The only real way that I could see a Gilligan's Island movie feel relevant in 2010 is if they play off a lot of Survivor and Lost (and maybe, the movie Castaway, even though that movie is 10 years old now).
Yeah, Gilligan is pretty much a parody of Lost/Castaway/Survivor...
It's like THEY COULD see into the future!
Can't say I care..
Well.. ..
Who will play Ginger and who will play Mary Ann?

Christina Hendricks (that hot redheaded woman from Mad Men) was the first name to pop in my head as an actress who could play Ginger.

Natalie Portman could play Mary Ann. Scarlet Johanson could dye her hair red and be Ginger.

Good question. I concur with Brandon about his choices for Mary Ann and Ginger, but why would Scarlett Johanson want to dye her hair red? Why not let her play the role in her own natural hair color. I don't know who'll play Mr. & Mrs. Howell, but I was thinking Gary Valentine as Capt. Jonas Grumby, a.k.a. Skipper and Thomas Haden Church as Prof. Roy Hinckley. Now, that only leaves Gilligan, but I was thinking Gary Lundy could play him. Back to the forum floor.

Hm. Years ago, I read that some studio had plans to make a Gilligan's Island movie with Martin Short as Gilligan.
The challenge here will be trying to market this and make it relevant/interesting to today's movie-going youth.

Have some female pseudo-celebrity play Ginger, and you're all set.

I wonder if the movie will be more of a satire the way The Brady Bunch Movie was.

Actually Lost/Castaway/Survivor is a parody of Gilligan's Island and Dusty's Trail (interestingly enough, both Gilligan and Dusty in Dusty's Trail were in fact the same actor, Bob Denver)
so in a way Gilligan's Island and Dusty's Trail are in fact the originals. Lost, Castaway, and Survivor are in fact the parodies.

I don't think you understand what a parody is. It is to "make a spoof of or make fun of"

Therefore Lost & Survivor (haven't seen Castaway so can't say for sure) aren't parodies.

I read that currently the producers have their eye on Michael Cera to play Gilligan.
Make of that what you will.

Well, Michael Cera does have that "clueless" look going that Gilligan had.

Didn't we already have them together in The Other Boleyn Girl? Too much Portman/Johanson love could send a man to Heaven but, to some people, it'll just be a gimmick just like using 3D to get people to pay higher ticket prices just to see a film that's unlikely to be in 3D until we got the 3D HDTV's.
Well, Michael Cera does have that "clueless" look going that Gilligan had.
Someone out there is already complaining about Michael Cera being in every single film that's coming to theaters along with Jonah Hill, McLovin (Chris Mintz-Plasse), and Shia LeBoeuf.

Oh for the love of Mike.
They better get good cast for this, none of this Joe Jonas/Rob stuff.
Sure it was a comedy, its a classic series though. I'd watch it on TV Land with my family.

But why would Scarlett Johanson want to dye her hair red?She did for her Black Widow role in 'Iron Man 2' So that's not out of the realm of possibility. Anyway, it was only a matter of time before 'Gilligan's Island' made the jump to the movie screen. i'm surprised it took as long as it did since we've had a good bit of classic TV shows become movies during the 90's.

The original Mary Ann, Dawn Wells on whom she would cast (http://groups.google.com/group/rec.arts.tv/browse_thread/thread/f8d94646a8ada0c6#):
“William Shatner as the Skipper is totally wrong. The Skipper was a genuine,
sweet and warm character, and he was larger than life.William Shatner doesn’t
fulfill that at all," she said. "But I think Michael Cera would be a very good
Gilligan.”
“We need to be racially diverse in this film so I think Tyler Perry would be
fabulous as the Skipper," she told Fox411. "I would cast Melanie Griffith and
Kelsey Grammer as Mr. and Mrs. Howell, and I would cast Eric McCormack as the
Professor."
And her best TV buddy Ginger?
“I think the essence of Ginger is really Paris Hilton. But if you are going to
be ethnically diverse I would say Beyonce or Jennifer Lopez."
Now to the hardest recast of all - her own.
"Mary Ann is a real tough one, but I think Drew Barrymore could do it
beautifully – she has that sweet face. But Mary Ann was strong, she made you
clean, she made you cook, she made sure you were fair.”
According to Wells, the most challenging aspect of the casting process will be
trying to capture that essence of innocence which she said made the original
CBS series a family-friendly staple in the American home.
“I was very much Mary Ann. I was raised with all the principals and ethics,
work ethic and study habits that Mary Ann was raised with. That’s my
generation. It’s going to be difficult to cast that now,” she said. “Mary Ann
was a wonderful role model and there hasn’t been a Mary Ann on television
until Miley Cyrus [in 'Hannah Montana'].
"Mary Ann is a good girl. She was a virgin, so casting now is going to be
difficult. I don’t know where they are going to go with it, are they going to
make it current or retroactive to what we were like? I don’t know what their
vision is, I am very anxious to meet the new producers and the writers.”
I don't necessarily think that a racially diverse cast is necessary (that's kind of a case of being politically correct just to be politically correct). I just think that you need to celebrate the spirit of the show while still making it relevant to the times.

Ginger's essence as Paris Hilton? Maybe to a certain point, but that's about it. (Good night, everybody.:yakko:) At least i agree with her about Shatner. He's not bad, but just not quite right for The Skipper.

There was a late-season episode of Roseanne where they paid homage to Gilligan's Island, and John Goodman made a terrific Skipper. :)
