Riddle me this? Can someone who considers themselves an Otaku really watch and enjoy Toonami knowing that these shows are edited so much? (some more then others.)

Another thing, why do some Anime fans go all crazy of "minor" edits. Like the changing of "gun" for "blaster" in Outlaw. Yeah I'd agree that it's stupid to edit the word gun for blaster when they're the same thing, but is it really something so severe that you must mail thhe company that did the edits and chew them out?

Well, REAL Otakus have already seen every anime in existence and are busy catching up on the new ones, so they probably wouldn't have to.

Otaku or anime fans? "Otaku" means obsessed anime fans--to the point of disturbing. There are few of these. Anime fans? Yes, they do watch Toonami. In fact, if you go around to rec.arts.anime.misc, you'll see that generally Toonami is well-respected by anime fans. They don't go crazy over minor edits. (Well, I have to say I helped encourage more acceptance in RAAM for slightly edited anime)

And Toonami's anime is in no way "edited so much." Even Dragon Ball Z is less edited than you think. (At least when they got to Toonami)

I do know somebody who could be described as an otaku, and he watches his anime in Japanese ONLY, he is so obsessive about it. Yes, he is American, and he doesnt' know too much Japansese if you press the issue, but he says you get the juxt of what they are saying anyway when you watch enough of it. I suppose, but I'd prefer good dubbing, or subtitles if the dubbing totally sucks.

"Otaku" in Japan is not a complimentary term. It used to be a 'geek' term like "trekkies," but later implied something far more sinister. "Otaku" is now associated with something called the "Miyazaki murders." (Not Hayao Miyazaki)

The Miyazaki murders was a sad case where some lonely "otaku" went around kidnapping little girls and dismembering them. When they went to his house, they found lots of anime, 'pink' videos, and manga. Was not good for the reputation of anime and manga, and now the term is not used jokingly or favourably.

In my experience otaku are the nicest people and can often times be the "friend for life" type, until you mention that there are some dubs that you like or that you actually enjoy North American animated stuff, then they try to rip you a new one.

Personally I fancy myself a moderate fanboy (or closet fanboy if you will), as fanboyism tends to lean all over the spectrum where otaku (at least in this country) has taken on the meaning anime only fan or in some cases rabid anime fan.

Getting back to the question at hand, based on my definitions, fanboys watch Toonami, otaku do not.

Once my friend, who is a true Otaku, introduced me to Uncut, Subtitled anime..I quit Toonami all together. I haven't watched DBZ in about a year(face it, you've seen one episode, you've seen them all). I watch Big-O occasionally. I might get it Uncut & Subtitled..maybe. I loved Outlaw star, But I've seen it all, & after once, you don't really wana see it again. The new Gundams I might. But I doubt it. Suncoast is a haven for Otaku's. Those guys will probably sell Hentai to minors. Seriously, I got Master of Mosquiton(Which contains plenty of nudity..but no sex. The nudity is...for the most part...tasteful. Just 2 naked girls running around the house, one holding a shotgun trying to kill the other..haha!) when I was 16. I'm 17 now, & they don't give a rats bootay.

So the answer...If it's a good show on toonami..maybe...otherwise..no.
