Now that Justice League Adventures has delivered five issues, I was wondering what people generally thought about the series' success/future. I don't think anything could ever compare with the Original Batman Adventures, so nothing can every really surpass those comics in my mind.

Generally, I've enjoyed seeing the JL in comics once again and think there are still many great stories left to be told. However, I do think that the series can/will easily fall into a formula pattern and the stories in the second or third year may have to take a bit of a turn in order to keep the series interesting. A few two-parters are definately needed. Artistically, I feel Delaney best handled the characters, but that's not to put down any of the other artists, because most of the pages have been great. Overall, I think this series will have a tougher time breaking free of the "kiddie/Adventures" stereotype, much tougher than Gotham Adventures. At least there, the characters, interactions and locations all have a mood. In Justice League, the mood seems to be much more "out there". Danger and Strangeness seem to go hand in hand.

Focusing more on specific members of the League (like the show often does) could be a way to go, but then it could veer away from the "League" idea.

So, to wrap up, I would like to see a few relationships build up over time, (perhaps a small Flash/Hawkgirl romance or a deeper Jo'nn/Superman friendship) as well as stories that don't make action a priority. The League can be shown taking care of smaller buisness too. I expect the series to reach 30 issues or so, and would like to see it keep going if it's good, but I think it will eventually fall into the "Adventures" trap.

Please don't think me pessimistic or negative - this is just what I see happening...Do you agree?

Well, I just read the solicitations on Justice League Adventures #8, and it sounds like another crowded, action packed issue. Any thoughts/concerns/hopes...anyone ???

Personally, I'm optomistic about this. Just becuase we may get a lousy issue or two doesn't mean that's all we'll get (Gotham Adventures excluded). You have to remember that this series has a rotating art team, so the stories and art will never be consistent or exactly the same - it's impossible. It's better to take an optomistic view on situation slike this. Always having a negative outlook will seriously hamper any enjoyment of the series. Enjoy it as much as you can - that's all you can really do. Don't know future issues and creators until you've read their work - it's unfair. It's not fair (and a bit rude) to the creators who put their blood and sweat into these issues. Just look at things in a positive way.

The fact that we have rotating creative teams is really what bothers me about that, doesn't it you, Jim? Yes, this prevents a terrible writer from having the reins of the book for too long, but it also prevents personal attachments on the part of good writers. Writers are pretty much restricted from having ongoing plot threads, developing stories very well, etc. I personally would very much like the creative teams to find a pairing that works and go with it until they're out of steam. There's no reason to turn these animated spin off books into "Creator's Showcase."
