Decent show tonight, with ONE exception...
"A Song a Day" (Fleischer- Betty Boop- Released 5/22/36)
"The Lone Stranger and Porky" (WB- Released 1/7/39)
"Cops is Always Right" (Fleischer- Popeye- Released 12/29/38)
"One More Time" (WB- Released 10/3/31)
"Porky in Egypt" (WB- Released 11/5/38)
"Hobo Hounds" (2 STUPID DOGS!?!? WHAT THE HELL!?!?)
Now what the hell is 2 Stupid Dogs doing on LNB&W, I'm sorry, but I just don't buy the programmer's decision here.
"A Song a Day" had the UM&M opening titles, but had a "The End" card I have never seen before, anyone know where it was from?
And I'll reask a question that got lost in a previous thread, why dosen't CN show "Lady Play Your Mandolin"? Is there something missing from the print WB has, or is it damaged, or is it too stereotypical?
Thanks,
NickM

The showing of the 2 STUPID DOGS cartoon confused me out, too, even if it was in B&W. Since when does a new-age cartoon show up on LNB&W?
The Betty Boop cartoon's print was just horrible. You can't even see the opening title, it's so damn bright!
PORKY IN EGYPT is just simply hilarious and insane. Clampett was the best one out of all the WB directors in making zany, bizarre, off-the-wall cartoons. For some reason, this cartoon hardly gets any airplay on CN. I wonder if it's because of the heavy Arabian stereotypes. In a way, the Egyptian stereotypes here aren't any different than showing African natives with big lips in a jungle talking in foreign language.
As for why LADY, PLAY YOUR MANDOLIN hardly gets any airtime - I don't know why. I heard that it was because the film copy of the cartoon was very bad and distintegrating, but when the showed some portions of it on the Lost Cartoons Toonheads special, the print looks just fine. The cartoon does deal heavily with drinking which CN might deem too adult, but there would be no problem if you air it on LNB&W. It's late at night, and adults are the only real ones watching.

That was probably the worst LNB&W ever!
I still wish CN had the rights to Flip!

2 STUPID DOGS?!? What the heck are those boneheads at CN doing? God, what a mistake!!
Except for "Porky in Egypt," it was indeed a horrible show!

Guys,
I too am ticked off at the line-up of last night's show. One good thing LNB&W did was it broke a tradition...for the first time ever in the history of the show, a COMTEMPORARY cartoon (2 Stupid Dogs) was shown. I still can't figure out why a color cartoon would end up on LNB&W.
I'll wait for the day CN makes a B&W Powerpuff Girls short called, say, "Him Takes Color Away", or "Colorless Townsville"!
One more thing...as long as Bosko and Buddy continue to be absent from LNB&W, someone has to have the guts to say, "...and still, no Bosko, no Buddy".
The only way LNB&W will be the show it was meant to be is when CN adds Bosko and Buddy.
P.S. 2 Stupid Dogs??? Well, stupid indeed.

Yeah, that cartoon with the stupid dogs, was really STUPID!:p
I still wish Bosko, Buddy or even Flip the Frog would show up.

If LNB&W was that p***poor, now I'm glad I watched The Man Show instead. I did pop over near the end and caught a few minutes of the TSD short, and I thought I'd lost my frigging mind.
I'll wait for the day CN makes a B&W Powerpuff Girls short called, say, "Him Takes Color Away", or "Colorless Townsville"!
You needn't wait, Hip!! In one short, a whacked-out party clown is covered in whitewash from a wrecked tanker and goes on a rampage as an evil revenge-filled mime, robbing Townsville of color and sound. The Girls have to use the power of happy music to restore it to normal. The clown soon sees the error of his ways...but the Girls pummel his butt anyway. :D
What next, the TTA short "Sound Off"?

How about the Animaniacs short "The Girl with the Googily Goop"? :p
Didn't the Warners stilll have red noses in that one?

I find that last night's telecast of LNB&W to be the "WORST" episode I have ever seen, Why in the sam hell would you put a stupid cartoon of "2 Stupid Dogs" even tough it's in B&W, and it was a dumd error on the guy the was running the show.
You would think that after the TH:THE WARTIME CARTOONS special, you would have thought LNB&W would show some pretty good stuff such as:"Spinach For Britian" (which used to be shown on LNB&W) and other related war cartoons. But instead we get another bad film print of a Betty Boop cartoon and a 2 Stupid Dogs cartoon that DIDN'T BELONG in that roster, and what where they thinking of anyway huh? and to top it off, we were ripped off ten minutes for one more cartoon showing because we had to see this @$#% SDS cartoon.
LNB&W is starting to get real bad as of late...CN should show more of the unseen Porky B&W cartoons that haven't been aired yet. and CN SHOULD start showing Bosko and Buddy, is this getting ridiclious here, isn't folks? And they should get the "Flip The Frog" to add a better mixture to the program, I mean come on here..Can we excpect to see the "Animanics B&W cartoon segment with a Betty Boop knock-off on next week's edition?
UUGGHHH!!!

The reason why "LADY, PLAY YOUR MANDOLIN" isn't shown on Cartoon Network is because AOL/TIME WARNER currently doesn't have the print in their vaults. When Ted Turner bought the rights to the pre-48 cartoons LT/MM cartoon library, this film wasn't included in the film library. When this cartoon aired on last year's WB/LOST CARTOON special, you'll notice that this cartoon was in dire need of film restoration.
If you have seen "LADY, PLAY YOUR MANDOLIN" on the special, you can easly see nitrate problems on the film, and by the way..Cartoon Network didn't even know what they had in their cartoon vaults when it came to the Warner Bros. entire cartoon collection. That's why over the next several years, TIME WARNER is restoring their enitre cartoons from 1930 to 1969.
Maybe in the future we'll get to see a newly restored print of "LADY, PLAY YOUR MANDOLIN....

I, too, wish they would've shown a WWII themed LNB&W, in tradition of the "Wartime Toonheads" special. Now that you mention it, yesterday's LNB&W was pretty poor, with only one real good cartoon in the bunch. To add insult to injury, they showed a worthless and unwatchable print of a Betty Boop cartoon, and a 2 Stupid Dogs cartoon (now I like the show 2 Stupid Dogs unlike most of the others here, but you just don't mix in a new cartoon with old classics!)!
They really need to spice the show up a little, by at least showing one rarely shown cartoon, like AFRICA SQUEAKS, or a B&W LT one-shot.
Still no Bosko and Buddy. Why the hell are they keeping us waiting?

Unlike the feeling I'm getting from most of you, I like 2 Stupid Dogs, but even I was kinda annoyed by this. This is a time slot for classic cartoons, and classics belong here. To be honest, I also found the it kind of funny, almost like a joke from programming. Which is why I'm not too mad about it, so long as they don't try anything like this again. I am probably going to spend next week worrying that they'll put in one of the B/W Animaniacs episodes.
I' m sure a lot of us were hoping at least one cartoon would be war themed.

I think that Cartoon Network might feel a little nervous about showing "Bokso"...True to form, he is a little black boy even though he looked like a humanized verison of Mickey Mouse and sounded like him, and the reason for that is, that Leon Schleisinger wanted Bosko to act more like Mickey instead of acting like a real black boy. But there is no reason for CN not to show theses long neglected cartoons. As for the case of Buddy, why CN doesn't show him is anyone's guess...CN cannot claim to be the true leaders of animation if they can't show Bosko, Buddy, and Speedy Gonzales on their channel

Every time I asked someone who works at WB they said they don't let CN show Buddy because he is boring. That's no reason not to show him! I like Buddy, I think his cartoons are funny and exciting not boring.
BTW, I decided to change my avatar again. It's now an avatar of Flip the Frog.

Even if he is boring, that's still not a good reason to ban him. They show those post-64 cartoons all the time. 'Nuff said. So if they really are banning Buddy for his possible dullness, they have no good argument.

I tape this show because of the obvious hour, but this is reason enough for me to NOT WATCH IT! (even with 'Lone Stranger,' a great Porky toon, and 'Cops is Always Right,' a Fleischer I haven't seen since the 70s)

Yeah, there were three cartoons like that. ;)
I wish I weren't too lazy to stay up to watch LNB&W, I love B&W cartoons. I wouldn't worry overmuch about the 2 Stupid Dogs, as someone mentioned before, it sounds like just a programming joke/stunt. I don't think it'll become a regular feature. :)

If it was a programming joke, then is sure was a dumb joke, and I don't see anything funny about it.

When matinee-classics sells videos of Buddy cartoons (which he is trying to do now), he says "these cartoons contain numerous gay and black jokes." Perhaps that is the reason why?

I haven't seen any gay gags in any of the Buddy cartoons I own. However, there were a some in a few Bosko, Flip the Frog, and Betty Boop cartoons. There are at least four Buddy cartoons with African-American stereotypes. These are, "Buddy's Showboat," "Buddy of the Apes," "Buddy's Circus," and "Buddy in Africa." There's also "Buddy the Gob" with Chinese stereotypes.

Well, there's the ferry boat in "Buddy's Show Boat"... that's all I can think of.

Yeah, I forgot about that.
Actually I think, in "Buddy in Africa" a native starts to win a game of horse-shoes, but, then misses. The native he's up againist says (in a mock-gay voice) "Goody, Goody!" Gosh, I guess there were a few gay gags in Buddy cartoons!

The bottom line is this....LNB&W have to show Bosko, Buddy, One Shot B&W LT,more unaired B&W PorkyS, and no more #@$#$$ film prints of Betty Boop.
But you what really needs to be on LNB&W Hummm?????

There is a gay gag in "Buddy the Woodsman (1934, Jack King) where a femme lumberjack skips towards a tiny sapling and chops it down with his axe!!

Hey Nelson!
#1 Flip the Frog fan in the country, eh?
I'm sure Pietro and I will argue with you about that claim! He actually has a Flip the Frog website, and as a teenager I sold copies of my own amateur Flip the Frog comic book (with the permission of John Iwerks, a grandson of Ub Iwerks who then lived in my city).
Oops, I'm in Denmark now, even though I'm an American, so Pietro may be the only Flip the Frog fan left in North America to challenge your claim!
Best,
David Gerstein

Well David... You maybe be right on this one and I love the competition. But David I have much respect for you, and for what you done to help restore forgotten cartoons and to keep the characters names alive with the modern day viewers who have never heard of Flip.
Also, I've been a "Flip The Frog" fan for over twenty five years now, and I think it's finally great, that UB IWERKS is starting to get the attention he (and his work in cartoons) so rightfully deserves, thanks to his grandaughter, who has done an excellent job.Hopefully this will lead to better things for "Flip The Frog" and "Willie Whopper" and for a new generation of cartoon fans, who have never seen any of these negelected cartoons from year's past.
David you are the man, and tip my hat off to you!!!!:)
