I'm watching THE BLITZ WOLF now on CN, and when the Pigs go inside the brick house, there's a sign on the door saying "No (???) allowed", but something's blanked out on the sign? Does anybody know what was blanked out? Was it the word 'Japs'? Is this the work of CN? Not that I'm complaining, I'm very excited to even see this cartoon, but I just want to know if that is an edit.

Maybe that's the edit that Jerry Beck was talking about.

Two edits actually, The sign did say Japs, and the Long Darn Thing shot a missle at the island of Japan, sinking the whole island!

In SCRAP HAPPY DAFFY, when Hitler is speaking in German, in one part, there's a subtitle on the bottom of the screen, but you can't see it. The shot looked like it had been purposely enlarged. What did the German subtitles say that couldn't be shown (I'm guessing it had 'Japs' in it, again)?

The print of the cartoon is pretty fuzzy as some people here feared, but again, just be happy that CN's showing it.

I'm pleased as punch myself there, Meiserstruffen! I too noticed that edit with "Japs" in The Blitz Wolf, which is why I'm writing this. I saw that someone caught the edit before I did. Oh well. I must say that The Blitz Wolf was my favorite one. I love the part with Adolf Wolf saying I'll huff and puff and blow your house in" in fake German. I laugh at it ever time I hear it. Here's the funny part about myself: That was my first time seeing that cartoon, but when I do my fake German accent, I sound exactly like the wolf! Maybe my mom said some things to me when I was very young and it's been sitting in my brain forever. I dunno. Is anyone here a believer in the supernatural? I am, somewhat. I believe in the astroplane and reincarnation and things of that nature. Back on the subject, the special was great! I was able to see some cartoons that I'd never seen before. ONE QUESTION: Were those edits made because of he PEARL HARBOR movie? I say that because Japan's actions were what pulled us into the war, which makes the Japanese just as significant as Hitler. Stating that, how can such a significant aspect be edited out of a documentary? PLEASE NOTE THAT I AM NOT IN ANY WAY COMPLAINING ABOUT THE TOONHEADS SPECIAL. I'm grateful for it and even more grateful that I was able to tape this special. ha ha. Bye, guys! Oppenheiffer stoffun nacht! (See you later!)

the lines were:

$%#$#^$%#@

NON-ARYAN DUCK

the subtitles were the victim of the film-to-tape process, not censorship

Danm, you were pleased, weren't you? (I know, the board was going real slow tonight, and the message posted notice didn't show up very fast).

The "No Japs Allowed" edit didn't surprise me, but edting out the "Doolittle Dood It" gag did -- c'mon, we were figthing them in 1942, and if you can't at least blow up the island without any gross racial characterizations shown...

Other than that, my biggest surprise was how bad the print of "Scrap Happy Daffy" was -- just about a step above a public domain tape. Did Warner's let the original nitrate print decay too much, or was Burbank too lazy to send a decent print to the production house (at least Jerry Beck or someone put in enough effort to reattach the original opening and closing titles, which were obviously off a much better negative).
