View Full Version : Receding hairline.

At the tender age of 22, with a clinical depression induced mortality crisis (at this rate, I'll die single), I have found, that due to one person in my massive genepool, I appear to have inherited a hairline that has already begun to recede. Fearing baldness (the horror....the horror!), I was curious as to if anything actually worked on it. I've seen numerous alleged treatments, and scoffed at them all, but by this time, I'm about ready to try something despite my limited income. Long story short: am I doomed, or do I have a chance?

Shave it all off. Then you never have to worry about losing it. IMO, most bald people look better with no hair than with a little bit, anyway.

I'm not sure why that is, but it's just what I think.

The only thing that I've heard that works is a hair transplant.
But it's very expensive, and it doesn't work all the time...

It's genetic, so it's even harder to avoid hair loss.
You could try dietary supplements to reduce it/slow it down.
My dad uses Rogaine (regrowth treatment), and has for a while (a year, I think),
but I don't really see a difference. It could be different for you, though.

Try a quick search on hair growth products on Amazon or something,
and check the reviews.

Sorry, that's about all I know.

I agree with PRPD, I think you're having a bit of an overreaction. I'm sure it's not as bad as it seems. Besides, great things come in bald packages.

That's what my best friend did. We're only early-30s, but by mid-20s he noticed that some areas of his hair were coming in less than others, so he just started shaving his head completely. And I have to say, it makes him look much cooler. :)

I'm not there yet, though I have been finding gray hairs for the last few years! Haha!!!

It sucks if you don't get the choice to keep your hair, but being bald is so easy and you save twenty dollars minimum a month on haircuts.

A running myth that women tell me is that they think women don't go bald as often as men because they play with their hair (salons, combing, etc.) and keep the circulation going in the hair follicles. There was a health program on tv recently that suggested that too, and had a demonstration on scalp massaging. Don't know if that works. \_ O_o _/

I agree. I never understood people who were bald on the top of their head but then decide to spike up the front of the hair. I mean, you're bald! That just looks ridiculous. Now, granted, if your hair is receding from the front it might not look quite as bad, depending on how far back it is receding. If it ever gets to the point where you have a big bald spot on your head it's always better just to shave.

Yeah, I saw the scalp massaging on The Doctors. I wonder if you need someone else to do it or if you can just do it yourself? I've been rubbing the top of my head more often in an effort to strengthen my hair follicles.

When I begin to lose my hair, I'm just gonna say good riddens.

Hold your horses. Baldness isn't bad at all. Terry O'Quinn. Howie Mandell. The guy from Transmetropolitan. It's all your perspective on it. Think positively.

Just shave it all off, every last hair. A perfect smooth dome is preferable to trying to fight the inevitable...

It's either this...

At the tender age of 22

I'm also a 22-year-old with a receding hairline. What I do is brush my hair forward. It covers up all the evidence. I'll let you know when that stops working.

I must say I never really noticed the age at which guys lose their hair until a few years ago, when I starting...noticing it. :p All these guys that are way younger than me with receding hairlines, some rampantly so! I must say that guys that are balding who keep their hair short look like they have more of it.

I have more hair than I know what to do with and I think it throws people off, age-wise. I'm much older than I look.
