View Full Version : What Did You Buy/Get This Month? March 2010

Welcome to the thread that promotes consumerism and support of the video game industry. Whether it's a video game, a gaming system, an accessory, downloadable content, or an unopened box of the Nintendo Cereal System on eBay – seriously, someone blew over $200 recently to get said cereal (http://retro.nintendolife.com/news/2010/02/nintendo_cereal_system_sells_for_usd200) – if it's gaming related and you either bought it or got it as a gift during March 2010, post it here.

And now, the new releases this month. It continues a trend. A trend of having your wallet bleed dry due to potentially great games coming out. Some on the same day: Supreme Commander 2 on the same day as Bad Company 2; Yakuza 3 on the same day as Final Fantasy 13; Command & Conquer 4, God of War 3, and 4 original IPs on the 16; and, Shin Megami Tensei and Sakura Wars come out on the same day as the Just Cause and Red Steel sequels. Not only that, but we begin and end the month with Mega Man due to the staggered release of Mega Man 10 across three platforms. Enjoy the pain, Pokeholics and non-Pokeholics alike!

NOTE: This is the release list of the games coming out in North America. Most of the dates were culled from IGN.com. Special Editions/Gold Editions/Game Of The Year Editions/Special Bundles/etc. will be detailed and notified. ALL RELEASE DATES ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE.

March 2010/Q1 2010
Too many to type and pseudo copypasta; I ain't doing it all. Also, IGN lists games with a Q1 2010/March 2010 dates as March 30, 2010 or March 31, 2010, so there's that. You want to see all the games that may come out? Go to IGN. Meanwhile, here's some highlights that got my interest and may appeal to yours:
Shantae: Risky's Revenge – DSi Ware
Diagnosis Murder – PC
Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney—Rise From The Ashes – WiiWare
Metal Slug – PSP (probably a Mini or PSP-N)
Charlie Murder – XBLIG/XBLA

Even though I vowed not to spend any more money on games until I had beaten a lot of the ones I had, I found good deals on Final Fantasy Tactics Advanced, Mega Man Battle Chip Challenge, and Sonic Unleashed...now they'll sit there until I get to them.

Contemplating dropping the $10 for Mega Man 10.

Street Fighter Alpha 3? PSone Classic (PS3 and PSP)

Oh awesome, I thought they weren't going to do that because SFA3's on there already for PSP (I didn't want to buy it for $20)

Oh awesome, I thought they weren't going to do that because SFA3's on there already for PSP (I didn't want to buy it for $20)The thing is, the only thing we know about it is that, back in June (http://ps3.ign.com/articles/994/994740p1.html), an entry for SFA3 for PS3/PSP as a PSone classic was noticed on the ESRB website. That entry is still there when you search for "street fighter alpha 3" on the ESRB website. (http://www.esrb.org/index-js.jsp) But, take it with a grain of salt on if it comes out this month on I end up posting the entry again in the June release list.

As for this month's releases, nothing new excites me outside of BlazBlue Portable, FFXIII, Perfect Dark, Charlie Murder, and the Game Room. Unless something surprises me from the upcoming PSN and XBLIG updates, it's probably those titles and whatever interests me at the random Best Buy/Gamestop/Target/Walmart visit.

Wow, only two games this month are really catching my interest. They're two of the obvious games: Final Fantasy XIII on PS3 and God of War III. It may be like... the very end of the month because I pick up GoWIII, but FFXIII is definitely being picked up right away on t he 9th. Glad spring break is coming up. Lol I plan on spending the majority of it with FFXIII.

Mega Man 10 (WiiWare)

I had a lot of fun with this one. I thought it was better than 9 but the music wasn't as good. Can't wait for the Bass DLC!

Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence (PS2) - Used

Got this for the ports of Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake so I can have the whole series. I plan on making a custom cover so I can put the disc in a seperate PS2 case.

...I wonder what I should do with the extra MGS3 disc?

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots (PS3)

My first PS3 game. I initially rented it last weekend but couldn't finish it before the due date so I bought it. Fantastic game so far even if the cutscenes are a tad bit...long.

I had finally gotten Endless Ocean 2: Blue World on Monday, about a week after it's initial release date. And now I'm happy I waited 2 years for it.:anime:

I shall be getting SoulSilver Version also this month... and speaking of Pokemon games, I have a pretty good idea of what game(s) I could be getting a year from now... providing if it's out by then here in the US. But sometime next year, fo sho.

I picked up Mega Man 10 via WiiWare, Resident Evil 5: Desperate Escape via XBLA, Mass Effect for the 360 (the first one, I'm behind), Sonic Classics Collection for the DS, and a new charge cable for the PS3 because the charge cable that comes with the PS3 is absurdly short. This one is a good ten feet.

I got Mega Man 10, and am saving the rest of my points for Cave Story.

I also got Perfect Dark Zero for free yesterday and am frightened to learn how far Rare dropped the ball on it. But with Perfect Dark XBLA coming out soon, I may just wait on that.

If I had a PS3, I'd be getting Yakuza 3 at full price this month. But since I don't and have limited funds, I probably won't be getting anything.

Just picked up Major League Baseball 2K10 1999-2009 10th Anniversary Edition for the Wii and I'm finding the controls are much improved over MLB2K9 from last year. But at the same time I'm also finding that hitting home runs is pretty easy if you can get contact with the ball.

And I'm playing as the Toronto Blue Jays.

Agreed, although my choice picks are FFXIII and Resonance of Fate. It looks like an interesting game. God of War 3 maybe something that strikes my interest some where later on down the road, like in a year or 2.

Err... first Feb had only a few games that aroused my curiousity and now March only has 2. Hmm... wondering if this is where the great or interesting games (for me) start going on the decline, and then pick back up somewhere in the summer.

Anyway, I'm pretty much stomped on what I'm gonna get this month. I'm thinking about picking up Okami, and one of the Persona games (probably 4), or Mass Effect. (I'm not for spending $60 on games) I'm also thinking about picking up Zelda: Twilight Princess for the Gamecube. Tough call.

God of War 3 maybe something that strikes my interest some where later on down the road, like in a year or 2.I must have skipped Resonance of Fate while looking over the list. I've been following that one pretty closely as well, and looking forward to it.

As for God of War 3, I was anticipating having the GoW Collection for PS3 completed by tonight, which honestly is not happening. Now with FFXIII releasing in only 7 hours, it's looking like GoW is going to take the back seat for a while. I'm still even playing through Star Ocean: TLH haha. Thinking about it now, it may just be worth the wait for Greatest Hits pricing.

--Heavy Metal Chris is worth the money in Mercenaries. He can't be grabbed from behind, and he has infinite ammo so you don't have to stop and grab items. He will get you an SS rank easy on every level because he can pick a corner and mow down everybody. A really good way to unlock bonuses, because an SS gives you 5,000 points at a time.

I bought a used copy of Chrono Trigger for the DS for a bargain £9.99 a couple of weeks back. It hadn't been released in this country prior, and to be honest, it was mostly an impluse buy since I currently have just enough money to burn.
Adding to that, I'm not usually one for RPGs outside pokemon and the Mario series, but man, I really enjoyed playing through this game. Lots of cool characters to command, and I loved the entire time travel concept and being able to effect the present via side-quests and the like. Just makes me wonder how many other quality SNES and Mega Drive games I've been missing out on...

Well, I bit the bullet this weekend and finally purchased an XBox 360. I figured, the timing was right because they're offering a spring special right now where you get two free games with it (Forza Motorsport 3 and Halo 3 ODST). Plus, my original XBox is ailing (still works, but it can be difficult), so I'd like another console to play some of my old games on.

Should have the Jasper chip in it, so hopefully I won't encounter any RROD problems. (crosses fingers)

^Just keep it in a well ventilated area and it should be good. Of course it isn't a true solution, but it does help tremendously. This look ventilated enough? (it's hard to see in the picture, but there's no back to the shelf that the 360 is on)

Honestly, I don't think so. It would probably be better off standing up on the top shelf. It might just be my paranoia talking, but it's also the only system I've ever had that has overheated (and RROD on me), so I tend to keep it standing in an open area just in case. I haven't had any problems since then.

(crosses fingers)I hope you still kept your old Xbox since some games may not work on the 360. Please consult the bc list on both Xbox.com (http://www.xbox.com/en-US/games/backwardcompatibilitygameslist.htm) and on Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Xbox_games_compatible_with_Xbox_360) (Wiki reveals the glitches, graphical problems, and other major flaws for the games that do). Also, prepare to go back to square one for all Xbox 1 games and, if you had Live on the old system, get the DLC for those that support it before April 15 when Xbox Live goes 360-only. Just a heads-up.

Also, it does have the Jasper chipset. But, still, pay for the warranty through Microsoft just in case.

I don't know if this means anything, but I got an RROD twice with my old XBOX, and both of those times I had it laying on its side. The second time it failed for good, but thankfully I had a warranty on it and got it replaced completely free of charge, and when I got my new one, one of the guys working at Best Buy told me that it helps to keep it standing up rather than laying on its side. I've kept it that way since then, and I haven't encountered a single RROD, or any technical problems for that matter, evenr since then, but that may just be a coincidence since the newer model XBOX360's (which is the one that I have right now) have been reported to be much less faulty than the ones which were initially released back when the console was still brand new.

Oh yeah, and like Vyse said, make sure you still keep you original XBOX handy if it still manages to work well enough to play games, since not all original XBOX games are BC, and even some of the ones that are can sometimes act up weird when being played on the XBOX360 (I have had times when I was playing an old XBOX game and the sound would completely die out when I was playing it on the XBOX360, at any given moment, but perhaps that problem just happened to me, since I don't think that I've ever heard anyone else mention that problem before).

Still, it's nice to have a new console to play [some of] the old games on that's not so... fickle.

Backwards compatibility for the 360 is not something Microsoft proclaims every now and again, especially since the Xbox Originals download service (where you can buy, download, and play full Xbox 1 games onto the 360's hard drive), was integrated into Games On Demand (same deal, but for full disc-based 360 games). Trying to be helpful, that's all.

Also, caved in and got Perfect Dark on XBLA.

I downloaded all 3 Block Party games from Xbox Live. Toy Soldier, Perfect Dark, and Scrap Metal. Will Download Block Party when it becomes available. Also downloaded the new FireWalker DLC for Mass Effect 2 as well, enjoying that so far, as I was looking for a way to get my Shepard to level 30.

Got a used copy of Ace Combat 04 and a new copy of Ace Combat 5 for the PlayStation 2. I wasn't going to get 5, but the low price tag currently on Amazon was hard to pass up.

Also downloaded the Game Room for the Xbox 360, and bought two arcade games (the basic option), Scramble and Super Cobra. I thought I was going to get into Super Cobra more than Scramble, but I'm finding myself playing Scramble more.

2 more Game Room games:

-Battllantis, 360-only (possibly upgraded to "Play Anywhere" status in the future, but I have a challenge to play involving it.)

Gamestop is having their yearly Game Day Sale, and I decided that there might be a few gems to pick out during this event. Right now I just bought BlazBue: Calamity Trigger, and X-Men Origins: Wolverine for $19.99 each. Might as well see what's special about BlazBlue and I always wanted to get Wolverine game, but I thought the price tag for it was expensive, especially for a game based on a movie.

Also, I bought a new game for my Game Room, Shao Lin Road after trying it out in Desensitized game room, I thought it was fun and decided to purchases it for my own Game Room.

After over 10 years give or take after getting, playing, and beating Pokemon Blue, I finally caved in and bought a proper Pokemon game. Yes, that showed my care for Pokemon beyond catching the TV show every now and then. But, instead of going with the new "it" game with HeartGold/SoulSilver, I bought Pokemon Platinum used at GameStop. Because, if I'm going back into Pokemon, I'm doing it with the old game and not contribute to Nintendo's bottom line.

Also, GameStop's Game Days sales (http://www.gamestop.com/gs/landing/gdays2010/) got to me. Pure is 15 bucks, so I had to get my hands on the 360 version. I may go back later to get Phantasy Star Portable, Dissidia, or the horribleness of Tony Hawk Motion.

A few minutes ago I just picked up a Xbox 360 Elite with Halo ODST and some racing game.

And since I bought that GameStop gave me a 50 dollar gift card which I used to get Batman Arkham Asylum.

I'd try rearranging things a little if I were in your shoes. You want to have at least a couple inches' clearance on all sides, especially wherever there are air vents. Maybe the angle is bad in that picture, but it looks like the right side of the Xbox is flush with the side of the shelf. Unless they changed things on the Elite, there's a whole row of air vents there that are completely blocked in that setup. Maybe see if you can find another place to store your PS1 games so that you can move the Xbox to the top shelf and center it.

Forza 3 does have scalable difficulty and driving assists to make it more playable to people like me who hate GT and sim racers and prefer arcade racers.

Also, in light of it being officially tracked (http://www.gamasutra.com/view/pressreleases/56765/You_Will_Die_Becomes_The_First_Xbox_Live_Indie_GameIncluded_On_Twin_Galaxies.php) by Twin Galaxies (http://www.twingalaxies.com/) (yeah, them from that movie (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_King_of_Kong:_A_Fistful_of_Quarters)), I bought Xbox Live Indie Game title You Will Die. Here's some gameplay (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MZlWFW5zyrQ)

It was a tough decision but I decided to order Okami instead of Suikoden 5. It basically came down to which was cheaper. With me being on a budget at the moment.

I'm also tossing on if I want to buy Zelda: Twilight Princess for the Gamecube or Final Fantasy 12, and again, I'm leaning towards FF12 because of it's low price, although I wouldn't mind trying out TP. I'm looking for some lengthy (bad idea since I go to class at night), but at the same time, cheap games here.

My personal experience, both times I've started FFXII from beginning I only went through about 11 hours each and stopped. Currently it has just been sitting on my shelf for the last 8 months, while TP has seen usage in my Wii several times in that time period.

As for me, I finally had a reason to pick up Persona 4 and Disidia, due to GameStop's Game Days. Twenty bucks a pop isn't so bad. BlazBlue is also only twenty for PS3... I just need some hardcore convincing to pick it up.

I got Tatsunoko vs Capcom from my older brother today. this is actually my first time trying this game and I'm pretty surprised by how Capcom managed to simplify the controls even more from Marvel vs Capcom 2.

I also got 40 bucks from my relatives that I plan to use to buy Heart Gold later this week.
