View Full Version : I got a couple questions about Batman Beyond

Hey all I been a lurker at Toonzone boards for awhile decided to post

but I have a question I always wondered about bruce wayne in BB

why did he give up being batman? Is it because he was too old to be batman cause I seen him with a cane lots of times
or did he just want to pass the torch on to terry and a younger generation? :confused:

Bruce gave up being Batman because he was, indeed, waaaay too old. He switched from the spandex-and-cape costume to the super strong Beyond suit to compensate, but the stress of the suit's cybernetics caused him to have a heart attack in the middle of a fight.

The cane is actually a different story. Bruce uses it because of a leg injury he received while still Batman. It's revealed in the Batman Beyond movie "Return of the Joker", but only in the uncut version (coming out this April).

The fact that he was forced to turn a gun on another person (criminal or not, regardless) to save his own life was the final undeniable sign that it was time to retire. It was a gun that created Batman the night Bruce Wayne's parents were murdered, and everything came full circle.

I'm assuming you haven't seen the first episode of Batman Beyond, "Rebirth." The first part of that episode shows Bruce's last night as Batman, and it's incredible. Check it out.

I have to disagree with Wit on some points. Yes he was getting old to be Batman but he did not switch suits to compensate. The last night he was Batman was actually the first time he wore the new suit. It was a test run to see how it would work, but somehow with his old age and the suits high pressure and cybernetics, it caused him to have a heart attack. He knew he was getting old but the suit only put more pressure on his body. And like Whit said, the gun was the last straw.

He was lonely, Barbra was gone, Dick was gone and he knew it was time to give it up. It was not just because he was getting old, he could of compensated that a bit longer.

And without saying too much, the stuff that was revealed about the past in Return of the Joker seems to have had a lot to do with it. I mean, in general, things got pretty bad with that...

Buy it on April 23rd in all its uncut glory?

It was a new suit? Are you sure? I don't recall them saying that... but I might have missed it.

They didn't actually say it on the tv show but i read it on Batman Beyonds old OLD website (the one where they showed how Batman retired i different pictures at a time, kinda like Java i think.

so, wait a minute, how do you guys know that bruce wayne tried that suit for the first time in rebirth??? i was under the impression that he was wearing it for years.

True, but I must confess I'm curious as I imagined that he had been wearing the suit for a while.

Either way, it makes sense..

Has anyone got a more reliable source than the old BB website - I have little confidence in the accuracy of 'official' sell the product websites.... ;)
