After Elimination Chamber (http://www.toonzone.net/forums/showthread.php?t=264328), SmackDown has a new World Champion. With the Chamber match down to Champion The Undertaker and Chris Jericho, Shawn Michaels came up through a grate in the Chamber, giving Undertaker Sweet Chin Music and allowing Jericho to become World Champion. On RAW (http://www.toonzone.net/forums/showthread.php?t=264372), Royal Rumble winner Edge declared his intentions to face his former tag team partner Jericho.

The SmackDown roster also has the WWE Champion, when Batista defeated John Cena for that title after Cena won the RAW Elimination Chamber. Those two will also meet at WrestleMania.

In other SmackDown action, Drew McIntyre successfully defended his Intercontinental Championship against Kane and Michelle McCool & Layla defeated RAW Divas Gail Kim & Maryse when Vickie Guerrero made the Divas Tournament finals into a tag team match.

We already know Ezekiel Jackson is headed to SmackDown and Trent Barreta & Caylen Croft made their debut on the brand last week. Tonight, Shelton Benjamin is pictured as being involved in tonight's Money in the Bank qualifiers, confirming his signing. Will more former ECW Superstars find a new home tonight?

MAKING MONEY
Tonight on SmackDown, seven Superstars will compete in two singles matches and one Triple Threat Match to earn an opportunity to be in the Money in the Bank Ladder Match at WrestleMania. By night’s end, three Superstars will be on their way to The Grandest Stage of Them All. Who will it be?

VICKIE IN CHARGE
Just five days after Team Lay-Cool defeated Divas Champion Maryse & Gail Kim at WWE Elimination Chamber, Michelle McCool will invoke her rematch clause to face Women's Champion Mickie James for her title. The match referee will be none other than Official SmackDown Consultant Vickie Guerrero.

What worked:

Edge-Miz. 1st ever meeting is your match of the night. If Miz wasn't already a star, Edge made him tonight. Miz is overexposed, though, and was due for a non-title singles loss.

Money in the Bank qualifiers. CM Punk will not 3-peat, but Kane & Shel Benjamin have fresh chances to pick up the golden ticket, if you will. Dolph Ziggler provides some fresh blood, and it'll be interesting to see how many more advance in the next 4 weeks.

Upside: Drew McIntyre's 1st clean job since his recall. We're not stupid. We remember when Drew came up in '07, so stop pretending it never happened!

Downside: Benjamin's Paydirt finisher on Punk looked a wee bit sloppy, but who's to blame?

In the middle: Edge-Jericho promo. Instant reruns. Who'da thunk? ;) :p :D

What didn't work:

Women's title match (DUH!). I get that it's a political trade-off (UT loses the world title while Me-Chelle gets the women's title back), but this was wrong. Vickie Guerrero telegraphed her intentions a week ago, and this power-drunk widow gets away with it? I don't think so!

This is what MUST HAPPEN NEXT WEEK:

While Mickie's not one to cry over spilled milk, Teddy Long knows a conspiracy when he sees one, so he sets a trap for Vickie. The wicked widow decides that Mickie cannot challenge for the title as long as Michelle has it. Teddy has a big surprise. The Board of Directors reviewed the footage of the title match, and, citing Vickie's deliberate open hand slap to Mickie, have reversed the decision, giving Mickie the match and the title via DQ. Vickie is cited for blatantly abusing her authority, and as a result loses her cushy gig as "consultant". Teddy goes so far as to call her a corporate snitch, and reveals that the Board overruled Vince and took him off probation "some time ago". Now, he's telling Vickie what to do, not the other way around.

Mickie vs. Michelle is redone, with Vickie & Layla both banned from ringside, and Mickie beats Michelle cleanly with the MickieDT.

With Maria having been cut, you now have Mickie as the only female babyface against 6 heels. That is wrong. The imbalance must be corrected, but when?

There are two possible scenarios with Maria.

1. If she gets "fired" by Donald Trump, and returns to WWE within a month of her elimination, then we'll know this was a work layered on top of legit firings (Helms, Burchill, Armstrong).

2. If she goes all the way and wins, then you have the reason why they let her go, still as part of some sort of secret deal between Vince & The Donald.

Meanwhile, Maria and Mickie both have albums coming out in the coming weeks, and neither has had any opportunity to promote them on WWE-TV. I get that Vince might be a wee bit gun shy about that, considering Fozzy can't sell enough in the US, and the latest entrance theme CD, an online-only release at the moment, isn't generating a lot of positive buzz to suit.

Decent Smackdown. I didn't see the main event since it was getting pretty late (thanks a lot NBA) but atleast I got to see Edge's entrance.

Anyways triple threat was decent. It had some spots were it looked like it really hurt. I found this match a losing situation, since Morrison and Ziggler were in it. I would perfer to have both both of them in and drop Kane.

Kane vs McIntyre was pretty boring, and shouldn't have even been a MITB qualifying match.

Why wwe why? Haven't we suffered enough from Michelle McCool's last title reign?

CM Punk vs Shelton Benjamin I liked. It could have been better, and I rather see Punk win then Benjamin. But we couldn't see that because of "big" tough Mysterio had to put his nose where it always never belongs and mess CM Punk up

I'm glad Shelton won personally. I like Punk, but I've always said that Shelton deserves a push and is the best wrestler over the past 5 years or so that has yet to win a world title.

As for the Rey interference, they basically did that to set up a Punk/Rey match at WM with the Hair vs Mask stipulation. I predict a Punk victory in that one.

I agree with you on all but the dropping Kane part. While Kane isn't the greatest worker, he has proven that he can perform well at MITB matches. I thought the Triple Threat was the best match of the show, even better than Edge/Miz.

After Ziggler won the triple threat, I knew that Kane was gonna beat McIntyre (and I'm glad because I feel that Drew is boring and overrated). So now I'm predicting a IC title match with McIntrye defending against Morrison and maybe even Truth in a triple threat match.

Are you mad? That would mean removing a prominent revenue stream (the replica masks must be one of the bigger sellers on the Smackdown brand), and I don't see that happening.

Dolph Ziggler getting that pin reminded me of what Chris Jericho did a few months ago.

No I'm not mad. I just think that Punk deserves a push to go along with the Straight Edge Society storyline. Actually, I'd say he's in dire need of it. The Hair vs Mask match has been rumored since late last year. Whether or not they go that route remains to be seen, but if they do then I don't see Punk jobbing. They could have Rey take a sabbatical after losing at WM, then he can return with the mask.

Rey Rey can still win and push this "Straight Edge Society" storyline.

True, but I think Punk needs to win more. His World Title reigns are viewed as a joke by most critics and fans, and he really hasn't had many signature victories since losing the belt. Rey is tremendously over to the point where nothing will ever damage his credibility.

Something tells me that this Rey/Punk feud is gonna be over a few weeks after WM 26. Kind of like the Rey/JBL feud except Punk isn't gonna leave the WWE :p.

I don't know about that. If booked properly, Rey/Punk could be the most compelling feud in WWE considering how much the fans love Rey and detest the Straight Edge Society. If he succeeds in stripping Rey of his mask (even if it's temporary) he'd get more heel heat than anyone in WWE.

Edge's "spear, spear, spear" promo was painful to listen to. I never want to see that again. Of course if "never" for me means the same as it does for Chris Jericho, we'll hear the promo again next week. Jericho declaring he won't get speared again and then immediately getting speared was disappointing. Seems like that is something that could have been built up.

Very exciting to see Dolph Ziggler get the win in the Money in the Bank qualifier. Hopefully, WrestleMania will be another chance for him to show what he's got. We'll see about I-C Title, but I wonder if Morrison might be the winner of a "last chance battle royal" if they do that this year.

Tough to get tired of that Taker-HBK video. I was disappointed it didn't air on A.M. RAW. ;)

I was really hoping that we might see a Vickie redemption with her helping Mickie, but no such luck. I can't believe the belt went right back to Michelle.

As I said in the Elimination Chamber thread, I don't get who Drew McIntyre is supposed to be or what his new elaborate entrance is supposed to make me feel. Happy to see him knocked down a peg by Kane making MitB.

I liked Miz coming to SmackDown to find a Tag Title challenger, Teddy Long gave him more than he bargained for.

Good to see Shelton Benjamin return to Money in the Bank for another year. Clearly WWE knows they have a talented wrestler here, but he can't seem to get over the "performer" bump. Rey vs. Punk seems to be all but set.

Despite it not being successful, it was a good outing for The Miz in the main event. I thought maybe Edge was left off the Elimination Chamber card because he may not be fully ready until WrestleMania, but he sure looks ready.

and the latest entrance theme CD, an online-only release at the moment, isn't generating a lot of positive buzz to suit.I realize it dropped quickly, but I don't see how it "isn't generating a lot of positive buzz" unless it's because it's on-line only. You got every single hot WWE song that has never been released before. There are a few you could skip, but I don't think you could have asked for much more.

Rey is tremendously over to the point where nothing will ever damage his credibility.A joke by most? Really? I thought his face RAW title reign was a mess, but regardless of length, I was very happy with his two heel SmackDown title reigns. There was some quality stuff in there. Punk's hair is out of control and I don't think WWE wants to make all the tween boys cry by removing Rey's mask.

Not so sure about Morrison and a last-chance battle royal, but Ziggy in Money in the Bank gives them someone fresh already (Kane, Benjamin, & Christian have all been there multiple times, and the latter two just had a ladder match at TLC). No 3-peat for Punk. Meh.

Political trade-off, IMPO, considering Me-Chelle is dating the Undertaker. UT drops the World title at Elimination Chamber, and Me-Chelle gets the women's belt back on Smackdown in a screwjob that was telegraphed in enough time such that you could've had Teddy Long counter Vickie in some form, but the writers have made him look like such a tool, and I hate it.
