From creator Adam Reed(Sealab 2021, Frisky Dingo), comes FX first original animated series. Inspired by a trip to Spain, where he couldn't muster the courage to walk up to a beautiful woman, Archer is about a suave spy Sterling Archer who goes on adventures and and does...other things. The show airs tonight with a one hour premiere at 10 PM Eastern.


Episode 1.01: "Training Day"


Archer must train comptroller Cyril Figgis, who has been promoted.
Episode 1.02: "Mole Hunt"


When Malory questions Archer's expense account, he must break into the ISIS mainframe to tidy it up.

Anyway, the show was okay. Not as good as Frisky Dingo but it definitely has potential. Also, it gets props for having Aisha Tyler as a regular.

They sent over the first 5 episodes in the screener package, and I have to say I'm pretty impressed at how strong the series is starting off. It starts at "really funny" up front and moves to "obscenely funny" really fast. H. Jon Benjamin's slacker insouciance is hilarious and it's saying something that Aisha Tyler's Lana comes off as the most mentally balanced individual on the whole show.

I am also surprised at how much they can get away with on the show. It's kind of like a more obscene version of The Venture Bros., except that I think Archer gets off to an even stronger start than that show did, and I really love The Venture Bros.

Nice, early front-runner for the inevitable end-of-year "Best New Animated TV Show of 2010," and head off the complaints if we picked another pre-school show ;).

It was alright. I know it's funny but I want one episode or character to do something hilarious to keep me watching. I really didn't like all the action everytime I saw those I wanted it to hurry and go back to the talking.

Knowing that FX LOVES their shows being MA, I have a feeling this show will stay for a while.

Maybe it's for the best for him to leave Adult Swim. It's not like he would be there forever, it's called "moving on".

I like that the show is actually a half hour unlike Reed's previous shows. Though this is basically the exact same show as Frisky Dingo and Xtacles just with different characters. It's kind of weird that Cyrill has turned out to be the most likable character in the series. I figured Archer would be a little more likable from the promos. He's actually an antihero and a borderline villain.

The premiere of Archer drew great ratings for FX and won it's timeslot in the 18-25 male demographic.

It got 1.8 million viewers. I'm honestly pleasently surprised. I was expecting Archer to get its butt handed to it by Jersey Shore, which runs in the same timeslot on MTV.

I am more excited by the fact that FX is now having original animated programing, more than I am excited about the show itself. It seemed the only place you could get adult cartoons was from FOX, comedy central or Adult Swim. I would be great if FX started to develop a block of animated programming that was purely tv-MA. Create another renaissance in adult animation that we haven't seen since the early days of Adult Swim.

Episode 1.03: "Diversity Hire"


A new field agent, “Conrad Stern,” makes an impressive splash at ISIS, but Archer and Lana suspect there may be something all too perfect about their new diversity hire.

So Carol/Cheryl/Crystal's name change is a running gag. Hilarious and I take it there's a hint in every episode that there's something amiss, for example:

Conrad is supposed to be jewish, but he's uncircumcised. The fact he almosts kills Archer is the kicker that things are to be noticed in every episode.

Loved how Conrad was playing everyone throughout, And Lana is...very, very strong. Maybe Reed's hinting at something about her?

Last night's episode was hilarious, and I'm not quite sure how Archer survives all these encounters. He is so trusting of everyone who pretends to be normal people, or he finds a connection with, lol

While the ratings aren't 'horrible', they are showing a steady sign of dropping fast.

The best chance this show has is FX being very understanding.

FX allowed It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia to grow into one of the channel's biggest hits, the first season of that series had pretty bad ratings, but the channel trusted the word of mouth to increase its ratings and renewed it.

The League had pretty mediocre ratings too, but got renewed for a 13 episode second season as well.

The only difference is The League posted some increases in ratings, however small they may have been. I don't know how easy FX will be on Archer if the show continues to drop, we better pray it increases in some way, justifying FX to renew it.

FX promoted the hell out of Archer, I think the show's main problem is it has no solid lead-in series and it's airing at a very bad timeslot where it is competing against all the most popular shows on the Thursday night 10 PM timeslot. FX should really split It's Always Sunny's seasons up into two different chunks similar to what Comedy Central used to do with Reno 911 and now do with South Park. This way, it could have benefited Archer to have Sunny as a lead in.

FX is a pretty laid back channel and is similar to HBO in the sense that when a series gets good buzz, they tend to allow it time to grow, rather than just cancel it with trigger fingers like Network TV channels. So, we can only hope they give this show room to grow.

Same here. This is one of the better shows I've seen in awhile and I'm honestly surprised it doesn't get more attention. For me Archer ranks #1 on the ole to-watch list. If anyone hasn't seen it yet you seriously need to check it out, hulu has the first four episodes.

In my opinion this show has some pretty strong characters, I mean less Archer in this episode and I barely noticed, all the character interactions are very solid. And I like how just when you think nobody at the agency can accomplish anything without dumb luck, for at least an instant, they prove they are not completely incompetent.

And picketing a secret agency with slogans that make no sense because they can't reveal that they are picketing a secret agency......hilarious!

I managed to catch the first six episodes on Hulu and I can safely say I want more. This series is hilarious. Great, if not borderline eccentric and nearly sadistically insane, characters, unique art style that may feel stiff, but can often feel "fluid" when things get going, and witty, driven-humor. It's like watching a lesser known Venture Brothers.

Well it was renewed for 13 episodes. They were at Comic Con too, I don't think much news was given though. The series is coming to DVD in December I believe.
