This is just a reminder that the CN Fancy Anvil awards show will be on tonight at 7. I'm looking forward to it; CN usually does a great job with these things, like The Big Game and their interstitials. If you miss it tonight, it will also be on tomorrow at 5.

Once the show airs, I guess we can use this thread as the "Talkback" thread.

The Oscars are tomorrow right? Is the Best Animated Feature presented during the awards?

And to get you in the oscar mood here is Creature Comforts (http://atomfilms.shockwave.com/af/content/atom_221), it won the oscar for Short Film-Animated in 1990. Made by Nick Park who won the animated short film oscar in 1993 and 1995 as well, for The Wrong Trousers and A Close Shave.

Wow. They didn't even have to add Chuck Jones to the special(he wasn't in there before), but they did at the last minute.

Way to go, On Air. You guys rule.

Bloody Hell!!!!!!!!!

Dexter beat "What's Opera Doc?", "Meat the Beat-Alls", "I like to Singa!"

GRRR!!!

CN Sucks. =p

I thought that they did a good job on the tributes. I know Matt said that there wouldn't be one for Chuck Jones earlier on, so I was surprised and impressed to see that there also.

It was nice to see that a classic cartoon won at least one category.

And we got to see Don Knotts! :wakko:

I only turned this on because there didn't seem to be anything else to watch. Imagine my surprise when it turned out be extremely funny in a few bits! I loved the dig at AOL, but some of the presentations were just flat. (Daphne & Him... what was the point?) I actually found myself wishing they had played the entire "Meet the Beat-Alls" ep of PPG. Very good stuff. But that episode of Dexter's Lab was classic. A great parody of Speed Racer, and a cartoon that deserves to be remembered.

I would have preferred another Big Game. I found those to be much funnier.

What fake cartoon are you referring to? "The Ghost Chasers"? AFAIK, that really was a cartoon... might just be my imagination, but I recall seeing a couple episodes of that years ago. And yes, it sucked. :D

I'm pretty sure Goober and The Ghost Chasers was real too, one of the many series to come from Scooby Doo's success. The Funky Phantom was better, though.

And I just don't see how Sam's performance in "Ballot Box Bunny" could be seen as inferior to Mandark's performance. He wasn't even much a villain in that cartoon for crying out loud. In "Ballot Box Bunny," Sam speaks loud, and carries an even BIGGER stick! And he loves babies! Mandark worked with Dexter, and both of them were pretty mean to one another.

Yea, what is the deal with "Goober & the Ghost Chasers"? I have never seen that cartoon before and I doubt much of the kiddies watching the awards have seen it either. It debuted in the 70's, it was one of the worser of the Scooby-Doo rip offs.

They should've had a special category for the best Scooby-Doo rip off...Goober would've been a prime candidate. But too bad it would lose to Jabberjaw though.

As for the awards, it was a decent special. It had good points and it had bad points. I really didn't like the Scooby-Doo lifetime achievement thing. To be really good, they should have had the kids do some talking, especially Shaggy, since he was with Scooby in every single thing he's been in...EVER! It was great to see some real old faces like Don Knotts and Phyllis Diller (I thought most of them died to be truthful).

Wai-wai-wai-wai-wait....when did they make fun of the Josie and Bullwinkle movies?

Some parts were funny(Capt. Linger and Elmer, The AOL thing, Plank's victory speech, the astounding crappiness of Goober), some weren't(Him and Daphne, Bunny Bravo blabbing for 5 minutes, Scooby's tribute), and there were some nice surprises(I had no idea that there would be a tribute. Very fitting. And CAPTAIN LINGER! But where was Tom?:( ) And as for the Goober nominations, HAS ANYONE ELSE REALIZED IT WAS A BIG JOKE? CN knew nobody remembered and/or liked the show. They knew it just wouldn't win. They just put it there for fun....and to confuse people.(Judging by the clips, does Goober have the ability to....turn INVISIBLE?)

I admit, What's Opera, Doc? is a gem, but I voted for Mock 5. I guess my taste is just too modern, but I think it's one of the funniest things ever.

And might I add, when the tribute came on, my little brother cried. I came close.:)

"You win some, you lose some!" Goober

Yes, he becomes invisible, the only thing you see is is his red and white striped hat.

I napped thru the first hour so I got to watch it tomorrow for Captain Linger. Really good; makes up for Dexter Goes Globel by having Mock 5 win. Although I want the special where CN had the top 50 cartoon shorts over a weekend back.

Also my favorite Team won with Ed, Edd, and Eddy.

I was busy at the movies watching Blade 2...

Muriel talking about Eustace was traumatizing.

Add the Flintstones to the list of movies they made fun of. So why didn't they do it to the upcoming Scooby movie? The fact that it isn't out yet is no excuse.

Yup. 5:00 Eastern, 4:00 Central, etc.

I like the idea of a Scooby Doo ripoff award...

The nominees are...

Goober and the Ghost Chasers
Jabberjaw
Speed Buggy
Josie and the Pussycats
The Amazing Chan and the Chan Clan

I was kind of mixed on this one. My attention wandered on the shorts, which I've seen a million times already. Some jokes worked, others didn't. I did like the tributes a lot, though.

I guess cause I've never seen Speed Racer, and never been a big fan of Dexter's is why I was quite perturbed that it won.

PPG's Meet The Beat-Alls would have been nice...I've only seen the last 2/3s of it...=\

Hopefully, On Air will draw in Adult Swim characters for the Filmbox and Inferno software so that they can be featured more in the CCF promos.

I just wonder if they'd actually air a current Space Ghost if Zorak really won Worst Villain..

The countless Goober and the Ghost Chasers nominations are probably poking fun at the fact that at the real Oscars®, a movie very few people have heard of gets a ton of nominations. (Would Monster's Ball and In the Bedroom be that well known if they hadn't garnered their nominations?)

Most interesting revelation of the night: the Fridays Disc is married. To a human.

Captain Linger: You know, your Ls and Rs sound like Ws.
Elmer Fudd: Maybe that's why I'm a wegend!

Scooby-Doo's Victory Speech: "Rank you!"

Plank's victory speech: " "

But aren't those movies actually good? I saw Goober a few months ago on Boomerang and I know it isn't good.

I'm surprised they nominated such a 'lesser' known cartoon for 4 fancy anvils.

On the Voting Page for best villian (http://www.cartoonnetwork.com/promotion/200203.goldenanvil/bestvillian.html) under Zorak they put 1960s space ghost

Allen's Nickname.

How on god's green earth does "Mach V" win over "What's opera doc?" Also, best actor should have been DAFFY!

What about The Funky Phantom?

CN used to have a Sunday block of just CN ripoffs. They called it "Mysteries INC." and The Funky Phantom was on it!

I vaguely remember seeing 'Speed Buggy' as a kid and liking it a lot. I believe they made a pretty good arcade game based on it too!

Don't you mean SD (Scooby-Doo) rip-offs? You put CN rip-offs.

Instead of having Goober do the joke nominations, they should've had that Quickie Koala show. Remember that show from that CN commercial when all the cartoon characters call sick from work, and CN had to fill in the time with it. They should've had that show do the joke nominations, NOBODY remembers that show.

Loved the AOL joke-that was vintage, the intro with everyone walking in ("There's Mike Lu or Og from the show Mike Lu & Og...I think!"), the song at the beginning, and the tributes. I would have picked a better Eds cartoon to show, like "Mirror Mirror On The Ed", but that's alright. But what was Charles Barkley doing there? ;)

I wish more of the older cartoons had won categories... it all seemed like an advertizement for cartoon cartoons and scooby, pretty much =\

I often wonder if older animation fans ever tune in to CN and see stuff like this and say "who the HELL are all THOSE characters!?" :P

I think I actually prefer this to The Big Game, and that's saying a lot! The best part was Johnny's opening monologue! Who could resist a crack at the Josie and the Pussycats movie! I'm really glad to see them honor tree pivotal people in the cartoon movement: Chuck, Bill, and Maurice. I can't wati to see what they do next year!

They already showed it a second time?????

Anyone know if and when I'll get another chance to see it?
