There was this old cartoon from the 40's I think (or 50's)......I don't know who produced it. Does anybody remember it?
A New York yellow cab (male version) was married to a New York yellow cab (female version) and they had a baby (an adorable little boy yellow cab). They parented him and taught him the lessons of life. He got into some terrible trouble and had to be spanked and learned from his mistakes in the end. Sound familiar?

I believe you are refering to "One Cab's Family", directed by Tex Avery and made at MGM. Oh, and welcome to the board.

I don't know the name, but it was a MGM cartoon by Tex Avery.

That's ONE CAB'S FAMILY. Sorry, but I consider that Tex Avery's worst cartoon ever. It looked like something Disney would make.

Actually, something like Friz Freleng would make -- which he did in 1937 as "Streamline Gretta Green." Even an episode of Toonheads pointed out the obvious similarities, though in Freleng's version, dad wasn't around and the race against the train was less melodramatic.

Not Avery's best, but still better than its follow-up, "Little Johnny Jet." Scott Bradley apparently liked the title score variation on "One Cab's Family" so much he used it for all the CinemaScope Droopys, which is the cartoon's other claim to fame.

J. Lee (and all)~

Actually "One Cab's Family" has several claims to fame... It is one of the only MGM credits for Disney storyman (and Mickey Mouse Club co-host) Roy Williams. So it is a real case of Disney meeting Avery (though William's final input is unknown, knowing Tex's habit of re-gagging cartoons). Secondly it is only ONE cartoon away from its virtual remake "Little Johnny Jet" which had the unique distinction of being both nominated for the cartoon Oscar and also chosen for inclusion in the Library of Congress Film collection. Not bad for a cartoon which few people like, and that appears to have been made from leftover story and gags from "One Cab's Family"!!!. And yes John. "One Cab's Family" is most definitely an Avery reworking of Freleng's much earlier Warner toon "Streamlined Greta Green". My hunch is that Tex saw it as a Blue Ribbon re-release, though he was at Schlesinger's when it was made. But as such it is just one more evidence of Tex's reworking of Friz's older toons...

Am I the only person who really likes "One Cab's Family" and "Little Jonny Jet?" I sort of liken them to "I love to Singa" plotwise.

Actually Yak, I like both "One Cab's..." and "Little Johnny..." and their predecessor "Streamlined Greta Green". But most folks get upset because they are so "un-Avery-esque". People get into "I Love To Singa" 'cause of it's funky jazz, and so excuse it for being "un-Avery". (Your point about it is a good one).

Of course I also like Tex's "The Mice Will Play"...

Of course, I find One Cab's Family inferior to Streamlined Greta Green . I always prefer the originals.

Is a reworking the same thing as a remake?
