A Question about Steel...

A few years back, when Steel had his own book, towards the end of his series they implied that John may be a Meta-Human and at one point he could "call" his armor from another dimension. On top of that any damage to the armor when sent there was "fixed"

There was also a connection between his "supposed Meta" status and his control of the hammer.

What ever happened to that storyline? It seemed to disappear when he joined JLA.

Here's what I know about it...

The Steel metahuman thing was actually introduced fairly early in the series, around the late teens early twenties issues. I'm pretty sure Louise Simonson (Steel's creator) had left at that point, since the metahuman idea came out of nowhere and was pretty...well...retarded.

Now I'm not sure exactly how it came to happen (because I sure as hell wasn't READING the book), but the whole metahuman angle was dropped by the time Christopher Priest came on the book. Under Priest, Steel wore kind of an Iron Man ripoff suit that transformed from thin chain material to steel. And since the book's cancellation, Steel's metahuman status hasn't been mentioned by anyone since.

Sorry to bump this thread up but I have two questions about Steel.

1. Is Steel #8 a Zero Hour book? I saw it listed somewhere yet the cover doesn't say "Zero Hour" at the top of it like the others do.

2. Is Steel still an ongoing comic book series?
