I'm tired of the "The Joker always dies" explanation. Someone give me a RATIONAL explanation how he survived in World's Finest, Mad Love, and Laughing Fish.

He's just special ;) , that, and if he died...well, that would just suck now wouldn't it? Obviously he has luck on his side, and he's just got skill on getting out alive in tough scrapes.

Remember that Joker is the mirror image of Batman, so everything Batman does, Joker puts a sardonic and nasty twist to it, including cheating death.

It's a joke on us, we THINK he's dead, but the joke is, we're getting fooled, as is Batman! ;)

Joker cannot die, if Joker dies Batman dies. :p

*sigh* The answer is SO simple...

Laughter really is the best medicine...thanx to the chemicals which altered him, everytime he laughs, he gets physically better...so even when if apears he's dead, a little laugh, and he's as good as new! =O

PENGUIN: Well, I hear you-know-who got killed by the Bat again. He sure gets around for one guy.
TWOFACE: Yeah, well thats where you're wrong. I don't think it is one guy.
CROC: Huh?
TWOFACE: The way I figure it, Bruce Timm's got a bunch of them stashed place like a SWAT team. They want you to think its one guy...
JOKER: Eh, you're always seeing double.
TWOFACE: Wha? You survived? I was certain I heard you were killed by Robin!
JOKER: No, that was an elseworlds story. Get it right!
PENGUIN: But... what about that Laughing Fish incident?
JOKER: Don't you know sharks don't eat unless they're hungry!
PENGUIN: And that event they entitled 'Mad Love'?
JOKER: Can you believe my luck? It was a pillow factory!
TWOFACE: But how about that big Wing over Metropolis?
RIDDLER: You must tell me! I've got to know! SOMEBODY TELL ME HOW HE DID IT! I'VE GOT TO KNOW!!!
JOKER: I hid in the safe!

And now you know... the rest of the story.

Can someone give me a logical explaination of how he survived in "Mask of the Phantasm?"

Oh, they DID actually explain what happened to the Joker after MASK OF THE PHANTASM - Andrea just let him go. She said something along the lines of, "I struck the fear of God into him, so my work was done", or something like that. Pretty weak, eh?

You can only use the "Joker can never die unless you find a body" excuse so many times before viewers get sick of it. If I see it ever again in the animated world, I certainly will be sick - MAD LOVE, THE LAUGHING FISH, WORLD'S FINEST...thank you, Robin, for bumping him off in ROTJ.

The whole idea of needing to see a body is a neat twist the first couple times, but right now, it's become cliche, unless the writers give a believable way in which he could survive a run-in with a shark, smokestack, exploding plane or whatnot...

Now if they ever wrote a story showing what happened to the Joker AFTER one of these incidents, that would be rather interesting. Hmmm...I think I've just inspired myself...

he's simply the joker. have you noticed that in almost every "death" scene he undertakes, he laughs uncontrollably... I think that wuz a little injoke for "Return of the Joker." Everytime, the Joker was faced with "death," (like in World's Finest w/ the exploding Lexwing, and in Mask of the Phantasm when he and Andrea disappeared into the smoke) he always laughed and laughed, and he came back in later episodes... but with RotJ, he wuzn't laughing... he said, "that's not funny...that's not..." then dead. the slogan for the movie wuzn't kidding when it said, "It's No Laughing Matter."

Dude! I thought she was just out for revenge. Ah well, I must've missed that part. It's been so long since I last watched it...

I think that was explained in an issue of the Batman:Animated comic. Someone posted a couple of pages from it here a while back, but I can't find it.

I always thought that the toxins that made the Joker the Joker had a certain effect on his body, making him much stronger, with more stamina, endurance, a higher pain tolerance, and just plain old tough skin, than a normal human.

Not to the level of a Superman or Wonder Woman, obviously :p, but augmentations nonetheless.

Consider "Beware The Creeper": Creeper is drowned in the same bath of toxins that the Joker was drowned in. What happened to our mild-mannered reporter after the toxins took their effect? He was crazy like the Joker was, of course (but a good kind of crazy?), but he was also fairly invulnerable. Harley dropped a statue on him that had to be 5 tons plus, and Creeper just shook it off! He also sucker punched Batman in the pool hall scene, and Batman felt that punch! (And Creeper was barely even trying! He was too busy flirting with Harley Quinn.)

Joker has shown the same level of invulnerability in his many fights against Batman. Of course, his brushes with death would injure him, but then he'd go into hiding until he healed, and likely whip up another batch of toxins or two to ingest until he regained his augmentated status. :D

How's that for an explanation? :) That's the way I've always explained it to myself, anyway!

The Dark Knight

I thought the reason Creeper was so strong was because he breathed in Joker's laughing gas too (if I made that up feel free to tell me). And when Batman hit Joker, the Joker got hurt quite a bit. Anyway, back to fan speculation.
The Laughing Fish:
1. Shark wasn't hungry.
2. Shark was hungry but took one look at the Joker, got scared, and swam away.
3. Aquaman saved him.

It's probably the same way Bugs Bunny or Daffy Duck never die--the Joker is like a living cartoon character.

Note how often we saw Bruce bandaged up after a long night, with a mild concussion or cracked ribs or such. Didn't Joker ever have to wear some cumbersome cast or strips of tape on his body? Maybe get Harley to minister to his injuries while in a little nurse's uniform? ;)

How does Joker survive all the time? The same way that Murdock always did on "MacGyver."

So that's why he always laughs. When Mr. J is about to get killed, he just laughs his head off. Good explination. That explains alot about his immortality. Plus, the toxin theory helps out as well.

Please try to refrain from bumping up old threads - it can get very confusing. If you're looking at old threads and would like to carry on the topic, create a new thread about it. We won't mind, ;).
