What did you think about this issue? I loved it. Theres was like a 10 page battle with Doc Ock! At the end for a second I actually thought he was going to let Doc Ock fall :D

I'm planning to pick this up, because:

A) Paul Jenkins rocks at the single issue stories.

B) I'm a poker fanboy.

C) I'm interested to see how the Kingpin figures in, given the massive beating he took from DD a while back.

You know, for a single-issue story that had no real action and didn't really expand on Spidey's new abilities except for his spider-sense, this issue kicked ass. It had real good comedy and with everything being so emo in the MU in books like THE AVENGERS and MK: SPIDER-MAN, it was nice to have a few good laughs.

This issue had it's moments. I liked the proposal that Kingpin made to the heros whe he arrived. I also liked his reaction to Spiderman winning. Overall this was a good issue.

I thought this was a fun single issue. Not the best, but it shows alot of strenghts in Jenkin's writing. The character interaction was great and the art was pretty good, as well. While maybe we could have seen more of the actual poke game I was really happy with the final result. After the past six months of "The Queen" this was a total escape from that. Exactly what the book needed.

This issue was pretty darn good. Loved the character interaction. Honestly, why can't the major story arcs be this good?

I noticed something. On the last issue page, it stated that Spidey's new powers were organic webbing, an enhanced spider-sense, and increased muscle mass. Does that mean he's stronger now? We were expecting one new power, but we get three!

I didn't like this issue. It proves that Paul Jenkins just ignores what's going on in the rest of the Marvel universe. What's happened to you, Paul?!!?

Hello?!!? KINGPIN'S IN JAIL!!! The pages of Daredevil have shown him in jail! Matt Murdock is the new Kingpin.

And Angel says, "Prof. Xavier sends his regards." Hello?!!? Xavier's in Genosha, away from the rest of the X-men!!! He's not around to give his regards!!!

If they had actually explained these things a tad bit better, I wouldn't have minded. This is why continuity is important people!!! Totally ruined the issue for me...

Actually, Angel is supposed to be in Genosha with Professor X (although it hasn't happened yet in Excaliber.)

*Edit* Just finished reading this. Maybe it was the witty interplay; maybe it was that I've been into poker lately; maybe it's just that the Black Cat was "working it"...all I know is that this was a lot of fun. I actually laughed out loud several times so loud that my wife came in from the other room to see what was going on. This is what stand-alone issues should be all about.

Oh yeah, Another continuity botch:

Angel has been seen dating Husk over in the pages of the Xbooks. Yet here, it's not just the Black Cat flirting with him, he's flirting right back! What a slime! He's two timing Husk! What's that? Paul Jenkins didn't bother to pay attention to what's going on over in the X books? Gee, who would've thought it!

Isn't Daredevil Marvel Knights? That means events in that book are in a seperate continuity, as long as Marvel feels like it, at least.I really enjoyed this issue. No big exciting twists or anything, but it was fun.

This was a fun issue. It did make me laugh aloud, not hysterically but kinda chuckle to myself. The issue was a really good one and one of the better one shots I've read. But they're only be 7 more issues until the end. So, I'll enjoy what I can.

I though Husk and Angel called it off? I know this happened during the poorly-written Austen era of Uncanny X-Men so no wonder it's a confusing mess. I know the couple had an argument at one point in the series but when Austen moved over to X-Men I don't think it was followed up.

No big exciting twists or anything, but it was fun. I thought Marvel Knights was in continuity. The MK banner just meant the stories were a bit more "mature" than the regular Universe titles. Wolverine is really steeped in continuity right now and seems to be tieing into other the Marvel Universe titles.

Last time I checked they were still together. If your referring to that argument that they had during "She lies with Angels", it caused them to become even closer.

I thought it was an interesting way to show that he is willing to help his enemies when necessary.

This issue didn't really do what I was hoping it would. It didn't flesh out Spidey's new powers. I'm still kinda confused about the extent of his new spider-sense(was he reading minds at the beginning or just sensing emotions?). Also, it was beginning to sound like he was regreting being a smart-ace during his fights. I hope this doesn't signal an end to the wise-cracking aspect of Spider-Man's personality.

The explaination of his new powers here was pretty weak. They didn't really explain much at all and it was too vague. I'msure we'll get something more definitive soon. I think Peter's attitude when explaining his powers eventually got distracted into the Mindworm storyline. In the opening few pages he seemed to be just observing all the misery and how is was based around one focal point - Mindworm. I liked this story even if it wasn't Jenkin's strongest work. It was nice to see him go back to stories like this. Last month's poker story and this one is a breathe of fresh air. Too bad that damn "Sins Remembered" storyline starts next month.

Paul Jenkins wraps up his five-year tenure as a Spider-Man writer and brings SPECTACULAR SPIDER-MAN to a close in a moving, self-contained tale that reunites him with artist Mark Buckingham.

It's thoroughly disgusting Jenkins has to settle for a small final issue and take a backseat to "Sins Remembered"

You know, this was a nice issue. Peter and Uncle Ben's snowmen were hilarious. I also liked the dialogue between them(even though, technically, Peter was talking to himself). Peter's realization that he does what he does for his parents and not his Uncle Ben was a good realization. Not one of those crappy change everything realizations, but a subtle one.

I was afraid this was going to be a flashback issue, but it truly was a goodbye one. I felt kinda sad the whole time I was reading it, and that's how it should have made me feel. And the final page, with young Peter, Spider-Man, and all his rogues taking a bow, was a perfect ending.

Spectacular Spider-Man truly died with dignity.

I wonder what the title of the new Spider-Man book is going to be....

Yeah, it would have been nice if he could have done a final arc instead of a final issue. As long as he did this issue after the arc.

I agree that it did die with a sense of class. I mean it ended well nor great, but very well. It wasn't over the top, it was just a nice one-shot. I mean yeah i agree that I would have liked to see Jenkins do a full final arc, but this was a nice way to finish the book. As a whole always held Spectacular in high regard it was a solid book. It was alwatys a good read and I feel good that I owe every issuse...even the "Sins" arc.

Anyone notice Kevin Smith in the background on the final page holding a sign that said "Deadline"? Even Spider-Man can't defeat that foe.

This was probably the best issue of this entire series. I've been reading this comic from issue #1 and this one really hit it home. Buckingham and Jenkins just go together and it shows on this kind of story. The art was beautiful and lush. It was just the best Spider-Man tale I've read in so long and no doubt it'll be shoved in the back of the next Spectacular Spider-Man trade behind that terrible "Sins Remembered" story.

I loved this issue. Perfect. Absolutely perfect. I didn't even mind the unexplained price hike for the issue up 2.99 from 2.25.

"You pair of Twits." Great work, Mr. Jenkins. I'm going to miss your work here.

Aside from the fact that it's suppose to be spring/summer in the other Spidey comics yet it's winter in this one, I thought it was an interesting issue. I liked how the ant costume he wore resembled his Spider-Man costume. I also liked the last page with him on stage standing with all of his various enemies.

I wasn't initially planning to pick up the issue (I had hopped on just to read Sins Remembered), but given that I could get it signed by Paul Jenkins, I figured what the hell.

Pretty decent one-shot.

I also liked the last page with him on stage standing with all of his various enemies. That last page has one of my favorite jokes, with Kevin Smith holind a sign with "Dead Line" written on it. Nice jab at Smith's perpetual lateness with Spider-Man/Black Cat: The Evil That Men Do.

Then you are missing out on some great material from this comic. That "Sins Remembered" is probably the lowest this comic ever fell to with terrible script and mediocre artwork. This final issue is probably the best of the comic's entire run. A strong way for the writer to leave especially with Mark Buckingham back to help out.

Nice jab at Smith's perpetual lateness with Spider-Man/Black Cat: The Evil That Men Do.You have a very sharp eye! I was checking out all the villains while looking at the last page and identified most of them, but I didn't see Kevin Smith until after reading your post and going back to look for him :)

Judging from my sad lump-in-throat feeling reading this final issue, the title has ended on a high note. It was extremely well written, from the serious stuff to the comic relief [May's "You pair of twits" is legendary!!].
The downside to such a great final issue, is that you know it's the last one.

Let's hope that Friendly Neighbourhood Spider-Man can live up to the work Jenkins has done on this title :)

I know Jenkins has done with "talking with Uncle Ben" a few times but this was probably his best. This just got down to the core of the characters and delivered a well written issue with great art from Buckingham.

With Peter David and Mike Weiringo on The Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man we should be in for a great new Spidey comic.
