View Full Version : Why Don't Many Like The Early Episodes Of Bebop?

I know it has less action, and less character development etc., but for some reason these "happy" times of the Bebop are great episodes to me.

I guess it is mostly because after seeing the hell they go through in the later eps, I just like seeing Spike & Jet being good friends, and going after bounty heads. Sure session 5 kicks ass, but after seeing the whole series twice, I feel more fond of these eps now. Session's 1-3 especially.

They are "caper" episodes, so they're more easy to consume on a casual basis. The later ones are more into exploring the characters, so it takes on some teeth that appeals to viewers who are interested in the emotional aspect of the cast.

Some of them just seem a little old to me. Session 2 really got stale to me the first time I saw it. Session 3 I can't put my finger on exactly why, maybe its just that the series is being repeated so much its getting old to me. Session 1 is one of my favorites, along with 5. I hated 4. Some episodes are just better than others.

Some people, like me, are just waiting for Ed.

I never really got into Bebop until Ed came in.

Then, of course, I obsessed.

I like the whole series. That's all I have to say, thank you.

I think it's all good.

I saw Episodes 1-3 and I have no problem with them. I don't know why Episode 3 was called Honky Tonk Women though since there was only one woman.

I think its the best series in the world, but sure some eps are better then others. but #5 is one of the best.

I like the early episodes better than some of the later ones (Boogie-Woogie Feng Shui comes to mind).

For me, it's because I've seen eps. 1-3 about twice as much as the rest of the show (due to having gotten fansubs of these eps about a year before it came out in the US).
I like eps. 1 and 2 a lot - 3 is good, but Faye goes WAY off model in several scenes. For some reason the animation quality in this episode seems poorer than the rest.

Honestly, though, I like all the episodes :)

i like to look at the series as a whole, it let's the fun things happen earlier, then it gets more serious as it goes along. i like the gradient that they chose to use.

I actually like the early episodes a lot more. The lighter, more action packed, jazzy feel of the early episodes just seemed more fun to me. I realize that the early episodes were pretty deriative too, but the film-noir clinched final story arc always kinda bored me.

Because they have nothing to do with with the actual Bebop plot, are full of action, and are constantly introducing new characters, every episode feels like a little movie, and are extremely entertaining. A great way of introducing a new series.

Probably because it was the name of the song by the Rolling Stones. A lot of the titles are either plays on musical terms or actual song titles, so they probably just used the direct title rather than adapting it.

Also, you could say that Faye is like "those kind of women."

You know...Honky Tonk Women...uh...Faye is like them...?

Bah, I give up.

Personally I prefer the first few episodes as well. The later episodes are just too bogged down with overdone melodrama and plain silliness (IMO of course). Plus there's the addition of characters that simply don't appeal to me who unfortunately often steal the show (mostly Ed, but Faye isn't exactly a favorite of mine either). There's a breezy fun sort of quality to the early episodes that seems to get lost along the and they do share a sort action oriented film-noir/western mood. To me, the later episodes start taking themselves way too seriously for what they are. The first arc hooked me, the last arc sent me into such dizzying boredom I lost much of that original interest.

Of course, I'm not really an anime fan by any strench in the first place. So maybe I'm coming from a different perspective. All the flourescent colors (hot pink? neon lime green? why?) sorta get to me too. ;)
