"Don't Axe Me" (1958):
A very good and Funny cartoon. McKimson always seemed to prefer the screwy Daffy over the selfish, money-crazed Daffy.
Rating: ****

"Patient Porky" (1940):
It's not that great. There are some good gags, but not real funny ones. It seems as though Clampett is trying to remake "The Daffy Doc."
Rating: **

"An Egg Scramble" (1950):
Very good. I believe that this cartoon marks the first appearance of Miss Prissy. She kinda has a different voice than the one heard in McKimson's Foghorn Leghorn cartoons.
Rating: ****

"Fresh Hare" (1942):
Bugs outwits Elmer the Canadian Mountie. A great early Bugs Bunny short directed by Friz Freleng. Too bad CN edited the ending gag.
Rating: ****

"Zipping Along" (1953):
Another excellent Road Runner cartoon - 'nuff said.
Rating: *****

"Hillbilly Hare" (1950):
A very funny cartoon, especially Bugs' "Square Dancing" song.
Rating: ****

DON'T AXE ME
A pretty good cartoon, and one of the rare uses of the "Daffy" Daffy from this time period. That's the reason I like McKimson. Was that lady Elmer Fudd's mother or wife? I'd say his mother, because it would just be a strange coincidence his wife would look and sounds just like him, and she looked older than him.
4/5

PATIENT PORKY
This does have it's similarities to THE DAFFY DOC, but I still think it's very funny. The visual of the cake inside of Porky's stomach was funny. The ending was great.
4.5/5

FRESH HARE
Another very good Bugs vs. Elmer cartoon, and one of the rare uses of the fat Fudd, though not as fat as he was in the Clampett cartoons. I never understood the ending before I found out something was edited. But I didn't know what "Dixie" was at the time, anyway.
5/5

HILLBILLY HARE
An absolute classic. It's a simple fact: Rednecks are funny. Pair them up with Bugs, and you have gold. The Square-dance routine is sheer hilarity.
5/5

The other two cartoons I didn't review are ones I haven't seen in a while and don't have on tape. But from what I remember, EGG SCRAMBLE was very funny, and ZIPPING ALONG was the usual classic RR&C. So this was a perfect show of Bugs and Daffy in my opinion.

Yeah, most of the time, except in "Ducking the Devil" and in "People are Bunny."

I'm glad they did. Showing Bugs and Elmer singing in blackface would be offensive to African-Americans. As I mentioned before, we should all be treated equally.

Also, I agree with the comments on "Hillbilly Hare." I loved that one!

While I agree that we all should be treated equally, cartoon fans and purists deserve to be able to see unedited prints of these cartoons. Without people like us, it's doubtful in my mind that CN would've lasted.

I personally, have no interest in seeing butchered, dilluted versions of cartoons, regardless of how potentially offensive the material is. All of the men who worked on these cartoons deserve better.

I remember getting to see this cartoon unedited when I was little, it was one of my favorite endings. It never hit me that they were supposed to be in blackface for some reason, though.

Too bad China Jones hasn't been on TV for such a long time for political correctness reasons, I was just watching it again yesterday... another good late McKimson cartoon, and such a good looking cartoon.

Well, I have "Fresh Hare" on video and it's unedited. The tape is from the "Classic Video Library" and the title of it is simply "Bugs Bunny: Volume 1." In case you want to find a copy of it, I thought I'd let you know. It might be a little hard to find though. I got the tape at a yard sale. Lol.

I THINK, re: FRESH HARE, that the person saying it would be OFFESNIVE was being sarcastic.. :)

ANyways, though I haven't seen the mentioned sahorts when they aired I'll jkust add some comments.

DON"T AXE ME
Though Daffy shows some frustration this is still one of his "daffy" episodes. That's Elmer wife, maybe he just likes older women. The dinner guest had the Mel Blanc/Marvin martian voice. Elmer of course was voicdd by radio actor Arthur Q.Bryan, and June Foray did the voice of Mrs.Fudd.The slave gags were there, borrowed from Freleng's 1949 "Wise Quackers".MM.Blue rings.

PATIENT PORKY
Dr.radio show spoofs: Dr.Kildare and Dr.Christian (an owl!). Some gags reprised from an earlier Bob Clampett Porky,
The Daffy Doc" (1938). A Bugs prototype comes in to add a correction to the birth rate (on chalkboard) at cartoon's beginning, to the tune of "Pretty Baby" (1916), And, it's adapted from that famous book, "The Pains Came".

FRESH HARE
Too bad the ending's edited. ENough said.

AN EGG SCRAMBLE
Prissy's first apperarance (1950), and with Mel Blanc as Prissy (while Benederet does the OTHER females!) BTW There is a mixture of hens playing hen roles (Prissy and company), animals playing people roles and people playing people roles!!

ZIPPING ALONG
One of severlw Chuck Jones shorts to have Milt Franklyn as Orchestrations and Carl Staling as Composer.Great ending.

HILLBILLY HARE
This great cartoon costarring John Smith as the voice of the dumber hillbilly opopsite Mel.

Wait a minute. The heck I wasn't being sarcastic! It's wrong to ridicule people just because they're of different race or skin color. Cartoon Network was doing the right thing by editing out the ending. Actually, I wish it was edited in the video too.

You mean the original version shouldn't be made available to collectors?

Some videos already edit the ending, BTW.

It so happens that I'm African-American, but I get a kick out of the ending of Fresh Hare. I consider myself lucky to have it uncut on a public domain tape many years ago. I am also lucky to have 8 of the "Censored 11" cartoons. I think "Coal Black" is one of the absolute best and funniest cartoons ever produced.

A favorite scene for me (as well as my sisters) is the now edited-out "drum scene" from Tex Avery's "Aviation Vacation". My sisters and I also feel Mammy Two-Shoes just isn't the same with her newly-dubbed voice.

So, African-Americans (some, but not all) can look at these cartoons in the proper context, and not be offended. Many of these scenes are just bizarre and fun to look at!

I know that it's offensive to some people, but you have to remember the time period these cartoons were made, and, you must also remember that the collectors want to see these films uncut, in their original format.

It's probably best you don't mention that "Fresh Hare" should be edited on video, because sometimes program exces and big shots from Cartoon Network and the WB tend to stop by here. Once, somebody said that the indian gag in "Boobs in the Woods" wasn't edited out, and a week later, it was edited! Just like that! So, be careful about what ya say around here.

Thanks for understanding. I'm glad you're not offended by that, Popeye. I guess I feel obligated to stick up for African Americans, because there's this girl I kind of like who's black. So, I'm sorry to be hard on you people. I just wanted to state how I felt.

No worries. I probably shouldn't have been as harsh as I was, though I still fully stand by my beliefs, I understand yours as well.

I agree with you regarding treating people equally, but when it comes to censorship, I could only wish a 5-second warning came out on cartoons with un-PC gags that says "this cartoon contains scenes that may be considered questionable by some of our audience...please use your best judgment as you watch while we maintain the historical context of this cartoon."

I believe the parents should be the ones to teach the kids what is right and wrong, not the networks. Any network who could possibly be brave enough to use this suggestion would be ferociously applauded, plus would make the majority of people very happy. Then again, the networks are about common "cents"...not common sense.

I mean, I do live in America...or at least that's as of when I last checked.

In my "perfect little world", classic cartoons would be edited if necessary on TV, but they'd also be available unedited on home video. Hey, right now we have things like the Simpsons' entire 1st season on DVD - in my world they'd collect classic cartoons that way as well. :D And yes, there'd be "edited" videos for Wal-Mart, too...

People who watch MTV are lucky. They already have this system. Wanna hear that new DMX hit unedited? Look no further than your local music store, my boy.... Anime fans have this system, too. Anime isn't that mainstream in America yet, so most series are still released entirely on video. So, angered by how they censored that "Tenchi" episode? "No need" (sorry^^;)) for an ulcer, you bought the unedited version three years ago.

Me, I hate it when I find out a scene has been "sanitized" in a home video, even if it's something I might find offensive. After all, home videos aren't broadcast into everyones homes. You have to actually go to the store and buy the things! If I wanted to see "I Taw a Puddy Tat" without the blackface gag I'd just watch it on TV  .
