It 's this new darker angle they're taking with the show. I'm rapidly becoming a fan. Rika was so adorable when she blushed upon learning that Takato sent her folks e-mail under her name. I wasn't sure whether she'd kiss him or belt him in the jib. "You didn't put little hearts at the end of the message, did you?" (He did.) "Smiley faces? You put smiley faces?!" And Jerri looks closer to a full mental breakdown than ever. Look at her eyes. She practically had to be carried around like an infant, she was so traumatized.

I think season 4's starting this weekend in Japan.... All new group of kids. Goggle Boy, Angst Boy, Nice but Outspoken Girl, Lonely Tot, and the Sempai (older boy)

Digimon Frontier starts April 7th, the final Tamers is this weekend. FET's site will probably have the full episodes up for the final episode and the new season soon, so keep an eye out for that if you like Japanese Digimon!

Mmmm... I should have the last 3 eps on tape soon, in no more than 2 weeks I think...

And here's a pic of 4/5 of the starting line-up for next season. Kouji's probably holding his own pity party.

Hey, do you order it from Megchan or something? I usually Download the episodes and save them to a disk(though I wouldn't mind watching Japanese tamers on my TV though).

Any word on what universe the next season is set in(The same as The tamers or another Alternate) ?

And why are they getting rid of the Tamers, I've actually grown to like them.

SonGoku V3

Well, Digimon Frontier is supposed to be set in an alternate Universe, kind of like how Tamers was SUPPOSE to be. Yeah, you heard me, because if you've been paying attention to Megchan's Digimon board, then you know that the Tamers world is connected to the other worlds including the Digimon Adventure season I believe. How is all of this possible you ask? One name: Ryo Akiyama. The Ryo in Tamers is the same Ryo that helped Ken before he became the kaiser(Digimon Emperor) and it's also the same guy from the manga version of the series. Oh yeah, it's also been recently announced that Sora and Matt DID get married, ending the year long speculation.

Wow! I'm not the only one who thinks that? :o

No, I don't get Digimon tapes from Megchan.

And finally, I'm sorry to say that Tamers ends badly as well.
Takato is a doctor. "Jeri" is a beauty salon owner with a son that looks like Kenta, but it's not stated if she's married to him. Kenta is an airplane pilot and has a little girl that looks like Juri with his hair color. Hirokazu is the owner of a bilingual bookstore. "Suzie" owns a Chinese catering service. Ryou is a janitor. Impmon's Tamers (dunno dub names): The girl works at a daycare center and the boy is working his way up in Japanese government.
"Rika" is a housewife. "Henry" is her husband, an interior decorator who spends all his free time with the government guy (dunno his dub name). Their kids resemble "Rika" and Ryou.

Funny how Henry's kid resembles Ryou!:D I wonder what Rika's been doing while Henry's been gone.;) She's no Yolei/Miyako obviously....

Anyway, Impmon's Tamers are named Mako and Ai, pretty much the same as the original.

Mar, that would be a better ending than the one I've heard about, where they just sort of say, "Well, we're done! Bye!"

Um, no. This time around, the ending is left a little more open-ended, or at least that is what's said on Megchan's. The Digimon go back to the Digital World, but the final scene is Takato rediscovering the portal in Guilmon's old home, hinting that they could come back at any time....

Personally, I like the dub that has been done so far by Saban, but I am still beginning to download the eps over at FET. (and saving them onto a CD disk) As for Season 4, while not as deep as Tamers, it looks to be a ton of fun like Season 1 was. Besides, I am already into Izumi.....

As for the ending, I've gotta say it beats last year by a long shot.

So where's your proof that Takato and "Henry" didn't move to the US as adults and get married? :D

I thought I scented an April Fool's in the air (now you see why I admire her! ;) )...but, still, I wasn't fully sure. They say American TV keeps women down, but I'm inclined to think we permit female characters to live more outside the box here than, say, Japan (taking season two's ending into account). The female characters slipping easily into traditional sex roles, however demeaning it may appear, may be equated there with maturity...still, it'd be nice to see Jerri or Rika become something along the lines of businesswomen, or writers (I''m presuming there are female authors of note in Japan). At least you didn't say Rika followed in her mother's footsteps and became an underwear model...it would have necessitated another change of pants. :o

I think with all that the Digimon kids- boys and girls- go through.... Social norms aren't going to be as important or assumed after all that. And that's the case for most adventure stories, but they are ultimately part of whatever culture or belief system the creator(s) associates with. Even if it makes no sense if Jyou supposedly learns it's ok not to be a doctor, then is shown over the following season studying medicine and eventually practicing it.... The lessons of the DigiWorld aren't as important as what his dad says.

So the lesson is "honor thy father and thy mother"--Japan may not practice fully the Judeo-Christian faith, even if they have some knowledge of it, but I guess it's a universal shibboleth spoken in every religion. I just hope it doesn't get used as an excuse to cheapen Rika as well--she can honor her mother without losing her identity and becoming a little Jon-Benet. As for Jerri., I just hope she survives, period. Still creeped by the way she eyed the antimatter ball, and hoping Rika's backpack getting eaten isn't foreshadowing something even nastier.... :o

I personally think that the way the end of Tamers was handled, they left it open enough to allow people to interpret things the way they wish them to. And believe me, I am not the only one who has thought Juri needs some psychiatric attention after what happens to her by the end of the series. (if you are waiting to see the American version, I will not spoil it)

As for that ridiculous ending to 02, who knows what they were thinking with that. I mean, my biggest complaint was that Miyako, a vibrant, intelligent girl, was turned into a homemaker taking care of the children she had with Ken! Now while I am a firm believer of Daiyako, the part about her being that was what really riled me up. And as for the other parts: Yamato as an astronaut? Taichi a diplomat? Mimi a.....TV cooking host? Sure I got along easily with some of those choices (Takeru as a writer, Iori as a lawyer, maybe Ken as a private investigator, Hikari as a teacher), but that was just the tip of the iceberg. The other complaint I had were that the kids, while cute, looked too much like their parents. It was like they were somewhat cloned or something. That is somewhat why I liked what they did with Tamers: end it not too long after everything is over and allowing us to draw our own conclusions.

RockItShipper

I tend to think that Mimi's more qualified to be ambassador to the Digital World. She and Tai are pretty much equals when it comes to intelligence and niceness, but she's probably fluent in more than one language and has organized non-partner Digimon before.

Bad character design or Sith conspiracy? ;)

I loved the Zero Two ending, mainly because it sort of came full circle. We saw them as children, and in the end we saw them together again as adults with children of their own. That's what I liked about Adventure I guess, those two seasons made me love the characters(more season one than 02). I won't really miss Tamers, I'll only miss Rika/Ruki's character. Everyone else in that showed pretty much bored me.

While I like the way the third season has been going for the most part, how to put this delicately, would someone PLEASE start slapping Jeri? I can understand her being in shock some, but it's starting to get rather annoying and depressing whenever she's on the screen. PLEASE let her snap out of it soon.

No one slaps her, as far as I know. 3 eps left, though.

Takato's yelled at her once. And "Rika" has probably been the most consistently nice to "Jeri". :)

I have yet to see an actual slap...it was implied--whether cut or never there I'm not sure--in a season one ep that Tai's mother smacked him at the hospital after Kari nearly died of pneumonia (his cheek is as red as a babboon's arse)...and today Tai popped Izzy one in the face, although we never hear or see the blow.
Actually striking Jerri might be a bit much, though. At this point she's her own worst enemy.

As for Season 2, it begins on ABC FAM on Wednesday, I think. The season's about fity-odd eps so the arc should take about five or six weeks to play out. It's on at six a.m. though--why can't they kill off Itsy Bitsy Time or something with either the Olsens or Alan Thicke and give it a plum slot?

Tamers cussing--maybe in the original scripts. I'm told only half or so of a draft is actually dubbed, so maybe there are much dirtier written/recorded outtakes. What gets into the show surprises me, actually, like Mimi throwing pink feces at the enemy ("Ew! I touched it!" I see now why she wears gloves....)

But it's called "Digi-sludge", so it's fine. "Ash" seems to be more prone to cursing than the Digimon kids, but there's several reasons for script changes:

1. Mouth movements. Sa-to-shi is too many syllables to be substitued for "Ash", so sometimes things like "What's going on?" are put in its place.

2. Intent and cultural analogies. "Gold coins to cats" is a Japanese saying that gets dubbed as "We're gonna be rich" and things like that. When "Meowth" and "Wobbafett" shout out at the end of the Rocket motto, it's a play on the Japanese word for "That's right".

3. Appropiate dialogue. Pokemon trainers and Cardcaptors can't curse on US tv and kidvideos.

4. Cut footage. Far more common on Digimon as a whole. Pokemon has 2 banned eps and several editted ones, but Digimon usually gets a snip every couple of episodes.

Myotismon had possessed Oikawa and was finally strong enough to leave him and do his own dirty work. For about fifteen minutes everyone makes useless attacks, then light shines from the Digivices of every kid in the world. Myotismon weakens and tries to draw strength from the hopeless kids he kidnapped, but Davis tells them his dream (to own a noodle stand  ) and as they say what they dream about, Myotismon grows weaker. Everyone gives their power to Imperial Dramon and he blows Myotismon away for good. Everything's fixed, except for the mortally wounded Oikawa. He dies in Cody's arms and becomes a protector spirit for the Digital World. Dopey, but okay so far.

After the commercial break comes the horror. We flash forward 25 years to see the kids as adults. The writers didn't do a thorough job destroying the characters they built over 100 episodes, but they sure tried. Remember how Joe was going to seek his own way, instead of following his dad's order to become a doctor? The writers didn't. Fiery Miyako is now a bland housewife, and married to Ken, even though she expressed no interest in him after she met him. Davis's left field noodle stand idea happened, and he's now a multimillionaire because of it. Tai is the ambassador to the Digital World, even though it doesn't have a government. Matt is an astronaut, goodness knows how or why. Everyone has kids that look like clones. It was awful.

For the record, Mimi has a cooking show, Sora designs kimonos, Izzy programs computers, Hikari teaches kinergarten, T.K. writes novels, Cody is a defense attorney, and Ken is a detective.

Yeah, she slapped him in the original. Most cuts are brief snips of fighting, though there are some more extensive cuts. They're real good about white-flashing the actual impact, but there are some fisticuffs that come through relatively uncut. The one that springs to mind is when T.K. punched out Ken. Slo-mo and everything.

The other major edits in season 1 were a bathhouse scene where Tai and Matt hop out of the tub and yank Joe's towel from him; when the kids hitchhiked home and Matt, Mimi, and Sora all got hit on; and the now almost-incomprehensible episode where Puppetmon gave T.K. an Uzi and chased after him with a .44 Magnum, killing two of his own henchmen in the process. In 02 Davis disturbed a very large Digimon while it was relieving itself and got chased - you'll know this one when the Digimon stops chasing Davis and washes his hands. In Tamers, Kazu and Kenta accidentally kissed when Rika got mad at them for oversleeping and kicked them together.
