-The Box says that the system has "limited backwards compatibility" does it means it can at least play PS2 games?

-While the Blu ray movies look great, I tried to watch an anime (Murder Princess) and the picture looked a bit grainy/pixelated, how can I remedy this?

Thanks in advance.

I dont have a PS3, but I've been reading up on it. I think the Slim only has backward compatibility for PS1 discs. I read that they removed the PS2 compatibility on the newer models.

I just got one today too. Still no PS2 compatibility, only PS1. And I fiddled with some of the video settings and my DVDs look great. Definitely turn on full upscaling.

Thanks in advance.Depends on how your PS3 is connected to your TV. Is your TV HD-compatible? Is the PS3 hooked up with composite cables (ie the cables that came with the system), component cables, or HDMI?

PS3 is conected to HD tv via HDMI calbe, might have to mess with the upscaling options.:D

Aside from playing with some up scaling options, most older animes and movies are not made to be displayed at 1080i. I assume you got Murder Princess on DVD. While DVDs CAN support 1080i, there are very very few that do. Odds are it was made for the standard 480p or 720p. So there will be some up scaling problems.

It really sucks that the PS3 has no backwards compatibility (except for the 60 and 40 gig models). That's like one of the only [major] downsides.

You'd think they'd put it in the slim.

The PS3's backwards compatibility with PS2 games is strange, only some SKU's had it and other didnt........? What the hell was Sony thinking? I guess since the PS2 was outselling the PS3 for a while they figured why not milk the PS2 for all it's worth before disconinuing it or something. I don't think the PS3 is going to last too long really, it seems like it isn't selling that good and the 360 seems to be getting all of the big releases, I guess I can chalk the PS3/PSP generation from Sony a failure (so far). I never liked the PS2 (I had an XboX and Cube) but I did love the original Playstation though, that system was friggen awesome!

It is disappointing for such a feature to be missed, but I had my PS3 for over a year now and sequels to my favorite games that was on PS2 (like Disgaea and Tekken) are already on the system, so I don't consider it as a serious loss.

The only Backwards compatible PS3s are actually, the 20GB, 60GB, and some of the 80GB. You can tell by the 4 USB ports on the front. As well as the 60GB and 20GB models have built in memory card readers.

The PS3 is starting to pick up steam. It has been outselling the 360 in all regions since the price drop. While, I'm not totally sure about its European sales, but I know its been outselling the 360 in the States and in Japan.

At this point in time, I think the PS3 is a better buy then a 360. The hard drives are cheaper to upgrade, built in wi-fi, bluray, rechargeable batteries already in the controllers, free online.

Before the price drop, I was spelling doom and gloom for Sony, but now that they are offering a superior product for the same price as Microsoft, I don't see how they can fail.

While it is true that you can have a DVD-video disc output at 720p, those are rare for a consumer retail product like anime or blockbuster movies. It's more common to have a DVD data disc be crammed with as many 1080p MP4 files as it could cram than a retail 720p DVD-Video disc.

The PS3 is starting to pick up steam. It has been outselling the 360 in all regions since the price drop. While, I'm not totally sure about its European sales, but I know its been outselling the 360 in the States and in Japan.Let's be honest, the 360 in Japan is a moot point; the only thing Microsoft cared about the 360 in Japan (besides developer support) was getting past the one million units sold marker, which was something the original Xbox never did in Japan. Sony has always had a strong foothold in Europe, and has consistently outsold the 360 in weekly sales since late May, well before the price drop. Although, since the beginning of the month, the 360 outsold the PS3 in America. Who knows who will win Black Friday.

At this point in time, I think the PS3 is a better buy then a 360. The hard drives are cheaper to upgrade, built in wi-fi, bluray, rechargeable batteries already in the controllers, free online.

Before the price drop, I was spelling doom and gloom for Sony, but now that they are offering a superior product for the same price as Microsoft, I don't see how they can fail.I don't know about that. I do agree on some aspects (hard drive replacement, built-in wi-fi), there are some aspects that the 360 does better. Live is still a beast. There's better support for downloadable games than on the PS3. Speaking of, it really does come down to the games, and I see both as equals.

Good news, its still covered by the store you bought it from. Most stores have at least a 30 day defective guaranty out of the box like Gamestop. Some big name stores like Costco and Wal-mart cover it for 90 days or in some cases a year.

Anyway, its also covered by the one year warranty through Sony as well.

But I recommend you have a retailer handle it first, before you send it off to Sony.

Oh no. When you take it to the store, tell them there's a disc inside and they might be able to get it out for you.

Oh yeah, after 5 seconds on the PS3 support page I found this (http://playstation.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/playstation.cfg/php/enduser/popup_adp.php?p_faqid=1193&p_created=1218491832&p_sid=u9PLv9Oj). Try troubleshooting your PS3 first, just in case this can some how magically fix it.

And it seems that the slim model has a manual way to eject discs (http://playstation.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/playstation.cfg/php/enduser/popup_adp.php?p_faqid=1783&p_sid=u9PLv9Oj&p_lva=).

Returned it to the store, the poor staff worker was unable to bring it back to life, thus got refunded(got refund for the game stuck inside too) and I did see another PS3 in the back corner, suggesting I was not the only one with the same problem.
