What exactly is DC Entertainment?

I know that it is pretty new and came shortly after Disney bought Marvel.

I also know that Geoff Johns from the Green Lantern/Flash/Blackest Night comics is one of those in charge of it.

Is it like a seprete branch from DC and WB? I thought that all of DC's animated stuff was drawn gorgeously by WB Animation.

Also what is its purpose? I know it is a big thing for DC, but am not sure what it means for them.

It's a newly formed corporate branch within Time Warner that controls DC Comics (the new co-publishers of DC Comics, Dan DiDio and Jim Lee, report to Diane Nelson, the president of DC Entertainment) and seeks to streamline and strengthen efforts to develop DC as a brand across all media: comics, TV, films, video games, etc.

Warner Bros will still produce DC films and TV shows, and Warner Animation will still make DC animated shows and DTVs, but the previous state of affairs where DC properties where developed in a haphazard way by various producers and execs within Warners will now be replaced by a much more structured and centralized approach.

Geoff Johns has been made Chief Creative Officer and he'll report directly to Diane Nelson. Johns will play a big role in working with producers and screenwriters to tap into the potential of DC properties. He's currently working on the screenplays for The Flash and Shazam! with Dan Mazeau and Bill Birch respectively.
