Hey all. Been playing Baldur's Gate for the first time, and it's a lot more fun that I thought it would be. I originally expected just an SSI-like no-story AD&D game with a gimmicky overhead point of view. But it's actually drawing me in. Sure, the game moves as slow as molasses, but it's fun.

Anyway, I think I missed out on my chance to kill Drizzt. I made the mistake of talking to him after helping him, and he left the screen. Whoops. I could have used those scimitars of his. But I hear he's tough. Anyone here manage to kill him?

Next time through, I'll just play the game through as Artemis Entreri. ;) (For you Drizzt fans out there)

BTW--Is this the right forum? It *is* "media", which is the subject I tend to think what this forum is suited for.

Never played the game...but I have read The Icewind Dale trilogy...and there's a Dark Elf named Drizzt who's a good guy.

I like Drizzt.

After discussion, we decided that games were suitable for this forum. No problem posting this here.... :)

killing Drizzit is not possible. he's this super munchkin with a sword on each hand and 95% resistant to magic and some other ridiculously stats. Forgotten Realms is a breeding ground munchkins.

Yep, the same guy. And in the first book, you remember he finds a sword he names Icebrand. Or Defender. Or something.

You can get that sword in the game if you manage to kill him. (Even though killing him is probably not what the game wants you to do) ;) And the other sword he has as well.

Oranthal, you CAN kill him. There are cheapo ways of doing it, but it is possible. If I ever get to do it, I'll post it here. But it'll probably be months before I play this game through again...

Now...back to playing my sweet lovely Branwen. Du--I mean Balder's Gate. :D

Yup, killing Drizzt is possible... if you scan www.gamefaqs.com, you can find codes that will generate a hostile Drizzt for you to grapple with. I could never beat him, myself...

If you like Baldur's Gate, you'll love Baldur's Gate II. It's a lot deeper without being overwhelming, the storyline is better, the NPCs have more dialogue (especially Minsc: "The butts of evildoers await my bootprint!"), and Drizzt returns... with the rest of the Icewind Dale Trilogy party!

Yup, I bought Baldur's Gate 2 along with its expansion pack yesterday, even though I haven't finished number one yet. I gave 2 a little spin to see how it ran on my chug-a-lug, and I'm sorry I did...I just can't wait to dig into it now! Right off the bat, it promises to be much more story driven, with the same unique engine that made the first so good...

Oh well. I'll treat number one as my little picaresque adventure and keep playing it exclusively for now, as I wander around and right wrongs, kill people who have treasure I want, and steal wonderous weapons and gold from people's houses...

This is shaping up into one hell of a trilogy.

Drizzt rules all.
