NEW YORK (Variety) -
"Tied for third with a 1.7 rating were TNT, which was down 11% year to year, and Cartoon Network, which was flat from last year's second quarter....Cartoon scored with a Bugs Bunny marathon and a special called ``Toonheads: The Wartime Cartoons.''

Just got the word: The rating was HUGE for Toonheads. Here's a quote from a Turner Press release:
"Toonheads: The Wartime Cartoons, a one-hour study of theatrical cartoons created during World War II, which averaged a 2.3 household rating and 3,400,000 different viewers, the strongest Toonheads performance year-to-date. Also, the network's annual Bugs Bunny tribute, June Bugs (June 1, 11 p.m. - June 3, 12 a.m.), featuring every Bugs Bunny cartoon in circulation and shown in chronological order, scored a 1.6 average household rating and attracted 29,320,000 different viewers, making it the most-watched stunt ever presented on Cartoon Network."
Go to my website for a link to the entire press release.
Can it be that TOONHEADS: THE WARTIME CARTOONS got a bigger rating than the JUNE BUGS marathon?
JUNE BUGS had all that publicity, whereas TOONHEADS: THE WARTIME CARTOONS not only had minimal publicity, it wasn't even listed in TV GUIDE - and had the wrong programming info listed on their own website!
Thank you to everyone who helped get the word out - hopefully this will lead to more rare and hopefully uncut cartoons on Cartoon Network.

I hope this makes CN to want to make more Toonheads episodes. The existing episodes are pretty good, but they get old after being rotated since 1999!
Congrats!

This is the time that Cartoon Network needs wake up and smell the coffee on this one...I just hope the CN finally realizes that they have a huge audience for these cartoons and starts doing something about it.
To think that this special received more ratings than"JUNE BUGS"???(who would have thought) and their very own home made (otherwise known as "Garbage, Garbage") crap toons.
Hey, and you knows...Maybe "ADULT SWIM" could have a showcase for these types of cartoons for us? That would be an excellent thing for the cartoon fans.
Jerry, you're the best thing that ever happened to CN, keep up the excellent work that you do for this network :D :D :D

Congratualtions, Jerry. Hopefully CN will give the go-ahead for someother "non traditional" Toonheads episodes, based on Sunday's ratings.
I'm also assuming the ratings mean there's a good chance for a rerun of the special in the near future?

I'd love a rerun because I missed the last few minutes.
They should do a one-hour Toonheads special about cartoons that are offensive to Native Americans.
