Worst Youtube Reviewers

James Rolfe unleashed a monster.

When he started doing his Angry Video Game Nerd reviews, he hit on formula that works. Maybe it was the humor. Maybe it was the geekiness of the subject matter. Maybe his audience just likes to hear cursing, but whatever it was he became very popular.

And with popularity comes imitators. Pale imitators. Suddenly everyone with a Web cam thought they were so damn hilarious they could review old games, pop culture, comics or anything else. There are exceptions that buck this trend and come up with something new, including (insert your favorite here), but there were also a lot who simply copied the nerd's cursing, hyperbolic criticism of easy targets and stupid skits formula, either wholesale or with maybe one half-hearted twist.

The worst I've seen in this sea of garbage is definitely Game Dude.

Game Dude makes no secret of being inspired by the Angry Video Game Nerd and often rips off some of the same topics. He also rips off the cursing but he overdoes it to a hilariously childish degree and in such a strange way that it almost sounds like alien profanity. I believe he reviewed Chameleon Twist Two simply to have the opportunity to say "Chameleon on Piss Poo" on the web. Lines like "This game is pieces of asses" or "That just blows monkey farts" make him sound like an alien tourettes sufferer trying to learn English. He's got an annoying voice. His knowledge of games, even the ones he's reviewing for a given episode, is suspect at best. And he's a complete biased fanboy.

But there are certainly other bad ones out there. Which ones do you think are the worst? It might be okay to mention people who review other things than games, I wasn't sure where to post this but figured this board was best because the Nerd made the trend explode.

Granted he's kind of inspirational, fighting obesity through his life and finally becoming thin, but he can't review worth a darn. He has a speech impediment, probably caused by autism, which causes him to frequently repeats phrases ("I mean", "you know", "like") and stutter. Not exactly what I want to hear when I watch a video game review.

Oh, it's possible. Remember that one time the Nerd said something about how he would "rather have a buffalo take a diarrhea dump in my ear" than play a certain game? Game Dude makes a point of making a similar reference in each review, sometimes several of them, and most of them incredibly bizarre ones about things like diseased zebra penis. He also just seems to think that he has to curse more if he wants to be like the Nerd. Watch some of his reviews if you can stand them and you'll see.

Too many of the reviewers simply review games that they truly hate and so the reviews are done out of pure anger, while AVGN actually ENJOYS a lot of the games he plays. Yeah, he may not hate the difficulty but its not like he despises the games themselves.

I agree I never liked Jedite he just trys so hard to get more views just by mindless swearing all the time and I never got why loads play really bad games and just play them badly on purpose. They is at least some good You tube Reviewers HalfBlindGameris good and just does videos on Cdi games and plug and Play systems and never go crazy with mindless unfunny swearing either.

Man, that's awful. The one I watched had a Puddle of Mudd theme song, which kind of set the unfortunate tone.

Acidonia is completely right that the bad ones seem to intentionally play poorly so they can have excuses for "frustrated" outbursts. I've played some of the games they've reviewed and they aren't all that hard or frustrating unless you go out of your way to play poorly.

I can't presume that everyone relates to him, but when he does display anger, he's the exaggeration of a disgruntled kid who overpayed (for rent or keep) for a lousy/difficult game and experienced nothing but disappointment.

For those that would get fairly angry when struggling with the game, we see James taking that frustration and making it something to laugh at.


Another factor is that James didn't start the AVGN for popularity. He mentioned a few times that his Castlevania 2 and Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde review were gags done on behalf for his friends.

Other game reviewers on the otherhand seem to be doing it for popularity first and foremost.

If I understand it correctly, navgtr is a bunch of unintentionally wacky old tapes from the 90s. It's not a retrograming thing, those were reviews of then contemporary games. People found them and added commentary and things.

The worst Youtube review I ever saw was two guys in their 20,s calling Sonic 1 and 2 the worst game ever. What makes it more sad is they did a reply video on it just insulting the people who gave them nasty emails over it but only responded to silly curse laden troll ones.

That first link you posted Batmex is a joke video the guy who created it Guru larry used to post videos on Screw attack he now posts them on that guy with the glasses and his Videos even aired on UK tv on a now Dead Video Game Chanel called Xleague tv later renamed to Pluse.

It's really sad when two people say Fire Emblem sucks simply because they don't grasp the whole point of Strategy games or RPGs. In fact, I won't be surprised if they gave a game a good review and yet still piss people off because they said something ignorant. These two are a prime example of what a poser is.

I think these bad reviewers don't deserve the exposure they're going to get out of this thread, but I'll throw in a few anyway:

Ebeeto or something like that: Despite the video titles he dosen't even review games, he just plays with his mommas camera and says things like ""*** cat!". His fans are nutty too.

Filmnstuff: Not the worst, but hes one of the few bad ones I remember, he was good until he became more of a bland AVGN wannabe.

(Forgot his name but dosen't deserve to be metioned): There was some reveiwer that did a review of one of those consoles that plays SNES, Genesis, and NES games who abused tags and threw in a loooooong intro in the begining of what was a somewhat informitive video coupled with bland unfunny jokes, and to boot he can't stomach criticism.

Personally, i miss playitbogart. He actually was funny, and used satire, but then youtube deleted all his vids and he moved to revver, and hasnt updated since 2008.

Yeah, I notice most of the game reviewers that were good have either moved on from youtube, had their videos deleted and gave up, or just don't bother anymore.

Here are some bad ones:

Irate Gamer: I don't think any introductions are necessary.

Game Dude: I'll admit his theme song is quite catchy, but his reviews are terrible. His voice is so monotone, and he pronounces "dragon" like "draygun".

NC17: Excessive cursing that makes AVGN sound clean, and he complains about a game without even getting past the first level. I think "City Connection" is a classic.

PissedOffAngryGamer: He sounds like a Russian robot, and he thinks GameCube discs look like chocolate chip cookies. Also, how childish is ShitCube?

It's like they didn't even get the point of the game in the first place, nor give it some slack since it's a Wii game and thus not as powerful as a PS3 or 360.
