Yeah, but "Yankee Doodle Bugs" has the Indian gags cut out! How lame is that?!?

When did they start editing Yankee Doodle Bugs?
I recall seeing the Indian gag in previous showings (and it's not a racial joke...it's a real estate joke!)

They've been cutting out that scene since last year's JUNE BUGS (I think). Someone else should confirm when it was first sighted edited.

Is there an edit? The version yesterday on the Acme Hour had Bugs saying something about 'The indians owned it", and showed a bunch of huge tepees. Was there something else?

The scene of an American man BUYING Manhattan with a songsheet was gone, with the Indian chief immediatley trading the island for it and running off yelling that's he's rich. "Me Rich Super Chief!"

WNEW TV in New York edited that part out (cutting it at the image of the sheet music) from the day it went into syndication in September 1964, making it one of the oldest edits around.
Other independent stations and later Nickelodeon had the option of leaving that scene untouched and did, but remember, every edit you see on every WB cartoon today is designed to placate anyone who would raise protests in Time-Warner's hometown of New York, along with the big city near AOL's headquarters, Washington, DC.
In the mind of AOL Time Warner officials, keep the people in those two cities -- who have access to the media and/or policitcal levers -- happy, and you've gotten rid of some major potential headaches.
