Yay, two new episodes! Somebody likes me.

While the China arc wasn't bad, it looks like this one will blow it out of the water. Seth, the parents, Japan, an amnesiac Sheer, confused identities--a lot is going on here.

You know, while I'm glad it didn't happen (nor did I ever fear it would) I wonder what this episode would look like if it had been handled by 4Kids circa 2003, cause this episode is like Japanese Cultural Reference Mecca. And yet the only thing that was really altered (I think), was Kusanagi no Tsurugi's (the sword found inside Orochi) name.

Also, I repeat my long-standing objection to 4Kids' practice of not crediting non-regular cast-members. There's a bunch of new characters in this arc, and Tokugawa aside, I have no idea who any of their VA's are. It's frustrating! Particularly since the credits they do have now are outdated (as evidenced by the fact that they're still creditting Maddie Blaustein).

I can tell you who most of them are from listening today. I know I heard Rachael Lillis, Bella Hudson, Sean Schemmel, and Mike Pollock. No new actors of note.

Speaking of which, it seems Maddie Blaustein's roles are starting to be replaced at this point. Her main-villain-whose-name-I-can't-recall is replaced by Sean Schemmel, and her Dr. Drake has been replaced with Mike Pollock. Appropriate, I suppose, considering he also voices his "doppleganger" the Shogun. I'm wondering why she didn't play those characters anymore but continued to play Helga. Perhaps she recorded all of her Helga lines at one time and passed away before she could record lines for the others?

Wait..."main-villain-whose-name-I-can't-recall" who's NOT Helga? In this show or another one? If it's the latter, are you referring to Huntik's Rassimov?

Actually, Wikipedia has been crediting Mike Pollock as both Helga and Dr. Drake for a while now--at least since this season began. I find it easier to believe that Pollock (who was the one actor I recognized today, in both roles--hard not to) has been playing the role with some voice modification (particularly since it's not a particularly hard voice to imitate) than to think that Maddie was that much ahead in her recordings before she died. On the other hand, they've been crediting Mike Pollock with Mrs. Drake as well, and that seems obviously wrong.

By the way, how does one recognize "new actors of note" if they're not credited?

And while we're on the subject: Space pirates. My gut tells me Marc Diraison for Gavro, and Marc Thompson for Foolscap. Still no clue who does Sheer, although I have an inkling that it may be Rebecca Soler, since the voice reminds me a bit of her Misty Treadwell/Lola, and plus, she's just in every NY dub these days.

I'm referring to the leader of the space pirates, who was previously played by Maddie. And I wouldn't really consider Helga a villain, but I suppose that's up for debate. :p

Wikipedia also lists Darren Dunstan as Xander when it's clearly Sean Schemmel.

Pretty sure that was Maddie as Helga. Even with voice modification, I doubt Mike could imitate her voice that flawlessly.

What I meant was I think most of the new characters in this arc are being played by regular actors (Lillis, Pollock, etc.)

That's what Wikipedia says, but as mentioned, you can't always trust them. I'd say you're right, though. They say Sheer is played by Bella Hudson, but I dunno.

Actually, that was it--I edited it not too long ago. They previously had David Wills for Gavro (plausible) and Ted Lewis for Foolscap (not plausible).

It could be that they wanted to go with a different voice for those characters, but I agree that it's most likely because Maddie recorded her lines for Helga before her sad passing. I hope that's the case since I would like to hear her performance as Helga continue through the rest of this season.

I thought that the two new episodes were pretty good. I was glad that we finally saw the parents again since it feels like they haven't shown up in a long time. Having Zoey's dad escape and take the Shogun's place was a nice idea too. I didn't think that Seth would be with the Space Pirates, but considering that the Cosmo Stones give them the ability to control time, it does make sense. I kind of wish that we knew about the power of these stones earlier since it would have explained why they were so important earlier and possibly given Max and his friends more determination to beat the pirates. Still, they were nice episode and I'll be happy to watch another hour of Dinosaur King next weekend.

I cannot believe no one has mentioned this yet.

The scene where some female ninjas were teaching Shear what a Kunoichi means.

The kanji for Kunoichi, all that Japanese stuff.

Remember, this was a company that edited kanji for most of their shows, and now, they not only keep it, but also teach a Japanese word.

Someone should give MAJOR kudos on 4Kids for this.

Um, I did, in post two--and then Dubbs made his talkback post and the comment got lost in the shuffle.

I REALLY doubt Sheer's played by Bella Hudson. Wikipedia claims weird stuff all the time. It also claimed Bella Hudson's Erica Schroeder (it doesn't say that now), but I don't know if it's true or not.

It's important to remember that all these episodes were dubbed late 2008, early 2009, so there is still the chance that Maddie voiced some of the characters before passing on.

That also explains why they're premiering 2 new episodes from now on.

What they need to remake is DinoSaucers

That and they premiered all these episodes on Jetix UK last year. In fact the final episodes were premiering over there at the same time the first of the final season were premiering here.

Okay, currently seeing the second episode, and...the feed keeps screwing me over. It cutted to an infomercial!

Anyone else having these problems?

EDIT: Okay, it's back...on commercial. Great.

These episodes were full of great lines (that I'm unable to recall completely):

Rex (after door opens): "That did not just happen. Did that just happen?"

Max and Rex's dad:
"Ah, nothing like a game of catch!"
"There's nothing more fun or distracting!"

Max's mom as they sneak through ductwork: "Wow, I've never seen this side of you before."
Rex's mom: "Yes, I'm not usually much of an adventurer. Oh, you mean my rear."

Max: "Foolscap! What do you want?!"
Foolscap: "I'll give you three guesses: a breakfast sandwich, a group hug, or the Cosmos Stone."

Whoever wrote these episodes needs to write for more 4Kids shows.

Yup. If it happened to you, I'm guessing it's CW Puerto Rico's feed in particular that's having the problem. Bugger.

ETA: My favorite part on either episode was when Gavro brought in a Chinese monk to open the cave door--excellent callback, and a laugh-out-loud gag.

I wasn't listening closely last week, but my suspicions were confirmed this week. Maddie's Helga voice has finally been replaced by (I believe) Mike Pollock.

I thought today's episodes were good, especially the second ending. It was funny that Zoe knew all along that Max and Rex weren't gonna be Zahrah's girlfriend. I also noticed she cried when Max was falling in the quick sand.

Zahrah certainly like to kiss people. The thing is, at the end, they knew his name was Alladdin. Did he ever reveal that?

So Shear got her memory back or something? I wonder how she got it back?

I was annoyed by Helga this week, mostly because she just suddenly goes down to where the Alpha Gang is and the first thing she notices are that they're dirty?!

Um, really?

Also, by the way, the animators kinda screwed up on Zahrah's kiss on Max, because it looked like he got kissed on the lips...anyone find that odd? And yes, she kisses a bit too much, she even kissed Zoey on cheek at the end. She needs to learn what a hug and a handshake is.

I agree. I thought that was kinda dumb.

The Zoey's kiss was a bit akward. I was like okayyy.
