Disney's CGI-animated feature film Chicken Little grossed an estimated $40.1 million in its first 3 days of domestic release (http://today.reuters.com/news/newsArticle.aspx?type=domesticNews&storyID=2005-11-06T205705Z_01_SCH663897_RTRUKOC_0_US-LEISURE-BOXOFFICE.xml&archived=False), making it the top film over the weekend. Coverage in the Los Angeles Times (http://www.latimes.com/business/custom/cotown/la-et-boxoffice7nov07,1,3338130.story?coll=la-headlines-business-enter) noted that this take is comparable to DreamWorks' Madagascar and Shark Tale (which grossed $47.6 and $47.2 million, respectively) and is the highest opening weekend gross for any animated Disney film since Lilo & Stitch, but still fell short of the $70.5 million opening gate for Disney/Pixar's The Incredibles.

Market sources note (http://www.marketwatch.com/news/story.asp?guid=%7B9CC04D2F-4D29-474E-98F7-7ADC0DDC1691%7D&siteid=google) that Disney stocks received a boost in response to the news, while both Pixar and Dreamworks showed losses.

UPDATE: The Internet Movie Database Daily Briefing refers to a report by Jim Hill Media comparing Chicken Little's per screen totals (http://www.jimhillmedia.com/article.php?id=1727) to other animated hit movies. The same news report (http://www.imdb.com/news/sb/2005-11-07/film/2) also refers to a story in the Wall Street Journal that Disney's upcoming animated films have been delayed.
