View Full Version : Actors/Actresses you avoid?

For me I generally avoid Nicholas Cage movies. I think he's a terrible actor with terrible tastes in movie scripts. The most recent movie I watched with him starring was Knowing. It looked really interesting but it was an extreme let down.

Are they're any actors/actresses or directors that you avoid watching?

Quite a few ... Will Farrell and Adam Sandler spring out first and foremost. Their style of comedy just doesn't work for me. I don't know if Joss Whedon directs, but I avoid anything with his name on it; I've never seen the appeal of what he writes.

I also tend to avoid Will Farrell movies pretty much for the same reason as Collie. I don't find anything the guy do funny or entertaining.

Will Ferrell
Adam Sandler
Sacha Baron Cohen
Seth Rogen

Its mainly a lot of these so called comedians and their comedy. I like maybe 2 Sandler movies. If Ferrell, Cohen or Rogen are the stars I dont watch at all.

Post-Katie Holmes Tom Cruise.

When I saw this topic he was the first thing that shot to mind. I might see this upcoming movie he's in with Cameron Diaz since it looks funny but honestly the guys an egotistical whack job and his movies have become such a joke.

Martin Lawrence is just beginning to come back into my good graces but there was a period of time where all he played was the "crazy black guy" (yes, yes Tracy Morgan is doing this too but it seems to not grate on my nerves as much) and his comedic style just upset me.

Speaking of Adam Sandler he's pretty hit or miss. There are some movies I like him in (Funny People, 50 First Dates) but there are a lot of movies where he does the same shtick just with different titles.

The only Seth Rogen film that upset me was Observe and Report. It was supposed to be funny and it just came off as forced and depressing. But all his other films I liked or loved and I have to admit that he gets cuter by the year so I don't avoid his stuff.

I guess you can add any of the Friends actors that are not Lisa Kudrow or Courtney Cox. All the male cast members have SUCKY movie careers and while I tolerate SOME Jennifer Aniston movies I swear everything she does makes her the new Meg Ryan of Romantic Comedies (that is not a good thing).

Oh yeah, Tyler Perry. Anything with Madea I avoid like the plague.

Then there's Matthew McConaughey. While I like the abs I think those puppies as well as the actor himself just get too much media focus and whenever he's in a movie I'm not to hyped to see it.

Martin Lawrence, Tracy Morgan, Hayden Christiansen, and Sean Penn. While not actors, anything by the Coen Brothers

Funny that you guys brinig up Will Farrell as i feel he can make anything work. Even Land of the Lost, which is a terrible movie, he's hilarious in.

Other than the Star Wars prequels, has he been in anything particularly noteworthy?

Sean PennI don't know what your problem with Sean Penn is; the guy is a top-flight Oscar winning actor.

While not actors, anything by the Coen Brothers. They're an acquired taste, to be sure. They're decidedly quirky, and their determinism to be so off-center can sometimes get a little tiresome, but they're still talented filmmakers, to my mind, who've made some excellent work.

With regard to people like Will Farrel, Adam Sandler, Jim Carrey, etc. I have friends who love them, but generally speaking I can't stand them much. I like people like that for a 10-minute Saturday Night Live skit, but most of their movies seem to be structured more around their jokes and things than actual story, and I just find that that sort of thing gets old pretty quickly.

yeah, he's an oscar winner, so what? I'm not saying i dislike him because he's a bad actor. I just don't like the movies that he's in. He's typically in movies that i don't care for.

as for hayden, he was in jumper. In any case, he's such a bad actor if i never see him in anything else, i'll consider myself lucky

oh, i can't believe i forgot - heather graham. She ruins everything she's in.

As long as the movies make me laugh, that's all i ask for in a comedy. If it has a story, even better but i want to laugh.

Yeah, the coens probably are an aquired taste. It's like beer. I'm sure it takes some getting used to, but if i don't like something after 1 or 2 times i don't go back in the hopes that the experience will get better.

I try to get everyone a fair shot, and after watching a couple of his films, I try to avoid Will Ferrell films like the plague.

On the director note, can't stand anything from M. Night Shylaman post-Unbreakable.

Agreed. Plus his voice is so dull and boring. T_T

I'll also jump on the anti-Will Ferrel bandwagon. |:

I avoid anything starring actors who aren't really actors, like any movie with Paris Hilton in it. Thank god her star is fading.

Generally its Daniel Radcliffe. He just bugs me loads, when he acts its very one dimensional and not a great deal or range or emotion. Basically I have no concern about whether Potter lives or dies. Also his acting in the other film, where he is like Kipling's son or whatever, that was also very bland and dull.

Ben Affleck I don't know what it is that I hate about this guy. But this guy IMHO is one of the worst actors ever. I'm kinda surprised that no one else thinks this in this thread. I only liked him in one movie and that's Good Will Hunting.

Chris Rock-I really can't stand this guy. I don't know what it is about him.

Sasha Baran Colan: I just never really got into his stuff at all.

Jessica Alba - looking back, she wasn't even all that good in Dark Angel, but she's been even worse since then.

Really? I think that he's a talented young actor, based on the Harry Potter films. I'm looking forward to seeing where his career goes.

I don't much like Affleck, but I've always found his willingness to make fun of himself as much as he does sort of endearing.

She's famous only because lots of people that she's hot. ONLY.

None. None at all. I grow fond of actors and actresses, but I never avoid them.

I tend to stay away from any Actor in a Judd Apatow produced/directed films.

I'll tend to avoid Mel Gibson directed/acting in films because he just doesnt grasp my style of films.

Don Cheadle, like he his a hit and miss but he just isnt that good.

Catherine Zeta-Jones, she had her Chicago moment which was excellent but hasnt stunned me since.

Seth Rogen. He's ruined comedy movies for me and he's just such an obnoxious actor I don't bother giving any of his latest movies a piece of my time.

Michael Cera is another. Talk about typecasting, he's basically played George Michael in every single movie he's been in since Arrested Development ended. The only thing that ever changes is his love interest in the movies.

Anything with Mo'Nique in it I avoid like the Plague. I just find her loud, grating and not funny.
