Slashfang here, a sabertooth tiger beast that never made it into the Primal Rage franchise has something to say;

Sorry, but I just thing Rath is a little queer. You can tell the creators weren't even trying. An alien would not look like a tiger. Yeah, Spidermonkey looks like a monkey, but certain aspects of him make him look like an alien, multiple limbs and eyes as well as his color.
Rath is just a bipedal tiger, minus the tail.
Why would aliens, when developing, look like Earth based animals? Their planet would have to be exactly like Earth, as well as the enviromental factors and the species in its ecosystem.
I say this because they had a potential interesting idea for an alien here, and it looks like they didn't even try! I give blech! Rath two fingers up.

You sure his name isn't "Wrath", as in "Wrath of destruction" or something like that? "Rath" does not seem correct to me...
Anyway, I think he's a pretty cool looking alien, a lot of the other aliens have the alien look and feel to it, Wrath seems like he's something entirely different and I'm totally excited for his debut.

Yeah...it's a pretty lazy design. Especially compared to how unique and cool-looking the original 10 Omnitrix aliens were.

Basing one's opinion off a thirty second commercial seems rather premature. Ben's already had one anthropomorphic animal form ('Benwolf'), and several other anthropomorphic animal aliens have been seen throughout the series; Mole D. Warp certainly looked mole-like to me, and Galvans seem a lot like frogs.
Give it a chance.

I think people complain because Rath looks just like a regular anthropomorphic Tiger without any additional appearance to make more like an alien. The difference with Benwolf is that he has the ability to emit ultrasonic howl by splitting his mouth and Rath just seem to attack everyone with brute force.
I'm with everyone with Rath's appearance, The designers of the show would've play more with Rath's design or if they wanted to make him a Tiger at least mix him with something out of this world.

Anyone think it's actually ironic/coincidental that 2010 is considered the Year of the Tiger, according to Chinese astrology, and they decided to go with a tiger-like alien, despite everyone's opinion?

Sure, that's what they want you to believe until we see Rath in action we will have our own opinion and It's Lowenthal, don't worry we always get wrong the last name.

I agree that most of them had a unique design, but I didn't think that the original ten Omnitrix aliens were that cool to look at. Maybe it helps that I didn't enjoy the original series that much to begin with.
As for Rath, I think that he has an interesting design. I don't mind that he looks more like a tiger than some of the other animal aliens Ben has transformed into. It still has some characteristics of being an alien, such as strength and I think his roar was fairly powerful as well in the promo. Still, I'm not sure how accurate it is to judge a new alien design based on a brief promo. To me, it would make more sense to wait until after the episode airs before passing judgment on the design.

Yeah you're right about the opinions, but Mr. Mcduffie always said either echo echo or Rath so I'm not sure he's trying to "sell" Rath.

Rath looks pretty cool.... sure, he doesn't look completely alien, except for the Omnitrix on his chest, the green eyes, and the alien/tiger-looking head...
But for me, it's kinda nice to see an animal-like alien for once. It kinda provides a little bit of variety.
This episode premiers this Friday, right?

Since the Vreedles are in this ep, and they died (confined by Dwayne mcduffie) and when asked how they lived he said "what if it was a flashback", I think the whole ep is a flashback OR Rath is so angry and attacks things because he sees everyone as his sworn enemies ie the Vreedles.

He's just misleading everyone. I think it was an error from Mcduffie on saying the Vreedle brothers are dead and says something coming out of his head in the last minute.
Remember that people who are involve in cartoon shows can make mistakes.

Possibly, but the T.V. Guide description says that along with the Vreedles, the Incursions (frog guys from X=Ben+2) and Argit are trying to stop the ship as well, sounds like a big coincidence. Now what would Gibbs say? Mr. Mcduffie also admits his mistakes when he makes them and was pretty adamant about the Vreedles return not being a retcon or them surviving the explosion.

I have to ask the question again, are we sure it's "Rath" and not "Wrath"? Wrath would make more sense since it stands for what the character is all about, but they could have performed a play on the name and chose Rath as an alternate spelling or something.

"Rath" seems more likely, since spelling it correctly would be too generic of a name.

I agree with both of you. We haven't really seen enough of him to judge, but we have seen just looks too much like they said "Anthropomorphic tiger" and called it a day. Maybe, like with Benwolf's mouth splitting open, there's something about it in action that will set it apart.
Although I'm really bugged by just how cavalier this iteration of the show is about forms that change Ben's personality. In the original show, even Greymatter was still Ben, just with higher intelligence. Now we have Brainstorm, who changes Ben's entire way of speaking, Spidermonkey who makes him crack lame jokes (Although we've seen that it's not a feature of the race, just Ben's form), and now Rath who makes him really aggressive. They really should be expressing more of a fear of another Ghostfreak incident, or Eon (since everything I've read and the parents portrayal paints the first live action movie as part of Alien Force continuity), where the alien takes Ben over.

Some of the aliens have dominant personalities, and Greymatter did by the way make Ben use big words like Brainstorm, and Rath would seem to be more like ghostfreak in dominance. Ben accidentally turned into Rath and we haven't seen the post transformation scene, so there's no way to know wether they're worrying about the risks or not. Spidermonkey seems to be a nod to spiderman who cracks lots of cheesy jokes.

Rath looks cool..heck he's so far the only AF design that isn't makeing me want to wait for his debut to like him. I bet he'd look mored alien like if they didn't ditch the clothing thing on the aliens...Benwolf himself won't really look like Benwolf without it..so I get why the opinion on Rath.

Greymatter didn't use big words in place of small ones, like Brainstorm does, but only big words when they're necessary. But this is just one of those things that really annoys me, because I knew lots of really smart people in high school and they all talked so that they could be understood, not so they could impress people with their vocabulary.
And Spider-man reference or not, the fact remains that he has a distinct personality that overrides Ben's own, and it's a personal one, not a racial one.

I know where you're comin' from. There was a particular girl that bullied me my entire life in elementary school, and she was kinda the same way (but she was also an uber-popular snob too).
But the difference here is, Brainstorm talks that way because it's more than likely a trait that his species has (his name kinda gives it away, that his alien species seems to be really intelligent), while those kids in school are just being little jerks who try to be with the "in-crowd" and whatever other ridiculous reasons they got.

1. You misunderstand, nobody I knew talked like that. Big words were used when appropriate, but not when there were perfectly good small words that worked.
2. But Brainstorm's species probably doesn't speak English, so where are the big words coming from?

That seems to be a brainstorm species thing seeing as Azmuth was adverse to the species, kind of declaring them show offy, spidermonkey is weird though.
Edit:^^ the omnitrix translates all of the alien languages in the DNA sample to the wearer's language. So the cerebrocrustaceans probably talk like that on their planet.

But how can they talk like that? Wouldn't the translation go for small words that mean the same thing? My Spanish to English dictionary doesn't give large words that mean the same as small ones, why would the Omnitrix? Why translate every language into basic English except for one that gets translated into Thesaurus-ese?

I seriously doubt that it is since The New York Times normally doesn't comment on a new episode of Alien Force, especially when it hasn't even aired yet. They might comment on a new series, depending on when it airs, but I don't recall them reviewing or previewing new episodes of a series.
Icthyosura, do you have a valid link for this information? I checked The New York Times website and they don't even mention anything about Ben 10 within the past thirty days. It would be easier to believe this news with an actual source to back up your claim, instead of just saying that it was from The New York Times without any proof.

But how can they talk like that?
That's just they way Brainstorm's species is. There really is no deep explination for it if we wanted one, kinda like how people of certain nationalities have an accent or how people from different parts of the U.S. speak differently or have an accent from others.
And from what I read in the McDuffie forum, it seems like he doesn't really have the spare time to answer those type of questions anyway. It's just a cartoon is all it is...
