by non-stop anime would seem really pointless. With the possiblity or premiering 3 to 4 shows at one time this year on Saturday night it'd be better if they could run those premieres 11PM-1AM rather than 12AM-2AM but even 11:30PM-1:30AM would be slightly better. Hence why I say 3 comedy slots are the minimum for comedy to have a reason to be on Saturday.

Throw the 5AM hour of Inuyasha at 10PM and they have tame enough filler for that hour that would possibly do as well or better than King of the Hill then they could run premieres from 11PM-1AM. And they could play comedy the rest of the night after that for all I care but it may as well stay action since comedy viewers aren't around in droves on Saturday night.

Otherwise maybe 1 episode of King of the Hill and air The Oblongs and Venture Bros. or Titan Maximum paired with Robot Chicken or Perfect Hair Forever.

I'd pick up that George Liquor show.

COME OOOOOOOOON, ADULT SWIM. THE WORLD NEEDS MORE INTERNET FLAME WARS.

I would say anime on weekdays, but that would piss people off. So I'd put anime on both Friday and Saturday(with an hour of comedy before) I'd also like more story based, 30 minute series rather than the 15 min comedies that really make no sense. And maybe 1 or 2 stop motion shows.

Somehow I doubt that.

At this point, I would suggest looking for new talent, as the well certainly seems dry with the old teams.

It would probably give the block a strong shot in the arm, and it would probably stop feeling so tired and insular.

Adult Swim needs new shows, and lots of them. Williams Street has been relying on the same teams for too long now. Aqua Teen Hunger Force and Robot Chicken can only go on for so much longer. Also, AS needs to have some more intelligent comedy and less random stoner humor.

One major thing Adult Swim could do in my opinion is to make KOTH and Family Guy only a half an hour each, that means that they would end at 11pm and then they could air shows like Robot Chicken, ATHF, Superjail, Moral Orel, Oblongs and other fine AS shows a little earlier instead of starting it all at midnight and beyond. Another thing they could do is stop airing live action British comedy, it's an annoyance and I think the hardcore AS fans would much prefer more anime or more classic AS programming instead.

[adult swim] could stand to cut back on the constant repeats. (Maybe it shouldn't air every night anymore...)

They also need to bring in some new talent; the revolving door of the same types of shows coming from the same groups of people is definitely getting tiresome. [as] is badly in need of variety.

I'd also like to see a return to intelligent humor and less reliance on blood/gore/gross-out/sexist/racist/random stoner comedy.

It'd be nice if Season 3 of Moral Orel was actually finished.

As far as the anime goes, I'd handle it on a case by case basis. If particular title does sufficiently well and has a high number of episodes, then give it a week day slot.

Thank you. I mean given that King of the Hill does well, it should prove that the audience can enjoy the more subtle adult tones.

Fix Saturday night. Me and my bro were waiting for Brotherhood to come on and then here comes Stroker and Hoop!

We laughed and said WTF!

You know what I'd like to see? A throwback schedule on Thursdays. Just like old times. Brak Show, Space Ghost, Home Movies (at a watchable time), Sealab, Birdman, ATHF and Family Guy's early seasons. That'd be good times.
