View Full Version : Announcement: See Ya All Soon!

Well...this is it. I can't believe I'm typing this post. This is something I'd never thought I'd have to do in my four years of modding of my World's Finest boards. Today is my last "full day" at Toon Zone and World's Finest. As many of you know from my previous announcement (http://forums.toonzone.net/showthread.php?s=&threadid=22069), I'll be taking a hiatus from this site for a little while. An oppurtuunity came up that I could not pass up, and a big sacrifice had to me made. You have no idea how hard it was to make this choice. This place was apart of my daily life. I based my schedules around it. I fell into a pattern that will be hard to break. I have grown so used to everyone here. There are so many amazing people here. Smart. Intelligent. Geniuses, even. Creative. Kind. Unforgettable.

Over the past fours years since I first put up these boards, they have been constantly evolving, with more and more fans finding these boards. They are undeniably the best board son the net. I know of no other board where a simple dissagreement is resolved without a flame war erupting. Respect is a big part of these boards, and almost all of you share that for everyone else. There are a couple bad eggs, but those are easily dwarfed by the great folks this place has. The diversity of people continues to astonish me here.

I never thought these boards would ever get this big and important when I put them up in 1998. I never dreamed we'd see the likes of John Delaney, Min S. Ku, Jason Hall, Paul Storrie, Terry Beatty, Dwayne McDuffie, Dan Slott, Bruce Timm, and so many others grace these boards. This proves to me these are the best board. A board where fan's thoughts and opinions are taken seriously and are enjoyed by those whose work we enjoy. Name me another board where we have regular interaction with some of the most creative and interesting people in the business? As far I know, there aren't any others on the scale that we have it. And we have it becuase of all of you. You folks brought these people in. Your smart and intellectual discussions are irrestible. Plus, these boards are pretty addictive...:)

Now, I'm sure alot of you are worried that I'll never be back. Well, don't worry. I'll still be here, but behind the scenes. Don't be surprised to see some 'edited by Jim Harvey' notes on the posts :). I'll just be scaling back my work considerably for a little while to focus on my current task at hand. I won't be doing the news on a daily basis anymore, but I will still be doing the news, dropping in every once and awhile to give all of ya some big interviews, news, and events.

One thing I'm going to miss the most is just talking. Talking about the Batman episode that airs tonight. Or how awesome Spider-Man will rock. Or how Flash needs more screen time. Or just everyday things we discuss. These boards are just so amazing becuase we touch upon what's import to us. Not what's controversial at the moment, or something ridiculous, but something we enjoy. We share here. And I love that aspect. We share out opinions and we're not criticized for it. We have so much to share, and it shows. New posts pop up almost every minute here. New discussions are started and last for months. We, for the most part, always have something interesting to say, and I love that. We share the likes, but at the same time out taste varies, and we accept it. That is just so amazing to see on an internet message board. Most boards resort to drivel, but these boards have kept a level of excellence for four years, somethingno other board (to my knowledge) has done. And it's becuase of you folks and the amazing mods that keep watch over these boards.

Before you thank me, thank yourselves. Give yourselves a pat on the back. You folks deserve it more than I do. You folks are the blood of this board, I just try to keep it pumping. I would like to thank a few key people. Brian & Harley for bailing me out and giving me a place to stay, here at TZ. I'd also like to thank them for putting up with my crap:). For Maxie for being the better of us two. A man who's intelligence, common sense, kindness contues to astonish me. For Nightwing, Bird Boy, Mad Hatter being the best mods I've ever worked with. For The Flash for so thoughtful - thanks, bro. And last but not least, For RobinIII who helped create the site you see today and for being a genius. And to all of the vets who have stuck with this site for the past 4 years though the dizzying highs and horrible lows. And for everyone who posts here and contributes meaningful discussions to the discussions. Thank you all.

I have no regrets here. I would never go back and do something differently over. Everything here is a learning experience, and I have learned from all of my mistakes. I can honestly say that at the end of every day, I smile when I think of this place. While times do get rough here, I never wish that I was doing something else, or never created these boards. I am always thankful I have them and have been able to reach to everyone from across the world.

Well, my eyes are tearing up so I better end this before I short cicuit the keyboard. I will be back, I promise you that. I have complete faith in the crew here and I know they will do their best. I ask everyone to just be their best. Don't start any crap and just respect each other.

I'll see you all real soon.

There's a lot that could be said, but the only thing I'm gonna say, and it's probably on the behalf of everyone, is a big, heartfelt Thank You. Do us posters deserve thanks for keeping things going smooth? I guess so, but all that wouldn't be possible if it weren't for the tone and personality you imparted on the board and all the work you've put into it.

*sniff* it's gonna be weird around here without you. :( But it's good to know you'll be back.

I wish you great luck for your newspaper internship, even though you probably don't need it ;). Make us all proud!

You will be missed. The boards will take an a completely different life without you. This seems like the end of an era or at least a television series finale with a spinoff featuring different characters appearing next season. I'll miss your guiding prescence on these message boards.

Jim Harvey,

Although I've only been on these boards for a very short time, your positive influence and intellect have been keenly felt by me. I wish you the best in your professional endeavors. Hope to see you around the boards again soon! :)

Jim,

You set the standard.

You're right, there are no boards out there that are as large; that have drawn so many great posters (and lurkers); that have kept so many veterans and drawn so many newbies; and that have done so for so long.

And the credit must go to you. You created the atmosphere and set the tone: Warm, encouraging, enthusiastic. And whenever it teetered, you were always there to right it. Creator and sustainer: You were the necessary man.

I know I speak for the other mods (who will be along to add their own farewells) when I say that it's a big pair of shoes you leave behind, and that everything we know we learned from watching you. It's the question we ask ourselves, and will continue to ask ourselves when there's a crisis or an opportunity: What would Jim do here?

Good luck, Godspeed, and hurry back.

:)

As far as these boards are concerned, I really dont think you know just how great a service youve provided over the last 4 years. these board are really what the internet is all about, and since you started these boards you really are responsble for brightening the lives of so many people across the glob.

THANKS, you the man! PEACE! :D

"Parting is such sweet sorrow."

I have two feelings about your hiatus, Jim- I'm happy that you have an oppurtunity to be an intern at a newspaper, but I'm sad that you won't be around as much. These boards just won't feel the same without your presence on a regular basis, but it's wonderful to know that you'll still browse the boards occasionally. :) Best wishes, Jim.

Even though I just joined these boards last December, I have been visiting this site regularly since the beginning. And it is, without a doubt, the best site around. I would like to say a big "thank you" to you, Jim. Because, without you, all of this would have been impossible. Your hard work and dedication is greatly appreciated.

You will be missed a great deal while your away. :( It will feel very different discussing the Batman and Superman episodes--and just about everything else we talk about-- without you.

I know you'll probably be very busy, but I hope you find time to stop by these boards as often as you can. :)

And again, congratulations on the internship. I know you'll do a great job. :)

Well DG, the boards just won't be the same without you here every day watching over them from you perch high atop Gotham... I mean Toon Zone. I'll have to get my internship in journalism next summer and I know how important it is to get a good one. We all know you'll do a fantastic job and they will no doubt want to hire you as soon as you're done.

Just be sure to come vote for you favorite BTAS episode... we need the help. :D

Jim, I'm English - I'm not a man who likes to compliment or massage someone's ego - but I must say your diligence to this board has been a partial factor which has kept me here for so long.

Through frivolity and angst, you have a noticeably stable factor throughout and - while I HATE making people feel appreciated (it's just not me..) - your effort has made this board what it is now.

I hope this vocational move proves it's worth. If not, what the heck - this is your home from home. You'll always have this place to come back to..

Actually, as comparisons go, that seems a rather poor reward..

Step back from the stage with pride and move on...

The "scrambled/poached" quip was a lighthearted attempt at poking fun at the "bad egg" comment from Jim's initial post. Next thing ya know I'll be censored from the Justice League portion of the board.

The Flash
03-23-2002, 08:26 PM
Oh, yes, that bad egg comment was so easy to remember! Gee, I feel so stupid for not remembering. :p

Maybe if you had replied with a quote or something... Honestly, DG said a lot in that "inital post." I bet nobody remembered the bad egg comment when they came across your post.

Now, back on topic! :)

Hey, sorry to see you go, but don't worry, Journalism ROCKS! I know you'll love it. (Just try not to be too liberal for this Conservative guy, eh? I know you probably wouldn't be, but you never can tell with the media :D

ATTENTION, THAT LAST STATEMENT WAS A HUMOR ATTEMPT THAT ONLY PARTLY REFLECTED MY FEELINGS! DON'T FLAME ME! :D

Anyway, I'm sure that you will have a good time at your new job, and I know your succesors are going to have a hard time filling your shoes. But to you guys that are replacing him in some of his duties, if there's still too big a gap, you can always count on me to fill it in. I know you'll be back eventually, but It's going to be weird here without you. You've done some amazing work here over the years: bringing us great interviews and news and creating the best forum on the internet for discussing everything from what we do on our spare time to Batman to what Batman does on his spare time. And you're going to be working at a newspaper. Are you sure you aren't Superman?
Anyway, we'll try not to burn the place down while you're gone, but I can't promise we'll succeed. Best of luck to you, Jim, and I hope to see you around soon.

If your work here shows anything, you're gonna show those guys how journalism should be done! I've always been amazed by your ability to get news stories done so quickly and from so many various sources, as well as moderating the boards and keeping us all in track :p , as well as still having time to watch and talkback about all sorts of movies and shows. Hopefully they won't have you too busy to miss out on JL, 24, and us too much!

It'll be quite different with you on hiatus, but I'm glad to know you're still gonna be around! Ciao for now DG/JH!

Back when i first joined, i had this idea that you were the number one man on the boards. Not just because you ran the place, but because you really made these boards your own. All the hard work, effort, and pride you poured into this place really showed, and brought a wonderful kind and homely feel to it.

After i gained a little more experience, i realized that all that was true, but you were just a regular guy. You never put up some God complex, even though deep down i think you know everything you've done. You've always made these boards feel like a home away from home, not just because of what you did, but because of who you are.

I'm not going to go so far to say that the other posters had nothing to do w/ the success. I know that we'll continue to be one of the greatest sites on the net. But we sure as hell couldn't have gotten here without you. And it will never be quite the same with you gone.

And i think that i've been around long enough to know that this isn't the end of your time here.

You'll be back.

And we'll eagerly await seeing a post from our good 'ol friend Dick Grayson.

I'll see you around, Jim :) .

I'd like to say I know you'll be back full time someday, but I wouldn't mean it because that would be contradictory to my true wishes for you which are that you succeed in your endevors in the field of journalism. But I know that you'll always be dedicatated to this sight, and when you're a star reporter or an editor of a major publication it will be a comfort to know you'll still be a part time poster, and hopefully part time mod here at Toon Zone. One thing I've always admired about you, Jim, is your patience in dealing with the countless bumps this site runs into every day. When things get rough and it would be much easier to employ a bad attitude, you adopt a good one and you get others hooked. I've been to boards where the head honcho has let the power go to his head, but there is no hint of that here. You run a good ship that I'm glad to be a part of, and I think about that every time I post. There's no doubt you'll go far in your journalistic venture and it'll be great when you're able to join us again.

Kinda late getting to this, but here goes. I was just searching the net late one night in June and found these message boards on the Toonzone main page. I got intrested, signed up, and here we are. Jim, you've put together quite possibly THE BEST site for animation, comics, movie, etc. news and talk out there. Jim "Dick Grayson" Harvey created the Superman and Batman/BB boards in September 1999. (Amazing -- has it really been that long?) His friend E. Nygma built a website around it then passed it on to DG and Robin III. Their mutual efforts produced the World's Finest (http://wf.toonzone.net) website. DG has been operating it mostly alone for over a year now, fine-tuning it into the superior site you see today. Truly a labor of love. To our Fearless Leader, all the best. Good luck with this appointment, DG! Err, I guess I should start calling you Jim now, maybe? Nah, I think I'll stick with DG :)

I came to this site last summer searching for Batman episodes on VHS, and funnily enough, a few days before I created my SN, the first rumblings about Batman appearing on DVD were heard :/ It's a strange world.

I haven't had the time to post here that much since I began university, but still come in from time to time to check the news and the boards. So my thanks go to you because this site wouldn't be here without your hard work! See you soon, after a successful run at your newspaper :)
