Logo" align="left" hspace="5" vspace="3" width="103" height="150"> NEW YORK, NY (March 13, 2002) — Kids' WB!, the #1 broadcast network for kids, will add five new animated series to its top-rated Saturday morning and weekday slates and introduce a “year-round” schedule that will offer fresh new programming, beginning this Summer and leading into the 2002-2003 television season. The schedule was announced today by Donna Friedman, Executive Vice President, Kids' WB!, speaking to advertisers and media at the first joint Kids’ WB! and Cartoon Network annual upfront sales presentations in New York.

“As the dominant broadcaster in kids’ television for the past three seasons, Kids’ WB! has clearly connected with kids in a powerful way,” said Ms. Friedman. “While most of the other networks are getting out of the kids’ business, we are committed to continuing to deliver what kids have come to want and expect from Kids’ WB! – the highest quality hit shows — six days a week.”

Hot off its 8th consecutive sweeps victory as the #1 Saturday morning broadcast network, Kids' WB! has maintained its leadership position this season by delivering quality programs to its core target demographic of Kids 6-11. The network has strengthened and solidified its creative position and dominance in the industry with the network’s branded key elements: high-adventure, humor and heart; compelling storylines; and kid-relatable characters.

In 4th Quarter 2001, Kids’ WB! dominated as the #1 broadcast and cable network in the key demographic of Boys 6-11 and finished #1 among the broadcast competition in Kids 2-11, Kids 6-11 and Boys 2-11 for the third consecutive year. For the quarter, Pokémon: Johto League Champions captured the #1 Saturday morning program spot among all competition, including cable, in Boys 2-11 and Boys 6-11. The network led the broadcast and cable competition with six of the top 10 programs in Boys 6-11 and six of the top 10 broadcast programs in Kids 2-11, including Pokémon: Johto League Champions, X-Men: Evolution, Jackie Chan Adventures, The Mummy, The Nightmare Room and Yu-Gi-Oh!

Season-to-date, Kids' WB! captures all broadcast and cable competition in Boys 6-11 with the top three programs and leads as the #1 broadcast network among Kids 2-11, Kids 6-11 and Boys 2-11. Pokémon: Johto League Champions ranks as the #1 program among all Saturday morning competition, including cable, in Boys 6-11 and Boys 2-11 (tied with Nickelodeon) and ranks as the #1 broadcast program among Kids 2-11 and Kids 6-11. Among Kids 2-11, Kids' WB! takes seven out of the top 10 programs among the broadcast competition, including X-Men: Evolution (#2), Jackie Chan Adventures (#3), The Mummy (#4), The Nightmare Room (#5), Static Shock (#7) and Yu-Gi-Oh! (#10). The network also dominates in the key demographics of Kids 6-11, Boys 2-11 and Boys 6-11 with seven of the top 10 broadcast programs.

As the #1 choice for kids, Kids’ WB! continues to reinvent itself and will build upon its powerful 14-hour Monday-Saturday slate by rolling out an “all-new all-year” 12-month schedule. The aggressive campaign will include more than 150 original half-hours with more to be picked up later this year.

In Fall 2002, Kids’ WB!’s Saturday morning schedule welcomes the world’s most famous cowardly canine and his mystery-solving gang with the original What’s New Scooby-Doo? animated series and the comedy caper Ozzy & Drix, featuring the hilarious bod squad duo who give kids – literally – a microscopic view inside adolescence. The new Saturday line-up also will be highlighted by 52 episodes of the next evolution of the top-rated franchise, Pokémon: Master Quest, and more adventures of the returning hits: Jackie Chan Adventures; X-Men: Evolution and The Mummy: Secrets of the Medjai.

In addition to these recently-announced new season pick-ups, the network has ordered 13 episodes of the stunning 3D-CGI animated series Cubix. The second season of Cubix will introduce new robots and adventures as Connor, Cubix and the gang team up to be the best Botties in Bubble Town – and to take on a new mission: to stop the evil Dr. K from overthrowing the city with his nefarious plans…and most powerful creation. The series is a futuristic story of action, adventure and uncommon friendship.

Building on its #1 weekday line-up, Kids’ WB!’s Monday-Friday slate will be highlighted by the high-adventure hit series X-Men: Evolution as the teen mutants struggle to understand their place in the world. The line-up also will include more action-comedy and adventure with Jackie Chan Adventures, Pokémon, Rescue Heroes: Global Response Team and the classic Scooby-Doo series.

The new Fall series joining the 2002-2003 schedule include:

WHAT’S NEW SCOOBY-DOO? will bring the meddling kids to the 21st Century as everyone’s favorite Great Dane and his intrepid cohorts – Shaggy, Velma, Daphne and Fred – continue to stumble upon creature-related comedy mysteries. The series will stay true to the classic elements that have made Scooby one of the most beloved shows for more than 30 years, while amping up the suspense, comedy and quality of animation. This comedy from Warner Bros. Animation will feature the timeless and loveable Scooby gang in 13 adventures set in a contemporary world. Kids’ WB! is proud to announce the return of original cast members Casey Kasem and Frank Welker as their alter egos, Shaggy and Fred.

OZZY & DRIX,based on the breakout characters from the feature film “Osmosis Jones,” is an animated inner-body buddy-cop comedy which follows the adventures of white blood cell cop Ozzy and his partner, over-the-counter cold pill Drix, as they defend the City of Hector – the body of a 13-year-old boy. In 13 grossly-funny episodes, Ozzy and Drix will investigate and combat – from the inside – the adolescent viruses of zits, body odor, allergies…and the melodrama that unfolds when a simple soar throat causes a “phlegm”-alanche in the City of Hector.

In the network’s most powerful Summer slate to-date, Kids’ WB! will sizzle with the original Latin-flavored irreverent comedy ¡Mucha Lucha!, which follows three determined kids as they wrestle through their bizarre world – where Mexican masked wrestling is a way of life. The network’s Saturday morning and weekday schedules will “feel the girl-power” when the Emmy Award-winning feisty Powerpuff Girls make their broadcast television debut with all-new episodes and more high-adventure comedy – six days a week – on Kids’ WB! Also joining the line-up is the groundbreaking stop-motion animated series Phantom Investigators, featuring the coolest kid private investigators of paranormal phenomena in town. In addition, the Summer schedule will include second season adventures of the returning favorites Static Shock and The Zeta Project.

Kids’ WB! also announced today the popular animé series Yu-Gi-Oh! will go to strip, airing six days a week Monday-Saturday, beginning April 1, 2002. The program, based on the Japanese hit comic book series, will continue to bring to life awesome monsters, fantastical settings and ancient Egyptian legends…the game is on!

The new series to debut in the Summer 2002 schedule is:

¡MUCHA LUCHA! is an over-the-top comedy-adventure about honor, family, tradition…and donuts. The series explores the Latino cultural phenomenon known as “Lucha Libre.” In a world where no one removes their colorful mask ever and success depends on having a “signature move,” three mascaritas — Rikochet, Buena Girl and The Flea — study and live the “Code of Masked Wrestling.” This bold comedy combines irreverent humor and visually dynamic fantasy-action in two fast-paced 11-minute episodes and is the first-ever all-flash animated series on broadcast television.

Aww crap, TMNT isn't listed in that schedule. Unless it's a mid season replacement and they don't mention those :)..

Well, again, it's still in focus-testing. Who knows if it will go to series? The earliest it will go to series is 2003.

Gads, I hope not! That would be almost as bad as making a 'Lord of the Rings' cartoon.

The only new item of interest to me would be "Scooby Doo"...

Pros:
- Only one episode of "Pokemon" per day, incl. Saturday...

- Outside of Pokemon, no more 4Kids-anime shows (though there's still "Cubix"... and the mid-season return of Yu-Gi-Oh as reruns)...

- Scooby Doo as a new Sat. morning series...

- the Powerpuff Girls airing on broadcast TV this summer. Giving me something to watch, I suppose (that, and not having to shell out for cable ;-)

Cons:
- Scooby's on at 8:30 AM (with a probably-lackluster-ratings-wise lead-in show), vs., say, on after "Pokemon" or "Jackie Chan"... probably not the strongest of timeslots...

- Probable seasonal "sacrificial lamb" to the cancellation axe will be that Mucha Lucha show....no doubt to be replaced by a *second* Poke-airing....

Other remarks:
- Wondering what the general theme/tone of the promos will be like for this fall's lineup, with "Pokemon" apparently no longer the huge ratings-grabber it was a few years ago...

- Still no real pure "humor"-based shows (unless "Scooby" counts...)

- Ratings-wise, I presume KWB will continue their dominance for Sat. mornings, esp. given the competition: FOX - all 4Kids-stuff (ack); NBC - all Discovery Channel programs (shrug); CBS - presumably more Nick Jr. stuff (eh); ABC - probably most of the same Disney stuff they have now (though their biggest show, "Recess", must be showing signs of aging by now...plus, their lineup's subject to being pre-empted late in the morning for sports. Also wonder how "Teamo Lame-o---er, Supremo" is doing ratings-wise...). UPN, of course, doensn't air on Sat. mornings (but does have that Sunday-morning "Disney One-Too" block; wonder what this fall's UPN programming block will look like---my guess: Weekdays: "Sabrina"'s gone, with something new in its place; Weekends: Either unchanged, or the "Weekenders" (a show not tied into a Disney movie/not being the ratings-workhorse "Recess") gets the boot (despite not being as aged a show as "Recess")...

Hm, not much changes, but it could be changes for the better. I have high hopes for Scooby... Kid's WB has invested a lot of money on this show, and the direct-to-video bits lately have been darn good. But the phrase "The series will stay true to the classic elements that have made Scooby one of the most beloved shows for more than 30 years" makes me fret that we'll see the non-triumphant return of cretins in costumes.

Ozzie and Drix could be a lot of fun... the animated bits of Osmosis Jones were darn good, and we won't have to worry about crap live-action bits this time. We'll see.

New Powerpuff Girls... well, while I'm glad for new episodes, I'm sure this will royally tick off Cartoon Network fans. Me, I'm getting sick of this whole cross-promotion schtick.

Actually, they've aged up this fall and will be airing Nickelodeon series, in addition to two Nick Jr. series and the Early Show. For more, check out the news page. I guess UPN won't launch a Saturday block because it presumably would've aired some Nickelodeon series if it did. Then again, I don't know.

ABC could be in for some rapid changes. That's a big could, but if "Digimon" is going to join the block, you better believe that a lot of changes will occur starting this fall. The new 4Kids block will be announced soon and it will be a marketing vehicle basically for toys, video games, etc. based on the television series. One big commercial. Oh joy.

I was hoping UPN would launch a Saturday block. The "Buffy: The Animated Series" sounded interesting and since 4Kids won't pick it up, then UPN would make a great home. They already air "Buffy," why not air the animated series as well?

This fall is supposed to be the year of rapid change among all networks, Saturday morning-wise. I don't understand why CBS continues to air the "Early Show" on Saturdays though. It's not like the show is pulling in high ratings or anything. It's just put into the middle of a children's block. How do they expect children to stick around later for the rest of the block? The answer, certainly would be that they won't stick around. Then again, they'd probably flip to Nickelodeon and would continue the synergy going....

Questions:

1. Why did PPGs move to Kid's WB?

2. Where TMNT?

3.Since when isnt Pokemon a big ratings getter?

4.Will Yu-Gi-Oh go to Fox?

Prediction:

¡MUCHA LUCHA! will suck..

It isn't moving strictly to Kids' WB! It will be airing on the network to promote the new movie, which premieres in theaters July 3, 2002. This is definitely a good thing because it ensures that people who have never seen the series may get hooked on it and see the movie. It will remain on Cartoon Network as well.

2. Where TMNT?

As I mentioned earlier, the series is targeted at premiering in 2003. The series is still in focus-testing, I presume and has a long way to go before it hits the airwaves.

3.Since when isnt Pokemon a big ratings getter?

It still gets big ratings, just not as big as it did when it initally premiered. Its ratings have cooled off significantly, but they are still better than most shows airing on Saturday mornings.

4.Will Yu-Gi-Oh go to Fox?

If Kids' WB! hasn't picked it up for next season, to air mid-season or what have you, then yes, it will most likely go to FOX. However, I doubt "Yu-Gi-Oh!" is leaving the network. Maybe it will premiere mid-season as the network is doing that "all-new, all year" thing for next season. For example, say after "Cubix" airs all thirteen of its second season episodes, then Kids' WB! might replace "Yu-Gi-Oh!" with it.

¡MUCHA LUCHA! will suck..

You're entitled to your own opinion, but I'm going to wait until I actually see the series before passing judgement.

Well, its more of making sure they don't have too many repeats on the block and obviously getting rid of some shows that don't work as well, too. I mean, by ordering thirteen episodes of many of the series and start them in August/September, you end up having many repeats, which is what usually happens with Kids' WB! They have no new anime series (which often have bigger episode orders) besides the "Pokemon" one, so they're relying on several different series.

4Kids will be airing their series without any repeats - ever. Each series will likely get a 52 episode order. Kids' WB! is countering that in effect, but they're also thinking long term. They can't rely on a strong show to guide them the whole season if old episodes get repeated constantly. It's a good network strategy.

Okay, here's the changes I would make to the lineup.

1. Ditch the Jackie Chan Adventures and replace them with all new Pinky and the Brain episodes. (Sans Elmyra.)

2. Ditch the Pokemon episodes and replace them with all new Animaniacs episodes

3. Ditch the X-Men and replace them with Histeria episodes.

But hey, it's not gonna happen. But I can dream, can't I?

Yeah, but in a while, it's going to die out. Hate to sound negative, but what with the new fads coming out and everything, I'd be looking for some new stuff to back up the success. There's no guarantee that by the end of this season, kids will be saying "Pika-who?"

The 2002-2003 line-up looks interesting. It's nice to see new episodes of Scooby-Doo (with Casey Kasem as Shaggy, yea!!!), even though new episodes are about two, three years overdue. The new Osmosis Jones series may be a sleeper. Other than those two series, it looks like I will be watching the same shows next season (X-Men and Jackie Chan).

What will be interesting will be the 2003-2004 line-up, since in a sign that history is repeating itself, the 4 Kids Entertainment shows (Pokemon, Yu-Gi-Oh, and Cubix) will start popping up at Fox. Kids WB built up its line-up in part by the Pokemon franchise, much in a similiar way as Fox Kids built up its line-up with Warner Brothers shows. We all know how that ended up. It is the programming choices of next season that may well determine the long-term future of Kids WB. Already, with the "full year initiative" and the addition of Scooby-Doo, they are already thinking about the future of Kids WB.

While some may feel that doing cross-promotion with the Cartoon Network is a bad idea, it may be the best thing for Kids WB in the long run. One of Fox Kids' biggest mistakes of recent years was not taking advantage of Fox Family in order to please the Pat Robinson purists. Thus, other than some weak and poorly promoted showings of Digimon, there was no synergy of the two networks. ABC and Disney started cross-pollinating their shows and they became a contender. Why is it that only now with Disney running ABC Family that they are showing reruns of X-Men, Spider-Man, and Power Rangers. That was something they should have done from the beginning. And as much as I hate to say this, the Olson twins should have had a show on Fox Kids (it's good business).

As for Kids WB and Cartoon Network, the Scooby-Doo and Powerpuff Girls experiments should be interesting. Both networks have original series, it wouldn't be a bad idea if a show from one network spins off into a show on the other where it may be more appropriate. For instance, Justice League could spinoff a Young Justice series for Kids WB or Jackie Chan Adventures could spinoff a series about Uncle's magic training for Cartoon Network. This type of cross-pollination could keep things interesting for the next few years.

Honestly if this happened I don't think there would really be any reason for me to watch KWB anymore. Granted Pinky and the Brain was funny but I don't think it compares to Jackie Chan - a show that has humor and action. As for Pokemon - I could go either way - it's good filler stuff, but new animaniacs would kick!

Loosing X-men tho - nope, I enjoy the Evolution stuff and think it's pretty entertaining. The only other shows that I watch on WB are Static and Zeta so....overall if WB took your plan they would pretty much lose a viewer.

I'm not a big KWB viewer. I can't wait to see the new Scooby series. Thankfully it's on Sunday and not on weekday morings. (That's how it is where I live. Insead of Saterday it's Sunday and instead of afternoons it's morings. )

This maybe one of my nutty notions, but maybe for the Scooby seires they will mix-up the real life ghosts with the ones in costeums. Maybe that will add someting to it. Call me crazy but that's just my opioin.

I wouldn't mind haveing the Animainacs back by the way. I miss that show.

Suggestsions to WB:

1. GET YOURSELVES RUNNING IN ACHORAGE WHY DONT'CHA??? GCI RUNS ANYTHING , WB would not onyl fit in, but probably surge ratings-wise.

2. Sicne you can't really DROP anything without killign the lineup, try throwing on single Animaniacs/Pinky And the Brain/Freakazoid Shorts as a "Bonus" each weekend. If it becomes popular and something else is fading, place the shorts (in the traditional set of 3 shorts per ep) back into the lineup, one Animaniacs, One Pinky and The Brain, and One Freakazoid.

3. While your'e at it, why not just either expand Kids' WB or make it it's own seperate Network? It'd give you MUCH MUCH more time to run sports stuff and late-night comedy shows on the main WB Station, and would allow you to run a HUGE HUGE number of animated shows. Dedicate the Morning and Right-After-School hours to current kids' shows liek Pokemon and Jackie Chan Adventures, towards the evening run more comedic fare liek Animaniacs and Earthworm Jim, and lat at night... Think of something or just take a feed form regular WB. :D

Hmm...my responses:
#1: For some areas, the WB's availability seems to be rather weak coverage-wise (one reason being that they'd have to find an available channel spot that isn't with a present network/that'd want to become alligned with the WB), esp. in smaller cities. I know that in some places (such as in South Bend, Indiana, a city apparently similar size-wise to Anchorage...at least, IIRC that's what a friend of mine who's *from* Anchorage who moved there tells me), the WB serves that area by use of low-powered TV stations set up to serve just the immediate city/outlying area. Other places, the WB's shows are sometimes carried by a second station (as was the case in another town where I lived, where the local CBS affiliate carried some UPN shows at late night). Finally, there's the rare aspect of a WB affiliate pawning off its KWB shows to another station (as is the case in Chicago, where WGN pawns off its KWB stuff to a local independent station there). Where am I going with this? Um...I presume that *eventually*, Anchorage will get its own WB affiliate through some means or other, if (after looking over Anchorage TV listings online) there's a UPN affiliate there...

#2: In the WB execs minds, they already did that: the program known as the Cat and Bunny Warneroonie Super Looney Big Cartoonie Show (a slice-and-diced mixture of various shorts from A!, PatB, LT's, and TTA, along with the PEatB series)...

#3: Also in the execs' minds, that's what Cartoon Network is for (round-the-clock 'toons)...and they also have Boomerang as a *second* round-the-clock cartoon channel. Why would they have a third 24-hour one competing against these two?

I'm very happy to hear that my favorite KidsWB shows are coming back, regardless of the return of Poke-crap. Also glad to hear Scooby and his friends are coming back in a new show. I just hope Men in Black comes back for mid-season. Finally, I see the new episodes of PPG will be shown on KidsWB as well as CN after the movie is released. Now I'll have something to watch this summer when everything is in reruns. It looks like a great line-up.
I'll be waiting for it!

I wonder what channel the NEW MIB animated series will be on--- and I do KNOW that they're making it. If it's on a channel we dont get, I'll just die because we finally got WB!!!!

So do I. I like Agent Elle too, although my favorites are Frank the bulldog alien, the Worms, and Jeebs. Can't wait to see them all again after the movie sequel.

Frank the pug rules! He such a cutie!

Jeebs will be making it back for MIB 2--- and he's not such a slimy looking pawnshop owner this time around.

A cool thing is that I found out that Tony Shalhoub actually went to the University Of Southern Maine (Gorham, ME) and studied for some time. I'm currently attending that college and when I found out I was like "WOOOAAAHH!!" LOL

I never really minded X that much. He appeared in only a few episodes (I think even Zeeltor got more), so he wasn't overused...and he was never intended to be likable. I just hope the writers don't do a one-eighty on us and try to soften X by having L learn he's got a wife and seven kids back home on Geedang or something. Besides, he's good for L. She needs the adversity to keep her mind strong.
Frank was always great, but he had a tendency to eat things he shouldn't. Maybe the writers overdid that joke a bit. As I've wondered before, with all the alien hardware he carries, why didn't K think to keep a bottle of ipecac (the stuff that makes babies spit up) around? I can see J asking that, or perhaps suggesting something even more low-tech--a spoonful of cooking grease in Frank's mouth. "Always worked on my aunt's poodle when he got a tummyache." "Get this straight, junior--I'm not a dog!"

I love those jokes. My dogs will eat anything and whenever I see Frank pull that move, it cracks me up.

I can't stand Agent X, ugh! lol. I doubt even one of his own kind would wanna be his wife LOL. It would be one of those talk show things--- angry husbands and wives fight it out on tv--- LMAO.

I hope to see more inventions from Zeeltor. He ought to wire X's ears for AM FM radio (lord knows theyre as big as portable satellite dishs!)

Ok so we're getting three new shows but here's the big question - any idea if Zeta Project and Static Shock will be picked up again? I enjoy both of these shows and Static has been pulling in #1 ratings for most of the year. While it may be to late for Zeta (even though the new season is shaping up to be a great one) I really hope they renew Static Shock. This has been the one toon that I've made sure I watch virtually every Saturday morning and I think Virgil has still got a lot of adventuring left to do before he retires to the great cartoon haven in the sky.

If they do get cancelled though would CN be interested in renewing these series' or even airing them in their entirety?

I bet we'll see Static come back. I like that show, too, and it would be a shame to see it go. Plus Zeta has pulled in huge ratings according to TZ News so I bet that show will be back. I bet they'll return in the midseason, like they did this year.

I'm hoping that's what happens because they are both amazing shows and have given us a lot of great stories - esp this season.
