I went to a few video stores today looking for rare cartoon videos, and found some interesting stuff. I found (but didn't buy) copies of Porky Pig Cartoon Festival Featuring "Tom Turk and Daffy" and Bugs Bunny's Hare-Raising Tales.
I DID buy a used copy (for $4) of Casper's Animal Friends with four Casper cartoons, "Keep Your Grin Up", "Boo Kind to Animals", "By the Old Mill Scream", and "Good Scream Fun".
The tape was interesting, it used the Casper and Friends closing, and it even said at the start of the tape (with an ad for the Casper video series) "These cartoons have the original voices and music!"... Gee, I guess there was some sort of controversy over the Casper TV show around the time of the video's release... :p

Yep, the people who watched 'Casper and Friends' on Fox Family channel in the early 1990s heard synthesizer music and new voices redubbed over. I think Buzzy (The Funny Crow) hasn't been changed back yet, probably because some people may find his old voice offensive. But I found a tape recently with Heckle and Jeckle,Buzzy,Mighty Mouse and Popeye on-I'll see what that one says when I get it.

Inspired by Thad's used video store finds, I went out today to a local "mom & pop" video store, and managed to pick up the Cartoon Moviestars video for the Pink Panter, and the Adventures of Droopy video, all for $2.50 each. Not bad at all. I think I'll start checking places like that out more often.

Yeah, checking out those places are usually worth it. I've found a bunch of rare videos at those places, including Disney's An Officer and a Duck and the only official Herman & Katnip tape in exsistance.

I haven't been lucky enough to come accross any good "mom and pop" video stores. I've looked around, and in the phone book, but they usually say what they sell in the book, or I have a phone conversation like this:
them: Hello, This is (insert innocent sounding store name here), how can I help you?
me: Yes, I was wondering if you have any cartoon videos
them: Um, I'm sorry (long pause), we're an adult store.
They really ought to mention what kind of video store they are in the phone book.
Suncoast sometimes has some wierd things in it, but I've found that the dollar store and Big Lots are really the only places that sell Public Domain and out of print videos.

I agree. The used tape sections of various video stores can be an excellent (and inexpensive) way to find rare classic cartoon collections! I have found loads of treasures in them over the years.

By the way, how many Casper tapes were there from that series? The video has an ad for six of the tapes, but I know there were more made, since I've seen them in various places. I never realized they were the classic Casper shorts until today!

One place some of you may want to look is Menards (a hardware store). A couple years ago they sold sets of three or four Casper tapes. I regret not buying them when they were available. Some places in other parts of the country may still have them.

I never realized those Casper tapes were classic shorts either! I figured they were just more volumes of Casper & The Teen Angels !!

I can just imagine all of the goodies awaiting us at some of the nicer flea markets too! That's something else I'm going to check out. Also.....I've found good stuff on half.com, including the 1954 A Night At The Movies video!
