They say Whoopi Goldberg is the host. Whatup with that? Steve Martin did it last year and he did an awesome job. I know she's hosted before, but how do you go from the genius that is Steve Martin to Whoopi?

the only part that actually had me laughing out loud was the ben stiller bit where he was dressed up as the dwarf from lord of the rings..i think they should work on getting him to write and host the entire show next year.

Bleh. I didn't watch the Oscars, but the movie I want never wins. LOTR was so much better than ABM, which was quite overrated in my book. On the other hand, I'm very happy that Denzel finally got the Oscar, he definitely deserved it. I wonder if Russel Crowe's throwing a raging hissyfit now.

I'm glad Halle Berry won, and I'm glad Denzel won, because he deserved it after the Hurricane upset. I knew Ron Howard was going to win, which is why I wanted LOTR to win the best picture. To bring a phenomenal book like that to life is no easy task. I predict that one of the trilogy will win. I hope anyway the third one will.

That's A shame Lord Of The Rings didn't win. Oh well, at least it got some Golden Globes. By the way, What's the difference between the Oscars, and The Golden Globes? Just wanted to know.

I stayed up from 12am until 6am here in the UK to watch the live feed. What was with Glenn Close and Donald Sutherland ?? I mean, how cheesy can you get ?

There are no ads on the BBC so when they stopped for a break Johnathon Ross (UK presenter) came on and just took the piss out of Donald and Glenn. He said 'they look like old radio presenters'.

Apart from that a great show.

I loved the audience shots of Shrek, Monsters Inc and Neutron.

 I was gutted that 'Amelie' did not get best foreign film. What's up with that ?????????????????????

Halle Berry quickly created the medias next day talking point after a so far normal show.

The best director / film going to ABM was a total shock. I had just assumed that LOTR would get it.

Guess thats what makes it more exciting :)

-Brian UK .... tired ....zzzzzzzzzzzzz

I always had a feeling that the Oscars were fixed but just could not bring myself to believe it. After last night, I know they are fixed and I won't be wasting my time ever again with it.

Good:

There was a nice touch when Tobey and Kirsten made their entrance to present the visual effects award, as John Williams and the orchestra played the 60's version of the Spider-Man theme!

Halle Berry & Denzel Washington winning. I thought it was great to see Halle make history. I recommend yuo see Monsters Ball just for her performance.

Shrek winning

Randy Neuman winning best song after 16 loses in the past 25 odd years.

Bad:

Lord of the Rings only winning 4 of theit 13 monimations

A Beautiful Mind and Ron Howard winning when Lord of the Rings just deserved it more.

Ian McKellan losing

Paul McCartney not winning Best Song

Over 4 hours long...man...

Geez, no sore losers here. Sorry, but Ron Howard's deserved this for a long time and now he's finally got it. LotR won four Oscars, so be happy. I already see the vegetables being hurled in my direction, but LotR was good, but not as good as you guys try to make it. I mean, I was looking forward to it, and when I went to see it, I fell asleep cause it moved so slow- and I never fall asleep during a movie. The only thing I wish is that Enya would have won, but Randy Newman's another one that's been there forever and had yet to win, so congrats to him as well...

Which awards did LotR win?

And what was it that Halle Berry did to make history?

I just couldn't bring myself to watch the awards program. Most of the time Oscars go to movies that I couldn't stand, while overlooking the films that were truly qualified for the position of Best Film.

Halle and Denzel won,LOTR won what I call the "No one really cares awards" (Special effects, makeup, etc.)

Halle Berry is the first Non-Caucasian female EVER to win best actress in a leading role.

i think LOTR only won technical awards because there is so much more to it than Fellowship of the Rings. It's incomplete without the other two films even though it does stand on its own. I say wait till the entire trilogy has been released then watch for the awards.

I don't think the Oscars are fixed. I think there are a lot of politics that go on and there's definitely some kind of influence from marketing strategies.
Still, to an average person like me, the Academy Award show means nothing. I don't have to watch it and it doesn't affect my life whether or not A Beautiful Mind wins best picture.

And I think Denzel was the first African-American to win "Best Actor" since Sidney Poitier in 1963 (Lilies of the Field).

Well, I didn't care for most of the movies this year, except for the animated ones. It's all fine with me!

I loved the Oscars as a show.

Since I saw so few of the nominees from last year, I can't make many calls on the winners front. I will say congrats to Denzel, Halle, Jennifer, Jim, Randy and Shrek, though.

I was surprised at all the firsts-Halle, Randy, Woody, Opie...it was amazing. The montages were great, and they actually acknowledged Aaliyah in the montage of those who died during the past year. That was cool.

One question...When they mentioned William Hanna, how come they showed clips from his *TV SHOWS* "Flintstones" and "Scooby-Doo"? Wouldn't a "Tom and Jerry" have been more appropo? At least Chuck Jones got his due with his theatrical work.

Sincerely,

John "Captain Caps" Kilduff

Halle's little supposedly impromptu verbal tantrum at the podium (don't be fooled; she rehearsed it for weeks) has really drawn mixed criticisms. Whether noble or just idiotic, many will agree she got a little over the top. Even her fellow actors had raised eyebrows while she talked.
One radio host has said that Hollywood, despite being a bastian of tolerance, probably is more racist even today then Selma, Alabama in the sixties, if more subtle about it. Certainly it's more hypocritical; look at the activists who drive gas-guzzlers and dine on sumptuous dinners while they pay lip-service to the environmet and the animal rights folks and the indigent...or the rather McCarthyish blacklists of known homosexual actors during the AIDS scare of the eighties paperered over with sensitivity-showing red ribbons. I find it funny.

Excuse my ignorance, but what exactly did Halle say? I didn't watch the awards, so I'm a little confused about it.

I cracked up at this too. Over the years, Ben Stiller has continually proven his talent for putting together hilarious pretaped segments.

I loved seeing Woody Allen, he was also great. An Oscar winner himself, he has never before attended the ceremonies. I think it's because he doesn't believe creative ventures like movies or books should be subjected to competition. I see his point. He said he was there last night not for the Oscars, but for New York. Either way, it was good to have him.
