This year was the first real year for me in gaming. I've had the Wii and the PS2 (and countless others) before but this year, but this seemed like the first year where I really started playing video games. I made lots of purchases during 2009. What did you buy this year for video games?

Let's see, I only have a PS3 so that narrows it down. My brother bought Killzone 2, Resident Evil 5, Dynasty Warriors Empires 6, and Uncharted 2. I bought Batman Arkham Asylum( with batarang ) and inFAMOUS. For PSN my brother also bough Fat Princess for my sister, Resident Evil DC, and Blood Omen. Had the job front not been so rough we probably would have bought more but writing it down, it wasn't too bad a haul.

I'd love to list it, but I got so many games for under $20 that the list would take forever to compile.

Well, let me see, I got....

....Stranglehold, F.E.A.R., and F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origing (which I only just started playing, today) all for the XBOX360. I would also have listed X-Men Origins: Wolverine, but then I remembered that I only rented that game, since it was not worth buying at full-price (or even for anything more than $10, IMO).

Yeah, being in a bad financial situation sure sucks, especially for someone like me who really would have bought a ton of games if I had the money (I have the spirit to play a lot, but the not the cash to back-up by gaming hunger :p ).

Oh well, even if I did have a lot of money, I'd hardly have the time to play that many games this year, anyways, thanks to how busy my college has been keeping me.

Most of the games that I got this year were gifts. Those were Yu-Gi-Oh! World Championship 2009 Stardust Accelerator, Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games and The Secret Saturdays Beasts of the 5th Sun for the DS.

Of course, I bought Pokemon Platinum back in March, which surprised me when I looked it up since my team got to level one-hundred and got all of the Silver Prints in the Battle Frontier in record breaking time. I also bought Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky, Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days and Fire Emblem Shadow Dragon for the DS. I didn't like Fire Emblem as much as I wanted to, but it was a free game that I got during that Toys R Us video game sale back in October. I would like to get a Wii with Super Smash Brothers Brawl and Pokemon Battle Revolution one day, but I'm content with just playing my Nintendo DS right now.

I normally wait until games fall around $20 before buying.
This can be risky because instead of going into a "Greatest Hits" value line, some games simply go out of print which causes the price to go back up.
It's all about buying at the right time.

Not a big haul, but here it is:

Metroid Prime Trilogy (Wii)
Blaster Master (Virtual Console)
The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks (DS)

I still haven't opened Spirit Tracks yet. I bought it on the 14th because it would get me 150 points on my Reward Zone account as long as I got it by the 20th, but I wasn't sure if I wanted to keep it at the time. I guess I might as well keep it now though.

To remind people: we have those "What Did You Buy This Month?" threads here. I'll probably go back and tag 'em all, but do a search for these threads if you need your memory jogged.

As for me, I bought a PSP in April. I always said that I would get one if they have something I want. Beating out good portable renditions of my favorite game series - Burnout, Guilty Gear, and Street Fighter - as deciding factors was the existence of Rock Band Unplugged - a game whose play style and control scheme will remind some like me of PS2 cult games Frequency and Amplitude. I have amassed enough games - via physical UMD games and games downloaded from PSN - to last me for a long time.

Meanwhile, this may be the first year I haven't bought/asked for a game for a Nintendo system. And, I pre-ordered a bunch of games: SF4 collector's edition, Rock Band Unplugged, BlazBlue, Beatles Rock Band, and Left 4 Dead 2.

Off the top of my head, I recall receiving or purchasing these games during the year:

Wii
- Punch-Out!!
- Resident Evil: Darkside Chronicles
- Madworld
- New Super Mario Bros Wii

PS3
- Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection
- Street Fighter IV
- Resident Evil 5
- Valkyria Chronicles

DS
- Izuna 2: The Unemployed Ninja Returns
- Chrono Trigger

Older Titles
- Capcom vs SNK 2
- F-Zero GX
- MegaMan X Collection
- Viewtiful Joe
- Street Fighter Anniversary Collection

There's some older titles and downloads I'm currently forgetting as well. I might have to re-check. Needless to say, I got more games than I thought this year, still missing a few I really want and yet don't have the time to play them all. I really wish I could take my consoles back to college with me.

- Pokemon Platinum. I had boughten this a couple weeks after it's release...it's probably my most favorite game that I have from this year.

There's two racing games that I had bought, NFS Nitro and DiRT 2. Both games are okay for me, but I'm always choosing to play NFS Hot Pursuit 2 over those games because it has more options for tracks, number of laps, and creating your own tournament.

Only 3 people bought Klonoa and A Boy & His Blob?

I guess the genre really is dying.

To be honest, I've never seen a single retailer in my college town carrying either game. Even the Gamestops, the closest of which has a huge wall of Wii games, didn't seem to have both.

It was quite the opposite for me. I kept seeing this on store shelves in Toys R Us and Gamestop, a whole lot of them. Even the store my brother works in had quite a few of them. Really the fact that the games aren't selling that much is quite a shame as well.

I saw it a Best Buy for $20 dollars yesterday.

I didn't pick it up though because I'm saving my money (Or a better word : Allowance) to purchase Tatsunoko vs Capcom for Wii.

Just thought I'd let you know about the price reduction~
