It seems to be the crew for the DCU DTVs would rather have DC Showcase Shorts than Commentaries and Behind the Scenes as special features on the DVDs. What would you rather have?

The DC Showcase shorts are a great idea but I enjoyed the commentaries and their awkward gaps of silence. And there's not much else that can put me to sleep at night anymore. :D
Just kidding. I love commentary. Bring it back.
On the flip side, I wish they'd stop with recycling previews of past DCU movies and the 'comic book' promotions. I don't care about In Blackest Night, I care about this movie that's why I bought it. Interview the director(s), the writers, the storyboarders, the voice actors, tape their appearances at a convention panel and put in the special feature. Wondercon is coming up, so is Comic Con in a few more months.

I'm not sure why we can't have both. I think it is really lame that every movie since GL has not included a commentary track. A making feature would be cool, but I don't even need that. Just a commentary--just some insight. The special features are just so weak, especially the Crisis stuff. I mean...nothing on there has anything to do with the movie.
I wonder if they'll ever divulge why they stopped putting commentaries on the DVDs. I would even buy re-releases if they included commentaries.

Hi,
I love the commentaries tracks on all the DCAU, itīs a lot of fun to hear all the creators talking about the episode/movie, because they have a lot to say about it, and even if the go a little off-topic itīs still fun to hear, as a matter of fact the first commentary that I ever heard was the one on the ROTJ Uncut Version, since then Iīve heard every single commentaries on all the DCAU multiple times and until this day I enjoy them like the first time.
But one thing that Iīve always wanted to know more about is the sound effects, you know the sounds of explosions, punches, the sounds of the gadgets, all that effects, the DVD of Spider-Man 2 has a feature about this and I love it, I wish the DCU DTVs could include a feature about this topic, it would be very interesting to know how the sounds are created.
Also a music feature would be nice, to see the orchestra playing the score, an interview with the composer, how they interact with the rest of the crew, I would love to see more about this part of the developmentof the movie.
Later...

It would be good to see commentaries return, as they have been well worth listing to, in the past.
But first we need the return of all extras, for the DVD special editions. There is more than enough room, if they dropped the bonus episodes. I'm really tired of the Blu-Ray exlusive extras.

Alan Burnett said (http://www.mania.com/batmans-red-hood-revealed_article_120513.html) they got bored with doing them and the behind the scenes because "people have been seeing us do it forever" so they opted to do the DC Showcase instead. I personally would rather have the commentary.

If there had to be a choice between Showcase or commentary, I'd pick Showcase but I'd really like to have them both. I really like the casts and crew and like hearing their insights and all but I'll take new animation over that pretty much any day. Recycling Behind The Scenes featurettes is a pretty scummy practice imho. The Digital Copys are also a waste of space personally. If a two disc release doesn't have significant special features just stick the essentials on one disc and call it a day, instead of teasing a guy like me that's feature hungry.

Really crappy Motion Comics that are based on appropriate comics, chosen with whatever process has them choosing their DCAU episodes. By 'really crappy,' I mean it's just a comic with the camera panning from panel to panel, with sound effects and dialogue.
While I don't benefit from the DCAU eps, as I own them all on DVD, I think those are a GREAT extras. I also LOVE the new Showcase shorts, as new material is always a great bonus feature.
I would also like to see some DCAU shorts appear as bonus features on movies where the DCAU staff are heavily involved.
Besides this, I want the commentaries back. I hate previews of the already-released movies being a primary feature. Aside from the next movie, those should just be under a 'trailers' feature.
As for things like Blackest Night, I only liked it on GL because it was very relevent. The same one should never be repeated.

I would love to see Batman: Black and White (http://www.thewb.com/shows/batman-black-and-white-motion-comics/) as an extra feature. Maybe even on Under the Red Hood. I really like how they turned out.

Love the idea of DC Showcase!
I also enjoyed the commentaries, but yes, the "talking head" behind the scenes weren't all great. Unless they did a moderated panel discussion (like they did on JLU with Mark Hammil).
However, if we aren't going to see more JL seasons in Blu Ray anytime soon, at least make the episodes they put on these in high def!

I too would like to see the commentaries return. And I hate the "Bonus" episodes. They're always DCAU, which I already have on DVD anyway. Put other stuff on there, like old "Superfriends" episodes, or "Static Shock" or just stuff that hasn't been seen in a long time, or at all.
Stuff I'd like to see:
-Side by side view of the animation and the Voice actors doing the performance. They always show quick snippets of it in previews, but I'd love to see a whole scene with a camera on a voice actor or two.
-"Fake" outtakes. I love outtakes, and I know it's hard to do it in animation, but I'd love it if they did some "scripted" poorly dubbed/cut "outtake" scenes where Batman and Superman are talking about the coffee they had that morning or something. It could be hilarious. If some random kids can do it on youTube, the real production team can do it on the DVDs.
-Art galleries with Story boards and model Sheets. Anime does this all the time, and I see no reason why western DVDs can't. As an art buff, I'd love to see all the model designs and artwork in a high quality gallery. Instead of just pausing the preview from the last DVD, or scouring the internet.
-Deleted scenes. "Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker" did a good job of displaying some deleted Story board scenes. By showing the storyboards as the voice work was played over it. I know that on animated movies, scenes are rarely cut, but if they ARE, they should be on the DVD.

 I had no idea those even existed. Too bad I can't view

This is what every DC Universe DTV DVD Feature Special Edition should consist of:
1. The main animated "Feature" itself.
2. A "Behind-The-Scenes/Making Of" featurette with interviews of the creators (producers, directors, animators, etc.) and the voice actors discussing the production of feature film and showcasing the various stages of the story and animation from character design sketches to scripting and storyboards to soundtrack scoring to the final edit.
3. A "Retrospective Look" at the source material which inspired making the feature, such as the original comic book story and the characters involved, with interviews of the creators (writers, artists, publishers, etc.) of the comic books and the producers of the feature discussing the relevancy of the story, the characters and their history.
4. A "First Look" at the next upcoming DTV DVD Feature.
5. A bonus "DC Showcase" short animated feature spotlighting a random character from the DC Universe.
6. The obligatory "Trailers" of other DC animated features.
I can live without the voice-over commentary and the bonus Bruce Timm picks of past episodes of DC shows like Justice League Unlimited, etc., but I think the items I listed above are necessary for a 2-Disc Special Edition DVD or Blu-Ray.
